NuckleDu to fly out local Florida FGC talent to Evo 2018 this year

Top players have always had a history of supporting the fighting game community by trying to bring up rising talent. From Justin Wong’s tradition of sending players out under his “WongNation” tag, to Infiltration bringing NL, Verloren, and Xyzzy out to overseas events, and now MenaRD’s esports team supporting Dominican players, it is always great to see the top players give back.

2016 Capcom Cup champion NuckleDu is doing the same. This year, he has endeavored to send out one local player from his native Florida to Evo 2018, in an effort to “share with players who don’t have the opportunity to travel, to experience what I do on a daily basis.” The way to take advantage of this opportunity is to win a local tournament in Seminole — called GoTE — that has NuckleDu publicized in his Facebook post regarding his choice to give back to the FGC.

The tournament is tomorrow, on Tuesday the 13th at 6:00 PM ET, so make sure you are in attendance if you are in the area!

Project Genom – Massive PTS Update Nearing Completion

The Project Genom team has posted its weekly update letter on the official site to let fans know that the massive PTS update is nearing completion. More than a few systems have undergone major improvements and through revisions in preparation for PTS testing. In addition, the team is working hard on optimizing the game world and graphics performance.

SRK READER POLL RESULTS: A “fantasy” Evo game lineup, as chosen by your votes!

Eight main stage games for a hypothetical Evolution Championship Series, as selected by SRK readers!

We asked you on Saturday morning to choose what eight titles — regardless of any real-world logistical, legal, or financial limitations — you would want to see on the Evo main stage. (We asked for eight because that is the number of main games Evo 2018 will actually feature this summer.) The readers have delivered, and the votes have been counted. Without further ado, here is your “fantasy” Evo eight-game lineup:

It seems the general readership is mostly in agreement with the 2018 lineup — with two notable exceptions in the inclusion of The King of Fighters XIV and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and the absence of Super Smash Bros. Melee. DBFZ is the most-wanted by a wide margin — it will be interesting to see the registration numbers this year in Las Vegas, as this game may be poised to draw in even greater attendees than SFV!

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite fell just shy of the top eight, with 25.40% of the total voters choosing to include it. Melee? Just outside the top ten at 21.58%, beaten by BlazBlue: Central Fiction at 24.92%. Interestingly: Skullgirls 2nd Encore earned 17.30%, tied with Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Capcom vs. SNK 2 (16.03%) beat out Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (14.60%), Ultra Street Fighter IV (14.29%), and Super Street Fighter II Turbo (12.06%). But newly-released Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] beat ’em all at 16.83% inclusion, and was itself topped by Killer Instinct at 20.79%. Pokkén Tournament DX only managed to grab 10.48% of the voters’ hearts. SoulCalibur II (11.11%), Mortal Kombat XL (10.63%), Vampire Savior (9.05%), Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (also 9.05%), and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future (8.57%) all made it into the top twenty-five selections.

Evo Japan selection ARMS only earned 6.35% of your votes — new release Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is more-requested at 8.41%. Perennial side-game favorite Windjammers earned 4.92% — tied with Dong Dong Never Die, actually — and Catherine earned 4.29%. Only 2.86% of you want to see the FGC play Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, but that’s more than want to see Street Fighter X Tekken, at 2.22%.

Of course, this is not the lineup we’ll be seeing on the main stage in Las Vegas at Evo 2018 — but you can still play the games you enjoy the most at the numerous Evo side events you’ll be seeing crop up very soon. Not being a main stage title doesn’t mean your game won’t be at Evo somewhere — even if you have to bring it yourself, make sure you continue to play what you love. (Oh, and for those that may have noticed that BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle wasn’t on the poll list: we decided to leave off games that had not yet been published, even though the actual Evo lineup sometimes doesn’t — including in this year’s instance, clearly.) The Evo 2018 World Finals will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 3-5, 2018.

Tune into Arc System Works’s Twitch stream today at 5:00 PM PST for a special announcement

Are you an Arc System Works fan, and had nothing to do planned in a few hours? Well, thanks to this surprise teaser on the @ArcSystemWorksU Twitter, you do now:

While there’s very little indication of what the announcement could be, the guests involved at least allow us to speculate a little. With Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle and the the re-balance of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 both set to roll out soon, the producers may be brought on for more information on these titles. Then again, the above image references the company’s comical Evo 2018 promos — perhaps we have a future bombshell related to the world’s biggest fighting game tournament…?
