Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with Project Justice: Rival Schools 2

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” marches on! SSFC2017 is the currently ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Of all the times we’ve signal boosted Mikado’s excellent tournaments, Project Justice: Rival Schools 2 is consistently the most shared and favorably received games on our site. It’s the right combination of simplicity and nostalgia to really resonates within the FGC. There’s also a certain thrill of watching players battle with, and against, some of the hysterically strong stuff that’s developed over the years in this game’s meta — if you’ve complained about jabs in other games, oh man.

Perhaps most importantly, it’s been a very long time since Capcom took a crack at the 3D fighter genre, and it’s hard to ignore the clamoring for a new title in the series. Until that announcement day comes, though, we’ll have to wait patiently and just enjoy some high level tournament play from one of Japan’s finest arcades.

Capcom Pro Tour NA Regional Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds 2017 streaming live from Boston, Massachusetts

The 2017 Capcom Pro Tour nears its end. This weekend’s Red Bull Battle Grounds in Boston is host to the CPT North America Regional Finals, the last event before Capcom Cup. By the end of the weekend 31 of the 32 Capcom Cup Finals competitors will be known, leaving only the Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier as the absolute final chance to make it into the global finals. Red Bull Battle Grounds will also have side events for Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

North America Regional Finals Qualified Players

As with the previous Regional Finals, seven players have already qualified for the event through their performance on the NA ranking points leaderboard. The survivor of the open Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday will join those players to complete the bracket of eight for the Regional Finals proper on Sunday. The winner of the Regional Finals will secure a guaranteed spot in Capcom Cup, regardless of leaderboard performance.

Some fierce competitors will be fighting through the Last Chance Qualifier to reach the finals, including Snake Eyez, Samurai, Alex Myers, JB, Vagabond, LPN, Wolfkrone and more. Check out the brackets on Smash.gg for a full player list.

Battle for the Stones Online Europe Qualifier streaming live

With the six official offline Battle for the Stones qualifiers now complete, the battle shifts to online to determine the final three competitors for the main event in December. While those who qualify via online won’t have access to rule-bending Infinity Stones that the offline qualifiers possess, securing a spot means a chance to compete against the previous Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Evo champions for a share of prize pool of over $30,000.

First up is the Europe qualifier, followed by the Latin America qualifier on November 25 and the North America qualifier on December 2. The Europe qualifier is down to its final eight players:

Fighting EX Layer’s online beta will be available to PlayStation Plus members

ARIKA have released more information about the Fighting EX Layer beta, following its announcement earlier this week. One crucial bit of information that wasn’t covered in that announcement was how to access the beta on December 11th. Well, as long as you’re a PS Plus member with an account in one of the following countries, you’ll be able to play:

Unfortunately for South East Asian players, the Fighting EX Layer beta will only be available in Japan — so you will have to make a Japanese PSN account and use your free two weeks of PS Plus in order to play. The actual beta launch will be staggered, with the Americas getting access to the beta on December 11th, while the rest of the world gets in on December 12th.

Legacy controllers will not be available to use during the beta, but ARIKA are in talks to ensure that legacy drivers will be included in the final release of Fighting EX Layer. Unlike other recent online betas, players will have access to Training Mode as well as Player Matches, meaning you can do some lab work in between games. ARIKA have even uploaded two videos to their Facebook, showing exactly how long it takes to start an online match and switch characters while in Training Mode.
