SNK’s next The King of Fighters game is a mobile RPG
SNK has just announced a new The King of Fighters game, and it’s likely not what fans are expecting. The King of Fighters All-Star is a mobile role-playing game for Android and iOS. Developed in conjunction with Netmarble, The King of Fighters All-Star is described as a “a mobile action RPG with easy-to-use controls that enable the flashy skill actions and exciting combo actions of The King of Fighters series.”
Additionally, they state that fighters from The King of Fighters ’94 all the way to The King of Fighters XIII will make an appearance in the game, and will be presented “without change in their original form and with the highest level of graphics quality.” This seems to indicate that sprites from these previous games will be used in this new mobile spin-off.
Now, this isn’t SNK’s first foray into making an RPG spin-off of one of their fighting franchises. They’ve been doing this as far back as 1997’s Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits: Bushidō Retsuden, which was a spin-off RPG based on their Samurai Shodown series.
As for this new game, we’ll learn more on June 15, when Netmarble has promised to reveal more details about it. In the meantime, check out this teaser trailer.
