Study up on SoulCalibur VI’s Xianghua with this guide from Kayane

SoulCalibur VI’s star fencer, Xianghua, plays a significant role in the game and is a series mainstay. Famous for her evasive movements, parries, and the Crybaby maneuver, this character appeals to those who like to pressure the opponent with mind games. Though she may not be as popular as some select characters, but there’s certainly a famous fighting game personality tied to her — Kayane.

The French player, widely considered as the best Xianghua for many years, put together a written guide that breaks down what you need to know to do well in the SoulCalibur VI Network Test. In her Xianghua Guide, she delineates which parts of the character are more advanced versus basic, so don’t worry about being bogged down in difficult terminology. Recognizing that the Network Test doesn’t offer optimal training conditions, Kayane describes the spirit of the character, who isn’t focused as much on damage, but pressuring the opponent as well as countering their pressure in specific ways.

After the intro, you’ll learn what Xianghua’s best moves are. The basics cover standard pokes, expanding into her stance game and the infamous 22_B, which is an evading launcher. Though combos might be difficult to grasp at first, it’s definitely recommended to know her Auto Guard Impacting moves, which can often trigger Lethal Hits for additional hitstun. Finish the opponent off by comboing into her Critical Edge or enter Soul Charge to barrage the opponent with enhanced strings. Keep in mind that even Kayane herself hasn’t had that much time to spend with the game, so this is still far from what the character can ultimately offer.

For additional help, refer to a manual put together by Bandai Namco for the network test or check out Hayate’s video guides on Zasalamel and Nightmare.

The SRK Rollback: Best of September 21-27, 2018

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from September 21 to September 27, 2018!

Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will finally hit arcades in Japan in 2019

This may seem like an afterthought this late into Street Fighter V‘s run, but it’s big news for the Japanese scene — not to mention finally legitimizing the “Arcade Edition” moniker…

Frame 2:

Tom Cannon offers insight on the classic Umehara vs. Valle Street Fighter Alpha 3 match and origin of “The Beast” with BornFree

This is a great (and fun) look back on a huge piece of FGC history, where East met West for essentially the first time in the burgeoning FGC.

Frame 3:

G is one of my favorite additions to the Street Fighter universe; in this video VesperArcade discusses just how good the President’s tools are in SFV.

This game blends traditional fighting sensibilities with platform fighter concepts, and then candy-coats it in cartoony T&A… Lazybones2020 delves into the unusual gameplay and chock-a-block fan service of SNK’s strange (and for many, creepy) new title.

Frame 5:

I guess it was inevitable we’d be talking about Fortnite on SRK sooner or later. Hopefully the mega-hit paves the way for wider cross-play for fighting games, too.

As someone that loves wrestling and robots, this obviously ticks a lot of boxes for me. Almost convinced me to jump back into SFV. Almost.

I lost two hours of my life playing around with this thing, so I think that tells you how useful of a tool I think this is.

I won’t try and convince you that Savage Reign is an amazing game, but I have an incredibly soft spot in my heart for its hilariously dated character design.

Returning to Guild Wars 2: That Pesky Itemization

In keeping with my recurring theme for returning players, I’ll be looking into the sleeping giant known as Itemization. The way Guild Wars 2 seemingly inundates players with items, lootboxes, crafting materials, gathering tools, gear and collectibles is borderline sociopathic. We’re going to cover the basic three here in the broadest possible terms, Buy, Sell, Keep, to ease the itemization shock new and returning players may experience upon entering Tyria.

Dead or Alive 6 will be coming to arcades

While it used to be a given that fighting games would come to arcades first, now that isn’t quite the case. As such, it’s quite a surprise when an upcoming game does get an arcade version announced.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed that their upcoming Dead or Alive 6 will be getting an arcade version in Japan. The arcade version will run on Sega’s ALL-Net P-ras Multi Version 3 arcade game distribution service.  This likely also means that it’s running one of Sega’s PC based arcade boards. As for other details, more information regarding this arcade port is supposed to be revealed at a later date.

The home version of Dead or Alive 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.

The SoulCalibur VI Network Test is now live on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

The first reports of players getting into the beta are now coming in, and streams are going up on Twitch from NA players and abroad. It’s here, friends. The Stage of History is back.

As with any open beta or network test, you may have difficultly getting in to your first matches. Also, you will need to download the beta from the PlayStation Store, if you have not already done so. If you use MadCatZ sticks, such as the TE+, you’ll want to make sure your buttons are set to Type B in options.

Happy games, my friends!

Fortnite is Necessary

Some of us become writers because we still believe the pen (or keyboard) is mightier than the sword. Sometimes we need to pull out that sword and put a demon down. This is one of those times. This particular demon makes World of Warcraft look like Town of Kittencare by casting is a shadow over the entire gaming industry and this writer isn’t going to let it pass! (The ego!) On this day I, an old, uncool, niche gamer shall write about Fortnite.

Cuisine Royale to Implement The Seasons of Grande Cuisine Starting with Italy

Gaijin Entertainment and Darkflow Software have announced a new series of in-game events that will be focused on the foods of various nations throughout the world. Of course, this will all be implemented in a humorous way. The Seasons of Grande Cuisine will kick off with a celebration of Italy where players will be collecting items to create great cuisine in the form of “Fancy pizza pants, Mafia suits, Venetian masks, Provocative graffiti, Antique gravestones & more”.

Character Creation in Eden Falling, a Perma-Death RPG

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Razor Edge Games and about Eden Falling. However, that has changed with the released of a brand new video that shows off the “work-in-progress” covering character creation. The video provides a look at the robust number of options that players will have at their disposal to create the character that perfectly represents them.
