Last year, gaming center Cafeid put on Id Global Tournament 2014, bringing competitors from all over the world to South Korea to showcase their talents in the group’s very first international effort. The event was made even more special by its emphasis on King of Fighters, a series very few major events make a focal point of their festivities in this day and age.

Fortunately, the group is set to follow up the success of their first outing with another installment in 2015. While titles like Street Fighter, Marvel, and Guilty Gear are set to make appearances, the focus will once again be placed on SNK Playmore’s flagship fighting series, with competitions planned for both King of Fighters XIII and King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match.

A total prize pool of ₩15,000,000 KRW (~$13,500 USD) will be split among the games in the official tournament lineup, bumping the monetary rewards up a bit from last year’s event.

Id Global Tournametn 2015 is set to take place April 4-5 at the Oakwood Premier Incheon in Incheon, South Korea. Further details can be found here.

Fans expecting to try out Mortal Kombat X in the comfort of their homes before the official launch, get ready for disappointment. NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon came forward a couple of days ago to reveal the upcoming title will not be released in demo form.

The studio’s previous fighting game effort, Injustice: Gods Among Us, found its way to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 two weeks before the full version reached players’ hands, allowing them some early time with the title’s mechanics.

According to producer Shaun Himmerick, this turn of events has led to a better final game. “We took that time to make a demo and made the launch game better,” he clarified.

Mortal Kombat X is scheduled to arrive for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on April 14.

With a spot on the Capcom Pro Tour as a premier event and the biggest piece of the prize money outside of the main event, Evo 2015 is set to once again make a splash in the scene suitable to the largest fighting game tournament in the world. One new decision, however, has many left many players scratching their heads.

While a definite platform had yet to be set for Ultra Street Fighter IV when the tournament’s website first went live, a recent revision states that the title will be played exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Over the years, Street Fighter IV has graced a variety of platforms, including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, all of which have been utilized in competition at one point or another. PlayStation 3 was the console of choice early on, but recent years have seen a shift to Xbox 360 due to frequent issues with Sony’s older platform.

Unfortunately, little can be gleaned about the PlayStation 4 port at this time, simply because it has yet to actually be released. The initial announcement at PlayStation Experience pegged the title for a spring 2015 launch, but details have been scarce since then.

One can possibly make the connection between this decision and Sony’s support of Capcom Pro Tour 2015, through which they most likely want to hype up the latest release of Ultra Street Fighter IV leading up to Street Fighter V’s arrival.

Evo’s Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar relayed to us that loaner sticks will be available for folks who don’t own a controller compatible with the new system, hopefully alleviating some of the added stress this change places on their shoulders.

Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas and Twitch’s Mike Ross recently sat down to discuss the big plans that their respective companies have in store for this year’s Capcom Pro Tour. A full rundown can be found here, but a few notes in particular regarding the largest fighting game tournament in the world definitely deserve their own spotlight.

Evo 2015 will once again join the Capcom Pro Tour as a premier event, giving the overall Ultra Street Fighter IV champion automatic entry into Capcom Cup 2015. Furthermore, due to its importance in the fighting game community and the level of skill that generally comes with that, Evo has been granted its very own tier in terms of the ranking points that will be doled out to high-placing competitors. While first place is obviously the goal for many players, this makes it so that the accomplishment of reaching the later stages of the event are rewarded handsomely as well.

And, to make things a little sweeter from a monetary perspective, Capcom has given Evo 2015’s Ultra Street Fighter IV prize pool a bonus of $50,000, awarded in the following amounts:

• First place – $20,000
• Second place – $10,000
• Third place – $7,000
• Fourth place – $5,000
• Fifth place – $2,500
• Seventh place – $1,500
