Here’s a Sneak Peek at Razer’s New PlayStation 4 Atrox Arcade Stick

About a week ago, Evo 2016 champion Lee “Infiltration” Seon-woo from Team Razer dropped the bomb that Razer is hard at work on a new arcade stick for PlayStation 4. Now, it seems we have our first glimpse of said arcade stick.

In a recent tweet, Razer showed a promotional photo of the supposed contents of Infiltration’s backpack.  The centerpiece of the shot shows a blue Atrox featuring a new, larger switch panel with a touch pad positioned near the center of the stick (similar to MadCat’z TE-S+).

You can check out the tweet below.

However, it isn’t just Infiltration who has this stick in his bag. It seems that his teammate Xian also has the PS4 Atrox prototype in his bag, and has in fact been spotted testing it the wild. NCK Feroce from the Shoryuken forums was able to take some photos of Xian’s PS4 Atrox prototype at the CPT European Finals at Milan Games Week this past weekend.

In addition to this, it seems that Xian was using the PS4 Atrox prototype at SEAM 2016 as well. This is interesting, as Infiltration was mostly seen using a MadCatz TE2+, most likely the ones provided on the Steam setups at the event.

Combined with Razer’s tweet, these shots of the stick in what seems to be near final form being tested in the wild seem to indicate it’s almost ready for production. Razer have had it rough as of late with their arcade sticks, with the modded Atroxes that their players have been using suffering from issues at some tournaments, and most famously, Evil Geniuses’ Momochi suffering from a disconnect at Evo 2015 Grand Finals that almost cost him the tournament. A new Atrox built specifically for PlayStation 4 would address these issues while at the same time, give Razer a foot in the door for what is seemingly the console of choice for fighting games this generation.

Sanwa Denshi Signs M’ As Their First Sponsored King of Fighters Player

For the most part, Japanese companies have been slow when it comes to sponsoring players to play fighting games; so far, HORI has been the only company from Japan to do so. Now, another Japanese company is throwing their hat into the ring.

Sanwa Denshi announced this weekend that they have signed Japanese player M’ as their first King of Fighters player. M’ actually participated in last weekend’s KOF XIV tournament at Toushinsai as a player for Sanwa.

In addition to this being only the second time a Japanese peripheral company has signed a player, this is arguably the first time a Japanese King of Fighters player has received this kind of corporate sponsorship.

We here at Shoryuken wish Sanwa Denshi and M’ the best in this new relationship.

R. Mika’s Irish Whip Option Select Nerfed in the Latest Street Fighter V Patch

Generally, Capcom has had a policy of not interfering with Street Fighter V’s balance while the current Capcom Pro Tour season is ongoing. Genreally speaking, the game that we have now is the same as the one that came out last February (DLC characters notwithstanding).

However, Capcom does make some changes on occasion, usually when it comes to option selects. The latest option select that was removed from the game revolved around R. Mika’s Irish Whip. Prior to the change, R. Mika could input her Irish Whip command (forward or back with strong punch) and it would catch her opponents if they pressed buttons, or did nothing. With the change however, the move no longer completes its grab animation on counter hit.

Javits Arias demonstrated this chance in a tweet which you can see below.

The effect of this change is quite the nerf for the move as part of Mika’s pressure. Prior to this, the only answer to the option select was to block, allowing Mika to continue her pressure. Now, players can simply try to poke it out with a fast normal with little risk, as the counter hit will no longer lead into a full combo from Mika.

Persona 4 Arena Director Kazuhisa Wada Wants to Make a Persona 5 Arena

One of the most interesting fighting game spin offs of the last console generation was Atlus and Arc System Works’ Persona 4 Arena series. The series combined characters and concepts from Atlus’s Persona 4 and Persona 3 role-playing games into a unique and easy to pick up fighter that fans of both genres could enjoy.

Now, with a new installment in the franchise, Persona 5, now out in Japan, some may wonder if this game would be getting a fighting game spin off as well. Well if turns out that the Persona 4 Arena series director Kazuhisa Wada  would very much like to make a Persona 5 Arena.

During the medal ceremony for the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax at this weekend’s Toushinsai 2016, Wada stated “I definitely want to make it happen”. He also encouraged fans to speak out in support saying that “I’d appreciate it if everyone made their voices heard and sent their requests in regards to this.”

