Become master of the Dragon Balls with the Pacific Northwest’s Budokai League

For future Dragon Ball FighterZ players living in the Pacific Northwest, there’s a tournament series waiting for you. Called the Budokai League, this series will see players trying to collect seven Dragon Balls from winning tournaments dotted around the region. If you collect all seven, you will win a flight to any US major of your choosing.

The Dragon Balls will be first distributed among the winners of select monthly tournaments in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. From then on, players can collect a Dragon Ball by either beating a player with a Ball in tournament, or by organizing a special Dragon Ball Match with your region’s Budokai official. Unless you have a Dragon Radar Ticket — which will be given to runners-up of monthlies in the Pacific Northwest — you can only schedule a Dragon Ball match if you yourself have a Dragon Ball to wager.

You can read the full ruleset right here, but if you collect all seven Dragon Balls and manage to keep hold of them after two Dragon Ball Matches, the eternal dragon Shenron will grant you a free flight to a US major of your choice. This league is certainly a cool concept, and I hope other regions will take on this format to build hype for Dragon Ball FighterZ.

New World – Rezzed: Five Things We Want from New World

Just this Sunday, a video surfaced on Reddit that’s supposed to be of an early Alpha build of Amazon’s New World MMORPG. While we’ve reached Amazon Game Studios’ PR about this possible leak (it’s still rumored as of this writing), we thought we’d rez an old list from just after the game’s official announcement in 2016.

SRK Forums to close at the end of January 2018

After serving as a place to meet and discuss fighting games for many years, the SRK Forums will unfortunately be shutting down at the end of January, 2018, due to their gradually decreased use. Tom Cannon offers these words to send off our little piece of FGC history:

Shoryuken.com launched back in 2000 with the title “Your competitive edge.” Back then, it was pretty tough to get accurate information about mysterious fighting techniques like the “kara cancel.” The goal of this site was to allow hard-core fighting game players to connect, both to share strategies and meet up IRL to play.

Nearly 20 years later, the way we as fighting game fans consume information has exploded. We’re lucky to have a wealth of content out there now, from YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, reddit, and more. In a world of highly-connected players, the need for a centralized info hub is greatly diminished. So, it’s time to say goodbye to the SRK forums.

It’s been an epic ride, and I’m glad that we were able to provide a discussion venue for all aspects of the FGC, from tournament strategies, player meetups, stick-building resources, etc. Thanks to everyone out there who spent time on the site.

To help facilitate the transition of content from the forum section to other locations, we’re leaving the forum site open until the end of the month. Front page news and editorial content will continue as normal. We appreciate your readership, and encourage you to look forward to new content from Shoryuken throughout 2018.
