World Gaming & Cineplex’s Northern Fights National Finals take place in Toronto on Saturday, June 24th

The Northern Fights champions will be decided tomorrow in Toronto!

The competitors that proved victorious in their respective regional qualifiers will face off in Toronto tomorrow to determine the Northern Fights champions for Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat XL. Hosted by World Gaming and Cineplex, if you’re in the Toronto area tomorrow you can head over to Scotiabank Theatre to watch the finals play out live. Admission is $9.50, or $40.00 for a full “fan experience” package that includes bonuses and swag. You can buy tickets here.

Players, wrestlers, and even the game’s developers face off in the Tekken Royal Rumble at CEO 2017

One of the unique events at CEO 2017 this year was the Tekken Royal Rumble. In this “king of the hill” style match, players would come on stage to compete in Tekken 7 with the winner of the match remaining on stage to face the next player in line, until only one player remained.

The most interesting thing about the match, however, was the roster. Aside from players such as Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo and the memetic ShinBlade, it also featured other personages such as CEO head organizer Alex Jebailey (who started the match with Echo Fox’s Cool Gray AJ), pro-wrestlers Xavier Woods from the WWE and Kenny Omega from NJPW, and even the game’s own producer, Katsuhiro Harada.

The resulting matches are both exciting and entertaining, with moments such as Alex Jebailey coming out to “you suck” chants (even though he won his first fight), Xavier Woods competing in a King-style Jaguar mask, and more.

The Art of Fighting 2 now available for Xbox One; The Last Blade available for PlayStation 4

NEO GEO fighting game The Art of Fighting 2 has recently been released for the Xbox One, adding to the console’s abundant NEO GEO port collection. The Last Blade 2 has also appeared on the PlayStation Store, following the lead of Xbox Live, which has had its version of the port since May. These releases seem to coincide with Fatal Fury 2 being released on the Nintendo Switch, and it continues the general trend of present-gen platforms bulking up their assortment of retro titles — particularly fighting games of the SNK variety.

The Art of Fighting follows the story of Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia a year after it was revealed that antagonist Mr. Karate was, in fact, (spoiler alert) Ryo’s father, Takuma Sakazaki. The classic game premiered in 1994, but you can purchase it on your Xbox One today by clicking here.

Set in Japan’s Edo period, The Last Blade features a cast of eclectic sword-slingers in a story that is heavily influenced by Japanese mythology. First released in 1997, this SNK fighter rocked its fans with stunning visuals and a unique fighting system that was ahead of its time.
