Dead or Alive 5 Last Round’s Next Character Arrives in March

Last August, at the Dead or Alive FESTIVAL in Tokyo, Japan, Team NINJA announced that they were planning to release a new character for Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round. While their launch date was previously up in the air, we now know exactly when that new character will arrive: March 22.

The date was revealed by Team NINJA as part of an announcement detailing the contents of the game’s third season pass. Aside from the new character, the season pass also provides a number of costume sets, including one inspired by Tatsunoko properties.

This content is now for $92.99 on PlayStation Newtork and Xbox Live. Stay tuned for info on the next Dead or Alive character as we head into the new year.

Rolento’s Ultra 2 Doesn’t Give the Opponent Any Meter in Ultra Street Fighter IV

When most people think of glitches, they think of things that greatly affect how a game normally plays. However, there are some glitches so small that players barely notice them, even if their effects are more pervasive. BurnoutFighter demonstrates one such glitch in his latest video.

Like most attacks, Ultras in the Street Fighter IV series are all designed to give a small amount of EX meter to the player on the receiving end. While the amount isn’t a lot, this meter can still help, especially if a player has just the right amount already stocked. But one Ultra in particular breaks this rule.

In the video below, BurnoutFighter demonstrates how, unlike other Ultras in the game, Rolento’s Take No Prisoners does not provide any meter to the opponent. While this isn’t exactly game-breaking, it’s still interesting to see how stuff like this makes it through the cracks. Maybe keep it in mind next time you come up against (or break out your pocket) Rolento.

While this may be common knowledge to some more experienced players, it’s likely to be new to others. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.

Capcom to Hold Street Fighter V Tournament in Japan on December 23

Throughout its time in development, Capcom has occasionally held pre-release tournaments for Street Fighter V at events such as E3 and PlayStation Experience. Now, what may likely be the largest tournament of its type will be happening soon.

The developers, in cooperation with Well Played and YUBIKEN, will be hosting a special 64-player Street Fighter V competition next week in Tokyo, Japan.

YUBIKEN’s Karipaku is set to emcee the event while Shiro and Yoshiwo will provide commentary. The tournament itself will be streamed via Niconico Live.

The tournament will apparently use the latest playable build of the game, but its website does not list F.A.N.G, so folks hoping to see competitive footage of the newcomer will likely be disappointed. In any case, this is sure to be one of our earliest looks at Street Fighter V strategy from the Japanese scene, so be sure to tune in around 1 PM JST on Wednesday, December 23 (8 PM PST, 11 PM EST on December 22).

GamerBee, 801 Strider, NuckleDu, and More Strut Their Stuff at the Capcom Cup After Party

In order to help players blow off some steam after an intense Capcom Cup, Showdown.GG hosted a special after party that saw many of the competitors in attendance. Some, however, decided to celebrate the event the only way they know how: by playing more sets. Fortunately, many of these Ultra Street Fighter IV exhibitions were recorded for posterity.

These matches feature both Capcom Cup participants such as AVerMedia’s Gamerbee, YOMI’s Dieminion, WinterFox’s 801 Strider, and Team Liquid’s NuckleDu, as well as other players like pH|Crackfiend, GG|Sherry Jenix, Alex Myers, iPeru, Killer Kai, Pal, and more.

Some of the more interesting match ups below include Dieminion and NuckleDu in a battle to see who has the better Guile, 801 Strider showing off his Ryu against Pal, and Alex Myers trying to take on two Capcom Cup fighters – Dieminion and Gamerbee.

Street Fighter V Reportedly Employs 3rd Strike-Style Normal Priority System

As we get to play more of Street Fighter V through stress tests and beta phases, we’re starting to learn more and more about how it plays, at least in early builds. The latest discovery, however, may be one of the most important yet. In a new video, periodikoSF demonstrates what appears to be a normal priority system a la Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

For those who may not be familiar, 3rd Strike’s priority system governs trades. The basic rule is that stronger normals always beat weaker ones, special moves beat light and medium attacks but trade with heavy ones, and supers beat special moves.

In Street Fighter V, the game apparently applies this priority system to normal attacks, but specials will still trade with normals. Anti-airs aren’t part of the equation either.

While already important in Street Fighter V, this discovery places extra priority on learning frame traps, both from an offensive and defensive position, and mashing jab to escape pressure is now much less useful than it was in earlier titles. Also, the slower Crush Counter moves now have greater importance in situations where they trade with weaker normals, so get those counter combos in order!

Street Fighter V is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4 and PC on February 16.

Shoryukens: Fun in Video Games, Devastating in Real Life

One of Street Fighter’s most iconic moves is Ryu and Ken’s Shoryuken, also known as the Dragon Punch. Heck, it’s even the name of a certain fighting game website you may have heard of.

That said, have you ever wondered what would happen if you were ever actually hit by one square in the jaw? Well, wonder no more thanks to this brand new video from AMC and Vsauce’s Jack Roper.

The results are, interestingly enough, quite gruesome, looking more like something out of Mortal Kombat than Street Fighter.

Will this be enough to keep you from mashing dragon punches on wakeup? Watch the video below to find out.
