Japanese player puts together useful courtesy and travel guide for those going to Evo Japan

Evo Japan is nearly upon us, and soon, many members of the FGC community will find themselves in the Land of the Rising Sun for the first time. While most of the arrangments probably have been made if you’re indeed going, a little extra research on how to get around and behave won’t hurt. After all, while there is a lot of information in English, there’s still a language barrier present, and Japanese customs are very different.

Luckily, known Japanese Guilty Gear player (and very good Venom), 310, put together and quick and easy guide with useful links that talks about a few things you need to know. In his Travel Guide for the FGC, he points to some good money exchange spots in Akihabara and Ikebukuro, and some tips for trains (which, importantly, don’t run 24 hours). Scroll to the bottom to see some important travel words.

But what’s going to be really important for FGC players is the “Arcade Etiquette” section. For one, you have to understand how lines in the arcade work. You shouldn’t play again if you’ve lost if there are any people behind you, unless they are fine with it. Also, some arcades allow smoking, but not all places do. 310 also gave map links to all the arcades you’d like to visit and listed their “main” games.

Recently, he updated the original doc — and welcomes questions. Check out the full guide on Evernote.

Good luck to those going to Evo Japan, and also, you may remember him from the 310 homage Guilty Gear combos.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] will support legacy sticks, cross-play between PS4 and PS3

Good news for Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] fans who are excited about the upcoming US and European console releases of the game. Aksys Games recently announced that the game will, in fact, support legacy controllers. That means arcade sticks which only worked with the PlayStation 3 will work in this version of UNIST on newer consoles. What’s more, PS3 owners will be able to play with those who own the PS4 versions of the game.

This is in addition to everything else the [st] update offers — such as a robust Tutorial Mode that teaches the game, Challenge missions for characters, and a lengthy story mode titled Chronicle. Those who attend the upcoming Frosty Faustings X tournament can try out the localized version there!

The European edition is similarly coming out on February 9th, and there’s a special UNIST “End of Dawn” edition available as well. Also, make sure to read up on the recap of the UNIST scene in 2017.

Sylvanos, the Heart of the Forest, joins the Rivals of Aether roster later this year

Dan Fornace and the Rivals of Aether team have just announced a brand new character during the Rivals Championship Series 2 finale at Genesis 5. This new fighter is Sylvanos, the Heart of the Forest — a raging spirit who rules the Aetherian Forest floor.

Taking clear inspiration from Ivysaur in Project M, this monstrous half wolf/half plant excels at the mid range, using its vines to keep foes at bay. Similar to Ivysaur’s Bullet Seed, Sylvanos can shoot a man-eating flower bulb from its tail, which can create a spinning projectile or plant grass on the stage. Sylvanos can also plant grass by simply running around the stage, which can be used to extend the range of certain projectiles or his dash attack. He can even awaken the grass, causing thorns to sprout up from the ground and knock opponents into the air. If you don’t stop Sylvanos early, he’ll spread across the stage like a weed.

Sylvanos’ vines make him a devastating ranged fighter, with his up smash causing a giant wooden stump to erupt from the ground and hit airborne opponents. His up air is a lot like Ivysaur’s Vine Whip, with it having a tipper hitbox on the tip of the vine. Not only can he uses these vines like Corrin’s Pin — lodging them in platforms to keep him briefly suspended in the air — but one of his specials has Sylvanos burrowing through the side of the stage and erupting up from the floor. You’ll have to drastically reconsider your edgeguards against this overgrown opponent.

Sylvanos doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but expect him to release alongside the final original character for Rivals of Aether, who was briefly teased at the end of this trailer. Based on a Twitter poll from last year, this final fighter will be either a snake or a rabbit, piloting what sounds like a propeller-powered robot.
