Red Bull: Tower of Pride results, featuring Tokido, Daigo Umehara, Nemo, Luffy, and others

While the United States enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday yesterday, some of Japan’s top Street Fighter V talent was facing off at Red Bull’s Tower of Pride event in Tokyo. The open entry event took place in three stages: in stage one, challengers faced off in groups for the right to face off against one of eight “gatekeepers” in stage two. The winners of the gatekeeper matches advanced into an eight-player single-elimination bracket in stage three.

The event’s eight gatekeepers included Hx.CYG BST|Daigo Umehara, RB|Bonchan, QanbaDouyu|Xiao Hai, Echo Fox|Tokido, NASR|Big Bird, GGP|Kazunoko, DNG|Tachikawa, and AW|Nemo. Among the challengers to emerge from the Tower of Pride were Capcom Cup qualifiers RB|Luffy, CO|Dogura, CO|GO1 and Gachikun, along with strong Japanese players Machabo, Anman, Vanao, and Mizuha.

During the group stage, each player was given 10 coins to wager against the other players in their groups during their matches. The player with the most coins advanced onto the gatekeeper match. A number of notable players competed in stage one, but failed to move on to the next round, such as Bx3|Phenom, Haitani, DNG|Itabashi Zangief, John Takeuchi, StormKubo, and Reiketsu.

SNK’s The King of Fighters XIV may be one of the most criminally underplayed big name fighting games on the market. Arguably one of the best fighting games to come out last year, the game’s lackluster graphics and supposedly steep learning curve have discouraged some players from trying this otherwise excellent game out.

The same 50% discount also applies to The King of Fighters XIV’s “Deluxe Pack,” which comes with the four DLC characters. This brings its price down to only $37.99, down from $74.99. Finally, for those who already have the base game, the DLC “Upgrade Pack” is also subject to the same 50% discount. The pack now goes for only $9.99, down from its regular price of $19.99.

The 7th TOPANGA Charity Cup, featuring Street Fighter V 5-on-5 team matches, starts November 25th in Tokyo

Some intense Street Fighter V team battles are about to start in Japan!

TOPANGA is holding their 7th Charity Cup, where a massive array of Street Fighter V competitors — including Daigo Umehara, Itabashi Zangief, Moke, Nemo, Tokido, MOV, Xiao Hai, and many many more — will clash in 5-on-5 team matches! They’ll be fighting to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross Society. The event begins in Tokyo on November 25, 10:00 AM (5:00 PM PT today).

You can see the event details on TOPANGA’s Charity Cup 7 Japanese webpage — you’ll need Japanese reading proficiency or Google Translate skills, of course — but you can see the team listings, and even search the teams by SFV mains. The completed brackets will be posted to Challonge when ready. Shin Tanimoto returns with Excel-less combos for Pullum and Shadow Geist in Street Fighter EX 2 Plus

With the beta edition of Fighting EX Layer fast approaching, Shin Tanimoto has continued his combo series for Street Fighter EX 2 Plus, showcasing the combos that are available to all characters without using the Excel custom combo system.

In this video, he shows off combos for Pullum and Shadowgeist, with the latter having devastating combos, including an infinite combo with relatively easy inputs. But let’s not forget the final combo with Pullum where she literally dances her opponent to death. What a way to go.
