Hoping to make a splash in the FGC, a brand new esports organization called beastcoast has signed two of the Smash community’s most notable free agents. Bringing in Mike “MikeHaze” Pulido for Melee and Ramin “Mr. R” Delshad for Smash 4, the “player-oriented organization” is looking to make waves ahead of Evo.

Mr. R and MikeHaze are cut from the same cloth when it comes to their Smash heritage, with both of them making their names as top level Marth mains back in Brawl. While MikeHaze moved to Melee and became one of the Foxes to watch, Mr. R continued onto Smash 4, where he has earned the title of the world’s best Sheik and number 9 on the most recent Panda Global Rankings.

According to their website, beastcoast is built off of “a decade of experience in the esports scene” and hopes to foster the personal brands of their players, while keeping a “healthy relationship” with the wider community. They have certainly popped up out of nowhere, with their Twitter account appearing out of the ether earlier today.

Both players join beastcoast following a period of free agency, with Mr. R leaving Elevate and Mike Haze departing Obey Alliance. Mr. R is known for having a stringent set of guidelines when it comes to joining potential esports organizations, so beastcoast have clearly delivered the goods in order to get Europe’s best Smash 4 player on board. We’ll no doubt see more from this new team in the coming months, so stay tuned for more information.

Usually reserved for the end of the year, Red Bull have teamed up with MeleeItOnMe to release a mid-year edition of the SSBM Rank, listing the current top 50 in the world of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Not only does this release of this ranking coincide with Evo 2017, but it mirrors the recent release of the PGR v3 for Melee’s younger brother, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Much like PGR v3, entries in this top 50 will be released every other day, leading up to the start of Evo on July 14th. Ranks 50-41 have already been released, with ranks 40-31 scheduled to come out sometime today. Based on these results, I imagine some esports organizations will be picking up some Melee free agents for the rest of 2017.

This Summer ranking also links up with Red Bull’s upcoming Gods and Gatekeepers tournament, which is happening from September 2nd-3rd in Los Angeles.
