Here are some practical applications for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s “short hop”

Last week, we put a spotlight on the super jump directional influence “short hop” that was discovered in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s Story Demo. This bit of advanced movement unique to the game opens up a lot of possibilities for the game’s characters. Now, we can get to see some of those possibilities explored.

This new video from Ravoz11 demonstrates some practical uses for this “short hop.” Some of these include a way for Mega Man X to set up a zoning pattern with a fully-charged air buster shot close to the ground. Others involve fast overheads for some characters such as Arthur and Rocket Raccoon.

Marvel Live! talks about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at CEO, and excitement for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Marvel Live! returns with a full house in their latest episode. The crew — led by host Hayden “Kinderparty” Griswold — cover two major topics: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at CEO 2017, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s story and versus demos.

Regarding Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at CEO 2017, the big topic of discussion was Ryan “RyanLV” Romero’s continued dominance in the game this year. With his team of Chun-Li, Morrigan, and Phoenix, RyanLV had another impressive showing at CEO 2017, where his run culminated with him beating fellow Morrigan player and Evo 2016 UMvC3 champion EG|Christopher “NYChrisG” Gonzales to win the tournament. With this in mind, the Marvel Live! crew talks about the possibility that RyanLV may ride this momentum towards a win at Evo 2017 — especially after beating the current champion at CEO.

The bigger portion of this episode however is dedicated the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Both the publicly-available Story Demo as well as the versus demo at E3 and CEO are covered here, with the crew giving their impressions of both. With the amount of time allotted here, they’re able to go into some details others may not have covered, such as the stage lengths (shorter than Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3), the “height” of the game (it seems to be easier to get up higher), as well as individual characters and how they’ll fit into the new tag system (e.g. Ryu’s Tatsumaki is now a legitimate lockdown “assist” once used with tag).

More importantly, they discuss why players who tried the game have become quite hype for it. The game’s system, especially the tag system, seems to allow a nearly limitless amount of freedom and creativity. For comparison, they bring up Street Fighter V, a game that has been criticized for limiting players that space to be creative and express themselves. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on the other hand seems to be doing the opposite by giving players the freedom to express themselves. Co-host Samantha “Persia” Hancock states that once she got to see people who had gotten their heads around the system (such as Echo Fox’s Justin Wong or Splyce’s Filipino Champ) play the game, she thought “This game’s gonna be ridiculous, it’s gonna be super broken,” which is really all any Marvel vs. Capcom player can ask for.

Players, wrestlers, and even the game’s developers face off in the Tekken Royal Rumble at CEO 2017

One of the unique events at CEO 2017 this year was the Tekken Royal Rumble. In this “king of the hill” style match, players would come on stage to compete in Tekken 7 with the winner of the match remaining on stage to face the next player in line, until only one player remained.

The most interesting thing about the match, however, was the roster. Aside from players such as Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo and the memetic ShinBlade, it also featured other personages such as CEO head organizer Alex Jebailey (who started the match with Echo Fox’s Cool Gray AJ), pro-wrestlers Xavier Woods from the WWE and Kenny Omega from NJPW, and even the game’s own producer, Katsuhiro Harada.

The resulting matches are both exciting and entertaining, with moments such as Alex Jebailey coming out to “you suck” chants (even though he won his first fight), Xavier Woods competing in a King-style Jaguar mask, and more.

For those who missed it, the entire Tekken 7 Royal Rumble has now been shared onto CEO Gaming’s Youtube channel. Check out the matches below!

Maximilian shares some thoughts — and footage — of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite from E3

Love or hate him, Maximilian Christiansen has done a great job in pushing fighting game content for more casual players. While he covers a lot of fighting games, the one series in particular that he’s been most associated with is the Marvel vs. Capcom series. As such, it should be no surprise that Max was at E3 to try out the latest public build of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

More than just showing gameplay footage and talking about the E3 build, however, Max also talks a bit about the downloadable story mode demo that was released just in time for E3. Specifically, he goes over the differences between the two builds, and how the downloadable demo seems to have been a let-down due to its graphically less-polished state, and the fact that it didn’t focus on the game’s strengths (the gameplay).

