Catch an Earful of Street Fighter V’s Temple of Ascension Stage Theme

Street Fighter V is getting new stages when season 2 hits tomorrow; this means, of course, we get new stage themes. For those looking to listen to the theme for Akuma’s Temple of Ascension stage, XMikexSonicX has uploaded the multiple versions of the theme onto YouTube. This theme was included in the initial beta leak we covered, but the videos below include the extra conditional variations to the theme.

The themes feature a mix of dubstep and 1980s and early 1990s martial arts movie theme influences, combining the traditional instruments of the latter, with the former’s distinct beats and samples.

In addition to this, the stage also has special themes that play at the end of each round.

Done Correctly, Akuma Can Combo Out of His Critical Art in Street Fighter V

For the most part, super moves tend to be used as combo enders in Street Fighter games, including Street Fighter V. Being able to combo out of them is a rare attribute, one we haven’t seen in Street Fighter V. That is until now.

In this new video, the RnK Clan demonstrates how–at least in the PC Beta–Akuma can combo out of his Sekia Koretsuha super, if he combos into it with the right set up. They key is to combo into the super from his V-Skill launcher kick. This places the opponent high enough that, when the super hits, Akuma can still follow up with a Shoryuken.

What makes this interesting however, as the video below demonstrates, is that Akuma can combo into said V-Skill launcher kick, possibly making this a practical thing to do for Akuma.

King of Fighters XIV’s Classic Athena Costume May Be Coming on December 20th

A could of days back, SNK announced that Athena’s classic costume from King of Fighters ’98 would be coming soon to the King of Fighters XIV. Now, it seems that we may know when the costume is coming.

According to an article posted on Chinese site Gamersky, KOFXIV’s distributor in China, Gamepoch, has announced that the costume will be available for free from December 20, 2016 to January 5, 2017.

Take note that the above is likely only for the game’s Chinese language version. Whether or not the costume will drop for other versions on the same day is as of yet unknown.

In addition to the Athena costume, a couple of free PS4 themes will also be released on that day – a Christmas theme with Athena, Yuri, and Kula, as well as a classic Athena theme to go with the costume. These themes can be accessed by downloading the upcoming graphically updated demo for the game.

HellPockets Talks about The King Of Fighters XIV’s Graphical Update In this Interview from PSX

Chris “HellPockets” Fields is one of the most recognizable personalities in The King of Fighters community. Whenever there’s a major KOF tournament on American soil, he’s most likely to be behind the mic providing some excellent commentary.

Recently at the 2016 PlayStation Experience, FloKO TV got a chance to talk to HellPockets to get some insight into the game’s upcoming graphical update. Regarding this, HellPockets states that the updates are very noticeable and really help make the game look better.

Additionally, he also talks about possible balance changes in the build at PSX, which is surprising, considering that SNK has already stated that the upcoming update will have no balance changes.

Akuma Can Kara Cancel Into His Raging Demon in Street Fighter V Season 2’s PC Beta

Thanks to an accidental beta release by Capcom, Street Fighter V’s Season Two changes have been available early to PC users. As part of this, Akuma is also playable in the beta by playing around with the beta’s update files. This has allowed players to try him out, and test out how certain moves and properties work.

Now, one of the things that players may have been wondering about is whether or not he can kara cancel into his Raging Demon. In most of his incarnations in previous games, such as in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Street Fighter IV, Akuma can cancel the start up frames of certain moves into his Raging Demon super. Coming into the new game, one where other kara cancels were taken out, people are wondering if he could still do this.

Well–it turns out he still can, at least in the beta build. In the video below, Jake Johnson demonstrates how Akuma can kara cancel his forward and medium punch into the Raging Demon.

This is an important discovery, as it means that Akuma players can still perform the move without any stray button presses from its awkward input (light punch, light punch, forward, light kick, heavy punch) giving the move away.

Daigo Umehara Talks about Saving Street Fighter in This ESPN Feature

Diago Umehara is arguably the fighting game genre’s biggest “star.” The Beast is one of the few fighting game players to become a household name for even casual gaming fans. This also means that Umehara is one of the few players with the ability to reach out beyond the genre’s core audience.

In a new feature from ESPN, Umehara talks about this, and how he wants to use that reach to “save Street Fighter.” Specifically, Umehara points out how the game, and the genre, needs to grow and be able to attract new blood. “Everyone [should] be mindful that if there isn’t a new generation after my generation, the FGC will basically become extinct,” he states “so it’s important to think about the future.”

The future is exactly what Umehara has been thinking about, which is why he’s been using his status to help keep the genre he loves from dying off. This is why he’s been spending a lot of time on BeasTV with strategy streams, hoping to help close the skill gap between players. That said, he does admit that one of the biggest hurdles to getting into the genre and the scene is how hard it is to learn fundamentals, something he plans to address in future streams.

Of course, that’s not all that ESPN and Daigo talk about. Head on over to ESPN’s site to read the rest of the feature.
