Manga, anime, and gaming enthusiasts from all over the United States (and overseas) descended upon San Jose, CA for FanimeCon 2018 last month. One of the more popular fan conventions in the Bay Area for the past 24 years, FanimeCon has always been a big social gathering for fellow geeks and nerds to share their common interests and hang out with one another for four days straight of 24-hour action every Memorial Day weekend at the San Jose Convention Center. Whether it be for 24-hour gaming, buying collectibles or anime and gaming art in the artist alley, partying it up the Fanime dance/rave with other con-goers, or watching all sorts of anime and live-action Asian films, there’s is always something to do at any given time for anyone attending this event, every year.
Of course when it comes to big conventions such as FanimeCon, there is a huge turnout for cosplay — that is, people dressing up as their favorite character from a certain manga, anime, film, comic, or other media, usually hand-made by the person donning the outfit. This increasingly-popular hobby has become more mainstream and even accepted as a viable career choice with certain cosplayers such as VampyBitme and Yaya Han becoming famous for their cosplay craftsmanship on social media, and regularly attending anime conventions and fighting game community events to sign autographs and have panel discussions with fans.
Speaking of fighting games: there was a decent-sized gathering of cosplayers during FanimeCon weekend dressed up as characters from various fighting game series such as Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Tekken, Inustice, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Super Smash Bros. I managed to take some photos of this gathering — as well as some others that I took around the convention center — which you can check out in the gallery slideshow below.

The Rend site has been updated with a new blog post to talk about control points, a new feature that has been deployed in the most recent alpha game update. With nine “ancient relics”, i.e. control points, up for grabs, teams will have to think strategically as they take them to earn “a steady source of spirits, research sparks and the chance for artifact items while held”.

The Rage Esports Street Fighter V All-Star League is officially underway, featuring 24 of Japan’s best players in 3v3 team matches. Six team captains were chosen based from the highest-ranking Japanese players on the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour, including Hx.Twitch.CYG BST|Daigo, Echo Fox|Tokido, Fujimura, AW|Nemo, Moke, and Itazan. Captains drafted their teams for the league last week; match play began today, June 5 and will run until July 28, the weekend before Evo 2018.
The league follows a double round-robin format; each team will play the others twice in a first-to-three set match. During each set the teams select their order and play three matches. The team with two victories will win the set, but each win and loss also counts towards the team’s total round robin score. The three teams with the best records at the end of the both round robins will play each other in the finals on July 28.

The final prequel comic for the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion has been released. Called “The Three Sisters”, it chronicles a reunion between Sylvanas, Vereesa and Alleria Windrunner at their family’s estate in the Ghostlands, one that has more than a few implications for the forthcoming expansion.
Edvaldo de Oliveira defeated former Pride Fighting Championships competitor Wagner da Conceicao Martins by corner stoppage at the end of the first round in the main event of Imortal FC 9 this past weekend in São Luís do Maranhão, Brazil.
The Blizzard employment site has been updated with a new job listing for a “Diablo Dungeon Artist”. “Our team of talented developers is growing.
