Get Ready for the first battle: beginner tips and tricks for Tekken 7

Hop kicks, wall carry, low parries, godfists… when learning to play Tekken competitively, it’s easy to get caught up in the lingo. Terms like these and others can be especially confusing for those who are used to playing traditional 2D fighters and are entering the 3D land of the iron fists for the first time.

Here to show 2D-heads that they’re not alone in their Tekken 7 journey is YouTuber raidhyn, who has created a great beginners guide filled with tips and tricks designed to help you conquer that 3rd dimension. raidhyn does a great job of trimming the fat and getting down to the nitty-gritty of what you do and don’t need to know about Tekken 7‘s core mechanics.

While we hope you can find all of the tech and strategy help you need in Tekken 7 here at SRK, this guide is a practical reference for everything those videos assume you already know as a Tekken player. Even Heihachi Mishima was a noob once, so check out the video below to begin mastering the basics.

Fighter 101 discusses the divide between old school and new school fighting games

Does elitism prevent players from accepting new versions of their favorite games?

In this new video, Fighter 101 examines how “old school” values caused them to resent new players succeeding in new, more accessible games; specifically, how a Street Fighter V player can find success more quickly now than a Super Street Fighter II Turbo player could — based on both the design of the respective games, and the resources available to their generation. But they warn that holding on to elitism from the retro gaming experience can cloud one’s judgement of modern titles, and what they offer players and the community as a whole. There are rewards to adaptation, if you want the most out of your games.

2GGaming announces West Side Saga, coming to the Esports Arena on September 9th

With only a couple of Sagas left to go before the Championship Finals, 2GGaming have announced the next event on the 2GGC Circuit. Hoping to celebrate the entirety of the West Coast, September’s Saga is titled 2GGC: West Side Saga.

The goal of the event is to “showcase as much West Coast talent as possible”, along with supporting any other regions that make the journey to attend. To aid out-of-region players, 2GG is offering a $10 entrance fee discount to the first 200 non-SoCal players who sign up to attend West Side Saga. Esports Arena is also going to distribute $1000 among the three regions (outside of SoCal) with the most attendees, so rally the troops if you want a bit of extra cash for your area.

As usual, both singles and doubles events will be at West Side Saga, with Esports Arena putting up a $2000 pot bonus for singles and $500 for doubles. Seeing as it is called West Side Saga, I’d love to see a Sharks versus Jets crew battle, complete with a Bayonetta dance-off to decide the event.

This could be fun! All the known anime and manga references for Android 18 (and 17) in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Android 18’s playable appearance in Dragon Ball FighterZ has her bring along her brother Android 17 as an assist character. For those looking for them, this means twice the number of references to the original manga and anime.

Aside from borrowing from various scenes in the original source material, Android 18 also borrows a number of references to some of her previous video game appearances. Meanwhile, some of her normals seem to be taken from moves Android 17 has done in the source material. Android 17 himself also has his own share of references as well, and also copies some moves from his sister.

Their Accel Dance super comes straight from Dragon Ball Extreme Butoden — a game developed by Arc System Works — while her Assist has Android 17 warning an opponent that they should not interfere with the fight. Not only is it an ‘anti-Assist’ Assist, but his speech is word for word identical to a speech he delivers to the Z-Warriors during Vegeta’s fight against Android 18. Talk about faithfulness to the source material.