That said, there is still a lot of footage from the E3 build, especially since Maximilian finally gets to play his dream team of Mega Man X and Strider Hiryu.

Filipino Champ talks about “creativity” and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with Michael Martin on Cross Counter TV

One of the big buzzwords that has been bandied about in regards to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has been “creativity.” Throughout the week of E3, most players who got to try the game were indeed praising it for the creativity that it allows. That said, what exactly does “creativity” mean in the context of the Marvel vs. Capcom series?

At E3, Michael Martin asked that exact question to Splyce’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez when he got the chance to interview him for Cross Counter TV.

According to Filipino Champ, “creativity” in the series refers to how players are allowed to create situations that are very favorable for them on offense or defense. So, when a player like FChamp talks about how Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite lets him be creative, it’s about how the game allows him “hundreds of options” to create these favorable situations. Of course, this shouldn’t be surprising, considering that players have discovered “4-corner” mix ups and option selects with the Story Demo alone.

In addition to talking about creativity, FChamp also shares some more impressions of the game, including characters that he’s liking so far, while also talking a bit about why he likes “villain” characters so much.

desk gets even more creative with another batch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite story demo combos

Combo video wizard desk has been pretty busy, doing his best to try to make combo videos out of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s Story Demo. We’ve already featured one combo video, as well as his breakdown of the game’s infinite prevention system.

First up are a couple of newer combo videos. The first of these focuses on some of the more basic combos that can be pulled off.

Following up on this is a video showing some more refined combos, including more than a few that feature the use of level 3 hypers, as well as a generous helping of mid-combo tag-ins.

One of the combos in the above video is Chun-Li’s instant air dash loop. In the following video, desk does his best to break down if the loop really is an infinite, or if the system causes it to eventually drop.

IFC Yipes talks Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite with Michael Martin on Cross Counter TV

If there’s one player who’s become most-identified with the Marvel vs. Capcom series, it’s Michael “IFC Yipes” Mendoza. From getting himself known for his memetic, offhand commentary on some Marvel vs. Capcom 2 matches, Yipes has parlayed this into a successful career as a commentator, tournament organizer, and overall leader for the competitive Marvel vs. Capcom community.

With a new game — Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite,– on the horizon, IFC Yipes was naturally at E3 to try the demo. It’s here that Michael Martin got a chance to talk to Yipes for Cross Counter TV. Here, Yipes shares his thoughts on Capcom’s newest versus fighter, the current build shown at E3, as well as his thoughts on the public opinion of the game.

Justin Wong and Filipino Champ duke it out in a long Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite set at CEO

After making an appearance in the show floor at E3, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s 1v1 demo was shipped off all the way to the East Coast at CEO. Also at CEO were none other than Echo Fox’s Justin Wong and Splyce’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez, who also flew in from E3, where they already had prior hands on time with the demo.

At CEO, these two Marvel vs. Capcom legends got to spend some more time with the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite demo, including a long series of matches. For those looking to see how these matches played out, Dipset Holla has put together a playlist of off screen footage of these matches.

The footage is interesting because you can clearly see both players figuring stuff out as they play. You can clearly see moments where both players suddenly realize something, or get a combo down, and both burst out in glee. That said, considering who these players are, how they approach these matches may inform how Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be played at high level.

Check out the playlist below. Take note that there are 16 individual matches in it, so be sure to try to catch them all.

Capcom’s Mike Evans talks Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite in the Unreal Engine developer interview

The Unreal Engine has, in the span of a few years, become the game engine of choice for building fighting games. From starting out powering NetherRealm Studios’ games, it’s now also the engine behind games such as Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Xrd, Tekken 7, and of course, Capcom’s upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Producer Mike Evans recently got a chance to talk about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite in Unreal’s developer interview series. While he does mostly cover topics that have already been discussed, Evans also talks a bit about what Unreal Engine brings to the table, and how it helps them in building their latest fighting game.
