The folks over at VG BootCamp recently went live with another installment of Smash @ Xanadu from Xanadu Games in Baltimore, Maryland. These weekly broadcasts provide a great look at the region’s Smash community, with tonight’s stream focusing entirely on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
As a neat twist, the event will also allow players to choose custom moves, so check it out to see what these techniques bring to the table. The stream is live below, but you can also head on over to Twitch to join the chat.
Alongside updating arcade versions tomorrow, Capcom will be releasing Ultra Street Fighter IV’s ver.1.05 for home platforms as well.
While there isn’t much to speak of here, Omega Edition fans will be happy to learn that numerous characters are set to receive adjustments in the unique remix mode. The only change headed to the main, competitive title is a correction for Decapre’s anti-air DCM command, which now requires a preliminary down-back charge to perform.
Unfortunately, the game-crashing sound bug currently affecting console versions of Ultra Street Fighter IV has yet to be addressed. Capcom community manager Peter “Combofiend” Rosas previously told us that they are working on fixing the issue, though it appears we will have to wait for a future patch to see any progress.
A full list of the changes headed to Ultra Street Fighter IV tomorrow can be found on Capcom-Unity. Players on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 should see their game updated by 2 AM PST, while those on Steam will have to hold off until 8 AM PST.
While every character’s variation in Mortal Kombat X has its own strengths and weaknesses, a new discovery for Spectral Ermac may just make it the best choice if you’ve decided to main the soul-infused ninja.
According to a recent video by Test Your Might community member k-frog, by using Ermac’s levitation ability in this style and performing an airborne Soul Burst, you’re able to build just over one bar of meter. That’s right, you use two moves and gain a ridiculous amount of resources for your trouble thanks to this possible bug.
Also, quick warning, the below explanation does feature some NSFW language.
As part of their ongoing Mortal Kombat X research, Bill “Tom Brady” Menoutis and Giuseppe “REO” Grosso have followed up their initial video on this finding with one that shows how Ermac’s teleport can provide the same quick meter build.
Menoutis also touches on ways these techniques can be made safe instead of blindly whiffing moves in the air, so check it out for some further proof of its usefulness.
Due to NetherRealm Studios’ hotfix system, it’s likely we’ll see this addressed in a timely fashion, though some are debating the validity of letting it rock for this weekend’s Northwest Majors 7 should it not be corrected before then. Let us know if you think Ermac’s Spectral variation should be banned from events or kept legal in the comments below.
Over the weekend, competitors from across North America, Europe, and the Commonwealth of Independent States jumped online to throw down in ESL’s very first preseason cup for Mortal Kombat X. Over five hundred entrants would take part in the three separate tournaments, bringing together some of the best early players in the newly-released title.
North America in particular featured a ridiculous amount of talent, including Fatal 8 exhibition winner and eventual champion cR|Sonic Fox. Although it wasn’t broadcast officially, a number of participants captured their tournament matches. Two in particular, provided by Perfect Legend himself, showcase the former Evo champion’s late-stage sets against Kitana Prime, who would go on to take second place, and storied veteran REO.
If you’ve been fiending for competitive footage of Mortal Kombat X, this pair of videos is the perfect place to start, as all of the participants show great skill with their characters thanks to rigorous practice over the past week. Check them out and let us know what you think.
As with any tournament of its magnitude, Evolution is always in need of volunteers to support the main staff, and this year’s event is no exception.
In order to bolster their numbers, the organizers recently opened an application for community members who want to help run brackets. All you’ll need to do is visit the registration page and fill out the form. Past tournament-running experience is a plus, as those chosen will need to guide players through the early portions of the world’s largest fighting game competition with as few hitches as possible.
Judges are set to be fed lunch and dinner throughout the weekend and provided exclusive shirts that denote their importance. Furthermore, those who lend a hand at Evo 2015 will be given early entry into the ballroom on finals day to avail themselves of special priority seating.
Evo 2015 is scheduled for July 17-19 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More details can be found through the official website.
While the custom moves in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U have been theorized to provide a balancing effect to the base game, it was only a matter of time until folks discovered something crazy for one of the title’s many Nintendo mascots. These additional special attacks bring a wide array of new mechanics to each cast member, and a particular combination apparently grants Pikachu its very own infinite.
Like many things in Smash, this combo comes with a variety of stipulations. First off, players will need to equip Pikachu with Thunder Wave and Meteor Quick Attack, replacing its regular neutral and up specials respectively. Also, depending on how much rage the Pokémon has built up and the character being attacked, the opponent needs to be in the sweet spot of about 40%-60% damaged.
Once these conditions are met (and you manage to catch the other fighter in this particular setup), the magic can begin. My Smash Corner recently released a video demonstrating how this infinite can be started and maintained, with very detailed instructions for all you budding Pikachu mains out there.
It should be noted that these particular custom moves are never combined in any of the official Evo 2015 loadouts, so it’s very unlikely we’ll see this infinite performed on this year’s big stage.
That being said, look for it to make appearances at other Smash events throughout the year, as this powerful technique has the possibility of boosting Pikachu’s standing if folks find it convenient enough to replicate.
The folks at Iron Galaxy Studios are ready to show off more of upcoming Killer Instinct content with yet another stream. In addition to providing our first footage of returning fighter Cinder, they are sure to drop a ton of information on the community over the course of the next hour, including details on future balance changes, previews of costumes, and more depending on how many viewers they reach.
Their stream is live below, but you can also visit Twitch to join the chat.
While most eyes will be on brand new playable cast member Beowulf, today’s Skullgirls Encore patch also brings with it an extensive list of general adjustments and character changes that will further update the indie fighter’s gameplay.
Starting out with aesthetics, a number of stages have seen improvements made to their lighting and overall performance, and fans can now access the amazing Real Soviet Announcer sound pack voiced by lead designer Mike Zaimont. Finally, the amount of color palettes available to each character has been pushed to 25, allowing players even greater freedom in deciding what their team looks like.
Fans should also be happy to hear a number of updates have also found their way to the game’s training mode and overall heads-up display, providing a greater amount of information to folks during practice sessions and matches.
Of course, a large portion of the update is dedicated to balancing Skullgirls’ existing roster, from recent additions like Eliza and Fukua to characters who have been in the game since the beginning. For a complete look at how this title is set to change, check out the full patch notes here.
Beowulf is currently available on Xbox 360 worldwide, and should arrive on PlayStation Network and Steam sometime this afternoon. We have also been informed that a last-minute scheduling change will push his release in Europe back to April 24.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will be making its way to PlayStation 4 on May 26, according to an official announcement made on the PlayStation Blog earlier this morning.
Developed by Other Ocean Interactive, this port will include every piece of downloadable content released for the title so far, and reportedly removes the input lag issue faced by its predecessor on PlayStation 3.
Both Evo 2015 and Community Effort Orlando 2015 are scheduled to utilize PlayStation 4 in their competitions, and we assume additional Capcom Pro Tour premier events will make the switch now that a concrete release date has been revealed.
For a preview of how this updated version will appear on the new console, check out the gallery below.
Players will be able to purchase Ultra Street Fighter IV for PlayStation 4 at a price of $24.99
