Tokaigi 2018 to feature tournaments for Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros for Wii U and more
A regular fixture in the Japanese gaming calendar, Tokaigi 2018 is looking to be a jam-packed event, with multiple games getting special tournaments. Alongside the annual Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Invitational hosted by NicoNico, this year’s Tokaigi will feature tournaments for:
- Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
- Tekken 7
- Dissidia Final Fantasy NT
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- ARMS
Like last year’s Smash 4 Invitational, the bracket is made up of four foreign players and 12 Japanese players. Six Japanese players have already qualified, with six spots to be filled via special Tokaigi qualifiers at regional events like Umebura, Sumabato, Shulla-bra and so on. Here is the current player line-up:
- MSF|Larry Lurr
- C9|Ally
- NRG|Nairo
- CLG|VoiD
- KEN
- Choco
- DNG|Nietono
- Kirihara
- Ron
- Rizeasu
For Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V, these events will also issue the first of Japan’s pro licenses for select players — bringing the country’s new esports initiative into effect. In the case of Street Fighter V, the tournament will be made up of invited players, who will play off in an initial group stage, with the top two from each group making it to a final bracket. The winner of the overall bracket will then be awarded the first pro license for Street Fighter V — although the rules have yet to be finalized so this grand prize may change.
As for Tekken 7, six players have already been picked to compete in the pro license tournament: three from special online qualifiers and another three from Bandai Namco’s official Japanese Championship Battle series that they held earlier in January. The final two players will then be selected from a special last chance qualifier, held at Tokaigi 2018.
The Tokaigi website also provides more information on the actual pro licenses themselves, but you’ll need to read Japanese to fully understand it. All of these tournaments are to be streamed via NicoNico, so expect more information on the competitors as we draw closer to the event.

Capcom to address a number of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition bugs in an upcoming patch
Here comes the bug swatter for Season 3.
While the most famous has been the Urien V-Trigger II invincibility glitch, it seems a number of bugs crept their way into the Arcade Edition build of Street Fighter V — affecting not only Urien, but also aspects of gameplay for Akuma, Abigail, Menat, Laura, and Ibuki. Capcom has now acknowledged these glitches, and has stated that they will be removed via an upcoming patch — the “next update,” but no specific date for that update has been yet provided. (It’ll probably be on a Tuesday.)
Here are the listed bugs and planned fixes:
Akuma
- Bug Content
When performing the V-Skill Rakan against Ken’s Shinryuken, Akuma had a tendency to move backwards upon performing the Rakan Gokyaku. - Fix Content
Fixed the movement value for Rakan Gokyaku, eliminating the phenomenon.
Menat
- Bug Content
The active frames for each of her normal throws without the crystal ball were 2F. - Fix Content
Fixed so that the active frames for each of her normal throws is 3F, the same as with the crystal ball.
Urien, Ibuki
- Bug Content
When activating their V-Triggers Aegis Reflector and Rokushaku Horokudama against an opponent who is getting hit, one extra hit was added to the combo scaling count. - Fix Content
Fixed so that the combo scaling count for Aegis Reflector and Rokushaku Horokudama on activation is the same as before.
Urien
- Bug Content
With his V-Skill Metallic Aura active, during the forward dash attack movement of Tyrant Blaze, upon absorbing an enemy attack with the armor property Urien would gain complete invincibility for the remaining duration of the move. - Fix Content
Fixed so that Urien will not lose his hurtboxes upon taking a hit against the armor of Tyrant Blaze with Metallic Aura active.
Abigail
- Bug Content
Abigail could cancel the first hit of Abigail Punch (each strength) into V-Trigger. - Fix Content
Fixed so that Abigail cannot cancel into V-trigger from the first hit of Abigail Punch.
- Bug Content
During the forward movement of the max-charge Metro Crash, Abigail gained an unintended number of armor hits. - Fix Content
Fixed so that Abigail will have two hits of armor during the forward-movement attack portion of max-charge Metro Crash.
Laura
- Bug Content
When performing Shock Dance from a normal move cancel, the proper combo scaling was not applied. - Fix Content
Fixed to apply the proper V-Trigger activation combo scaling when Shock Dance is activated from a normal move cancel.

Guild Wars 2 – Alliances Announced!
Without a doubt, World versus World is one of the least updated aspects of Guild Wars 2. Which is why when Arenanet announced yesterday that they were working on a massive overhaul to the server and population balancing systems of WvW, players went into a hype frenzy! This system will take several months to develop, with no ETA as of yet, but is promising to be the biggest change that WvW has ever received.
