PSA: Online registration for Texas Showdown 2018 ends tonight

Don’t miss your chance to join the largest fighting game tournament in Texas!

Established in 2000, Texas Showdown is back for its 19th installment this year and — like the state itself — looks to be bigger than ever. Taking place at the Hilton Post Oak in Houston May 4-6, this year’s event will feature 14 main games, with the lineup being as follows:

  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition – CPT 2018 Ranking Event
  • Tekken 7 – 2018 Tekken World Tour Challenger Event
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • Injustice 2
  • Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
  • Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late [st]
  • The King of Fighters XIV – MAX Cancel Cup
  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
  • Killer Instinct
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo – Tournament of Legends III Qualifier
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2
  • Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 3)
  • Windjammers

In addition, there will be a cosplay contest, a “Battle for Texas” 3V3 SFVAE Team Battle event to determine which region of the state is supreme, and the upcoming SoulCalibur VI will be available for attendees to get their hands on.

But you better act quickly to get in on the action, as Online Registration for the event ends tonight at 11:59 PM CT. Emergency on-site registration will be available on May 4th until 9:00 PM, but will see the fee increase from $55 to $70, and you will be both unseeded and either given byes in your bracket or placed into a “death pool.”

Registration (via smash.gg,) is available at txshowdown.com/Home/Register.

The King of Fighters XIV’s latest update fixes odd move interactions with both new and old characters

After the release of the 3.0 patch, SNK announced that they were releasing yet another patch to smooth out a few issues in that update. Now, The King of Fighters XIV version 3.01 is here, and it does exactly that.

The 3.01 update for The King of Fighters XIV concerns itself with fixing some unintended move interactions. These include some oddities involving the moves of new characters Oswald, Heidern, and Blue Mary. In addition to them, older characters King and Robert Garcia have some glitches fixed as well.

For those interested in the exact details of these changes, you can check out the (thankfully short) change log over at the official site.

Rising Up: Season 3.5 — Important changes for Nash, Karin, R. Mika, Birdie, Necalli, Rashid, Laura, & F.A.N.G

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition has only been out for a few months, but the community had been voicing strong opinions about various characters’ Season 3 changes; in light of this, Capcom released a mid-season balance patch which sought to address some of the most common complaints about the game’s engine, and the characters in question. This patch also includes various small balance changes to every character. Because of this, I’m preparing a series of videos on ShoryukenTube showing off the most important gameplay adjustments on a per-character basis.

Continuing from my last post, this week covers the returning Street Fighter Alpha veterans Charlie Nash, Karin Kanzuki, Rainbow Mika, and Birdie, as well as the characters who debuted in Street Fighter V (on the launch roster): Necalli, Rashid, Laura, and F.A.N.G.

If you missed the previous videos, check them out here:

Rising Up: Season 3.5 — Overview and important changes for Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, M. Bison, Vega, Dhalsim, & Zangief

That covers the base roster of the game; I’ll continue on with the DLC characters in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out on the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel so you don’t miss out!
