novriltataki’s new “Escaping The Plateau” videos help veteran fighting game players identify weaknesses

“Every single button press has a purpose.”

Most tutorial videos are built around giving new players advice, but novriltataki recognizes that even FGC veterans can get stuck on their journey for improvement. It’s with this mindset that he’s started “Escaping The Plateau”, a mini-series designed to help veteran players identify the nuanced weaknesses in their gameplay or perceptions.

It might seem simple, but one of the most profound ways to improve is simply by imitating what top players do. “Almost all the information is on screen,” he points out. Barring edge cases of Option Selects, he’s right — by actively watching match footage, we can isolate small decisions of top players and analyze the thought processes behind those decisions.

GO1’s Gotenks setup is shown off (and slowed down) in this Dragon Ball FighterZ video

Offensive play in Dragon Ball FighterZ is nothing short of crazy — it seems like every major tournament features another wild piece of tech, stacking on more and more for the players at home to catch up on. Speedy963 is one of said players, and he’s put in the work to boot: below is his video breakdown of Cyclops|GO1’s latest pressure-maneuver for Gotenks, a character only recently picked up by the player:

Speedy963 also linked the match used for reference, shown below:

There’s no doubt that as notable players like GO1 utilize new characters, more videos like this will start to crop up. There’s no telling how the landscape of Dragon Ball FighterZ will continue to shift.
