Tekken 7 player on PC may have noticed that the game occasionally suffers from slips in performance every now and then… Now, the game’s director Katsuhiro Harada has spoken out about the issue, and the cause of it.
In a recent series of tweets, Harada has stated that the frame rate drops are not related to either graphical or processing power. Rather, it’s due to the DRM program that the game runs to protect it from piracy — Denuvo.
As for fixing the issue, Harada mentioned that they are working with Denuvo, and waiting on an update from them that should address the issue.
Those familiar with Denuvo are probably aware of the DRM program’s controversial reputation. The program has proved unpopular with gamers with many pointing to the fact that, aside from it causing performance issues, it also supposedly shortens the lifespan of solid-state drives. This is on top of generally being difficult to remove from PCs, even after the game it came with has been uninstalled. This has caused some companies to eventually remove it from their games — however, it seems that this will not be the case for Tekken 7.
Responding to some players questions about Bandai Namco removing Denuvo from the game, Harada had this to say.
It seems that, while the piracy issue isn’t that important to Harada, they do have to protect the rights of other companies whose IP is in the game.
