Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Producer Listens to Fan Feedback for Sequel’s Improvements

In an interview with Siliconera, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Producer, Masayuki Hirano, discussed some of the changes that are being made to the fighting game sequel and how many of the new additions were based on fan feedback.

“Based on user feedback, we got responses from fans who said they were playing online and the opponent does long range attacks and then keeps running to try to win with a time out,” said Hirano.

Hirano and the others at work on the title are hoping to fix this issue with a new system mechanic.

“…with Xenoverse 2 we are adding a new system called the Reverse Dash, which you can use to automatically pursue an opponent,” stated Hirano.

“During this dash if you put in a special command after you dash towards the opponent you will be able to change the direction you’re flying to get behind them. You will be able to dodge and prepare for a counterattack at the same time.”

There will also be a new mechanic called the “Stamina Break.” This will allow players to take away an opponent’s stamina while following up with a quick combo. This addition to the system was created after fans said it was too difficult to pull of combos due to the quick teleportation mechanic in the previous title.

Hirano was then asked about how the development team handles different kinds of feedback from competitive players and more “technically light” gaming fans.

“It may be a little difficult, but we want to listen to both,” said Hirano. “In terms of Dragon Ball Xenoverse, we wanted to make it easy for everyone to join in and fight, but keep the combat system deep. This way people that are hardcore fighting game fans will be able to enjoy the game as well.”

Hirano later confirmed that the game would include the same number of playable races from the previous game, but that they “are going into each race and expanding the experience with each one.”

The interview ended with discussion around the hub world, Conton City. Hirano stated that there will be a variety of side quests, and that players will be able to teleport to different areas within the Dragon Ball world to explore.

More recently, Bandai Namco UK announced that Frieza’s brother, Cooler, will play a role within the game’s story mode. Taking what Hirano said into consideration, this is likely to be one of the quests that takes players to other explorable locations, this quest’s being the planet Namek.

If you are interested in seeing further breakdowns of the new combat system, YouTuber Ndukauba, has a video showcasing a few of the new mechanics.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later in 2016.

Tekken X Street Fighter Release May Hinge on Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V Success

In an interview with GameSpot at this year’s E3, Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada addressed how the development team implemented Akuma to the Tekken universe.

Harada explained that the 2012 collaboration title, Street Fighter X Tekken, was a great experience to try to get the two universes together and to see how a 3D fighting game character would behave in a 2D space in regards to gameplay. With the addition of Akuma, the Tekken 7 development team hopes to do the same thing but with a 2D fighter in a 3D space.

When asked if the fireball mechanic from Street Fighter was difficult to bring balance to, Harada responded by saying that there were plenty of instances of projectiles within the Tekken series, so balancing Akuma was not terribly difficult in regards to his signature Gohadoken.

“The thing that we really actually kind of had a bit of trouble with developing him was more the look and the feel of him. Trying to make him actually feel realistic as a 2D fighter,” said Harada.

At the very end of an interview, Harada was asked if Tekken X Street Fighter was still something that players could expect in the future if Tekken 7 does well on consoles.

Harada restated that “Tekken X Street Fighter has not been canceled; it’s just on hold.”

“Reasons are… right now Street Fighter V just launched, Capcom is putting a tremendous effort into making that successful. On our side, we released Tekken 7 in the arcade. It was even more popular than we imagined, and so we each have these two main franchises that we are trying to promote, and to have the players enjoy the moment,” said Harada.

This is in line with what Harada told GameSpot back in April when asked about Tekken X Street Fighter.

There is definitely a lot of content to enjoy with the two titles. Street Fighter V will be receiving its free Story Mode update by the end of June along with the DLC character, Ibuki. Players will also get a chance to try out the unreleased DLC characters within the story mode as Capcom continues to balance them for competitive play.

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will release in Japanese arcades this July. The game will make its way worldwide when it releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, in early 2017.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Gameplay Revealed at E3

Bandai Namco has released a brand new gameplay trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 that focuses on the high speed action we can expect from the versus mode. This trailer shows off the canyon landscape many Dragon Ball fans are familiar with. The trailer pits Goku look-alike, Turles, against alternate timeline Future Gohan.

As you can see in the trailer, Xenoverse 2 is incredibly fast paced and looks great in motion. This is mainly thanks to the game being a title only for current generation consoles and PCs. The game is also running at 60 frames per second, which help to replicate the intensity Dragon Ball is known for.

Bandai Namco also gave us an idea of how large the hub city is going to be for Xenoverse 2. It is supposed to be able to handle 300 players online at once within a space that is seven times larger than Toki Toki City, the first game’s hub world.

The company also stated that the game will receive updates and post launch support for up to one year.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is being developed by Dimps and is being published by Namco Bandai. It is set to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC by the end of 2016.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven Demo Now Available on PlayStation 4

A free, playable demo of the most recent JoJo-inspired game was made available with this week’s PlayStation Store update.

For anyone who is not a big fan of the manga and anime series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, it is completely understandable to overlook the upcoming fighting game releasing on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, but for those faithful to the series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven is a godsend.

On top of being an entertaining brawler, the game is loaded to the brim with fan service. JoJo enthusiasts will be treated with all the style and action that the series is known for. The game also has its own unique story that was made under the supervision of series creator, Hirohiko Araki.

Within the game, players are engaged in intense two-on-two battles while using the environment to their advantage. Characters are able to interact with one another with tag team combinations and special attacks, known as “Dual Combos” and “Dual Heat Attacks” respectively. Additionally, certain characters are given unique dialogue depending on who is paired with whom.

The main attraction to the demo is Story Mode. It includes a couple of cutscenes and a few fights to give players an idea of the pace and direction of the game. It also shows off a brief exploration section. These sections will be at a much larger scale within the full game, spanning cities, castles, and alternate dimensions.

There is also a Free Battle Mode which allows players to test out the game’s mechanics even more. There are only four characters available but the official website promises that the final product will have over 50 characters spanning all eight of the JoJo storylines.

After playing through the entirety of the demo, I found myself instantly hungry for more. From only watching the trailers, I was more interested in the story instead of the actual gameplay. But after experiencing the combat mechanics firsthand, I became much more enthusiastic about the battle system, which is fantastic because this is a fighting game after all!

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven is developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco. The game released late last year in Japan, but will be receiving a North American release on June 28, 2016, and a European release on July 1, 2016.
