Cotto outpoints Kamegai to win vacant WBO light middleweight title

Four-weight world champion Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs) outpointed Japan’s Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-4-2, 24 KOs) to win the WBO light middleweight title on Saturday night at the StubHub Center, Carson, California, USA.
Cotto, 36, won his sixth world titlle by a 12-round unanimous decision with scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110 from the judges.
The Puerto Rican dominated the action from the start with combination punching, although Kamegai, 34, always kept coming forward.

James Rolfe (the Angry Video Game Nerd) gives his take on 1995’s Mortal Kombat movie

In the 1990s, movie adaptations of video games were on their way becoming merely a method of milking money from unsuspecting and naive children. People remember this decade of video game movies and shudder at adaptations like Super Mario Bros., Double Dragon, and the notorious Street Fighter.

However, one adaptation was released that raised the bar for later game adaptations to come — at least a little bit — and that was Mortal Kombat in 1995. While it hasn’t necessarily aged well, it was able to showcase what sticking to the source material can actually do for a successful movie.

James Rolfe — famous for his Angry Video Game Nerd series of game reviews — has now delved into the film. While he admits that the movie does not generate the hype for him that it did when he was a kid, he praised the producers for sticking to the plot of the game and portraying the characters and scenarios as faithfully as possible. He also comments how the game comes full circle: once being inspired by Enter the Dragon, it also becomes a film with a similar structure to the Bruce Lee classic.

A married couple’s first fight? Tekken 6 at the Japanese Mikado arcade

Responsibilities, adulthood, marriage… all those typically get in the way of fighting games. But what if the one you marry is your sparring partner? Whether this is the first “fight” of their marriage or a way to commemorate a special time over a video game, this Japanese couple held their ceremony at an atypical place.

Kazuhiro and his wife Yukiko got married at Mikado, the famous Japanese arcade. Surrounded by arcade cabinets of various titles, a red carpet graced the rented out venue. As for the guest seats, they used the chairs typically used for sittings at the cabinets.

Post the ceremony, the couple dove into some Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion sets. Why that game and not Tekken 7? It’s unclear, but maybe that’s the game the couple bonded over in the first place.

It’s endearing to see how much fighting games can mean and bond two people together. Let’s hope any future fights stay within the realm of Tekken!