You can see Wada talking about the possibility of making Persona 5 at Toushinsai in the video below from Persona Central.

New Glitch Allows Urien to Throw an Opponent from Full Screen in Street Fighter V

Long time fighting game veterans are probably familiar with the so-called “invisible throw” from the original Street Fighter 2. This glitch allowed Guile to throw his opponents from almost anywhere on screen. Now, a glitch has been discovered in Street Fighter V that allows Urien to do something similar.

The glitch requires a specific set up. If an opponent is hit by their own projectile reflected off Urien’s Aegis Reflector, the player controlling the latter can press a specific set of inputs that will result in Urien throwing his opponent, regardless of where they are on screen.

A demonstration of this glitch has been shared by the TOOLASSISTED YouTube channel.

How or why this glitch works is as of yet unknown, though it will likely be addressed in a future patch.

Tanya Does 39% Damage with Just 3 Hits in This Mortal Kombat XL Combo

Combos that can do 30% or more damage in Mortal Kombat XL are not that uncommon, especially when meter use is added. So this video then, showing a 39% combo for Tanya, really shouldn’t be that special, except for one thing: the combo only has 3 hits.

Once she has her opponent with her Dark Shroud, Tanya’s Pyromancer variation can do a jump-in back kick into a meter-burn air fireball. The meter-burned air fireball will do massive amounts of damage due to the Dark Shroud.

Now we’ve seen damaging 3 hit combos before (King of Fighters XIV’s Athena can do a 70% 3-hit for two bars in a specific situation), this one seems quite practical, if Tanya can get the jump-in back kick (or jump-in 4 in MK parlance) to connect.

Bounce Foes Around with These Aegis Reflector Combos and Resets in Street Fighter V

When Urien was first announced for Street Fighter V, the one thing that many people looking forward to was his Aegis Reflector. This character-defining move was the source of a lot of resets, setups, and combos in Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, and many expected it to be the same in Street Fighter V. The actual Urien that players got in-game definitely hasn’t disappointed–with the Aegis Reflector becoming quite the source of a lot of stuff for Urien in Street Fighter V.

This latest video from Dr. Fatbody showcases some of the crazy and stylish resets, setups and combos that Urien can do with Aegis Reflector and the rest of his Street Fighter V toolset. There’s a lot to digest here, from resets in situations where you wouldn’t expect them, to meaty setups off his throw that lead to extended combos off crush counter.

Check out the video below.

Double Cross-Unders, Meaty Setups, and More: AutoMattock’s Twitter Is a Gold Mine for Urien Players in Street Fighter V

With the character having come out less than a month ago, many players are still in the lab looking for things they can use for Urien in Street Fighter V. One such person is the player formerly known as JiBbo, Wave Esports’ David-Paul “AutoMattock” Mattock.

For some time now, AutoMattock has been posting various pieces of tech for Urien on his Twitter account. The most well-known of these has to be this tricky double cross-under setup using Urien’s Aegis Reflector. Depending on the normal pressed, Urien can cross back under his opponent after the first cross-under.

In addition to these, he also showcases a lot of post-combo setups, such as this one using a meaty back strong punch to cover both kinds of knockdowns.

He further expands on that with this meaty standing fierce into hard to block setup here.

He also shares some complete combo-into-reset sequences, such as this 100% stun sequence against Birdie.

Here’s some further Urien lab work featuring some backdash and neutral jump punishes.

Of course, that’s not all that AutoMattock has shared. Check out his Twitter for even more stuff for SFV’s Urien.

PC Street Fighter V Players Rejoice, Steam Is Getting Official PlayStation 4 Controller Support

For Street Fighter V players on PC, one perennial issue with the game has been its controller support. Simply put, the game lacks support for direct input controllers, forcing some players to find a workaround to play the game. Now however, it seems that an upcoming update to Steam may help alleviate this issue.

At Steam Dev Days, Valve’s Jeff Bellinghausen announced that Steam would be getting official PlayStation 4 controller support. This means that players can use PlayStation 4 controllers in all games on Steam without having to fiddle with third party software.

Now whether or not “PlayStation 4 controllers” mentioned by Bellinghausen at the event refers just to the default DualShock 4 gamepad or to all PS4 controllers in general is unknown. That said, even if it currently just refers to the Dual Shock 4, Bellinghausen mentioned that they would be adding support for even more controllers in the future.
