Mikaten 3 will feature heavy-hitting Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 action this weekend

Japan is shaping up to be the spot for top level fighting games this weekend. Not only is the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Cooperation Cup happening, but for fans of Guilty Gear, Mikaten 3 will also be showing off some top-level Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 first-to-tens on Saturday and Sunday.

At 4:00 PM JST on Saturday (11:00 PM PT on Friday), Omito’s Johnny will take on former Evo champion Ogawa’s Zato-1, followed up by Omito facing off against Herken’s Sol. On Sunday at 2:00 PM JST (9:00 PM PT on Saturday), Herken will fight Ogawa, followed up by Tourio’s Ino going up against Fumo’s Elphelt. All of this will be streamed in both English and Japanese, with the English stream taking place on Joniosan’s Twitch channel.

“Touhou Hyouibana ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers” officially released on Steam

Touhou is a long running, difficult to obtain, cult-classic series of 2D bullet hell shoot-’em-up games and fighting games. If you were in the corner of the FGC that (likely pirated) and played Immaterial and Missing Power in 2004, congratulations: you’ve officially lived to see an easily-obtainable Touhou fighting game for the PC. Today, Team Shanghai Alice’s Touhou 15.5 ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers (東方憑依華) is officially released on Steam, and you can check out its Steam page here.

AoCF is a one-on-one aerial fighter with no ground combat, similar in vein to its free-flying predecessors Urban Legend in Limbo and Hopeless Masquerade. Heavily influenced by their bullet-hell roots, these games feature a unique movement system and projectile nullifying technique called “Grazing.” You can read more about these mechanics here.

This game, like every Touhou game before it, has no official English language support — for the moment. The developers have stated that AoCF’s future updates will be in English, making it the first official game to have an official translation.
