Jacqui Briggs Infinite Discovered in Mortal Kombat X Online Beta

Mortal Kombat X is currently enjoying a beta test, allowing players to check out netplay and provide feedback on its enhanced qualities. As was reported previously, it appears as if NetherRealm Studios has implemented a few balance changes along the way, but one update was probably not as intentional as the others.

It was recently brought to our attention that Jacqui Briggs is capable of a nasty (and rather easy) infinite combo in her Shotgun variation. All you have to do is cancel a 1212 string into a high shotgun blast and repeat ad nauseum in the corner.

The verdict is still out on who found this combo first, but El Chakotay has provided us with footage of Mortal Kombat champion cR|Sonic Fox using it to demolish him online.

There’s no doubt in our minds that this will be removed before the beta ends, but it’s always fun to explore these options while they’re available. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Capcom Looking Into Beginner Street Fighter V Tournaments for Casual Players

Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono has given a ridiculous amount of interviews since Street Fighter V was first revealed, but his core talking points have remained the same: the developers are looking to reset the competitive playing field and entice new players to join the ranks of experienced veterans. One way Capcom working towards that goal is reducing the execution barrier, but they are also planning to reach beginners with their very own events.

Speaking to Engadget, Ono let a few small details slip. While they likely won’t get off the ground this year, Capcom is currently in the early phases of setting up tournaments to welcome less experienced players into the competitive fold.

“[W]e’re looking into creating tournaments geared more toward the casual player. In Asia, we’ve already started something where we’re going to have college students compete with each other; that’s one of the things we’re doing,” Ono explained. “We also have plans — it’s still in the planning phase — but we’re talking about maybe a parent/child tournament where the parent and their kid enter together.”

Ono said their inspiration comes from the world of baseball, where highly-skilled players participate in the major leagues but interested parties who may not be able to compete at that level organize their own neighborhood leagues. “We’d like to create an environment for Street Fighter where people can do that at a casual level and get together and just play,” he finished.

In any case, Street Fighter V is shaping up to be an excellent starting point for players interested in moving past their living rooms and netplay lobbies to places like Evo. Let’s hope Capcom’s intentions pay off in the long run.

Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs Become Ninjas in Mortal Kombat X’s Cosplay Pack

There’s been a ton of Mortal Kombat X content announced over the past week or so, but the new ninja costumes worn by newcomers Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs in the game of the year trailer have yet to receive their time in the spotlight.

The next generation of Mortal Kombat fighters will be able to dress up as Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu ninjas thanks to the upcoming Cosplay Pack. Like other skins, this doesn’t really change how they’ll play, but it is a fun piece of fanservice that sees two eras combine into one.

Mortal Kombat XL, Kombat Pack 2, the Cosplay Pack, and more will be available on March 1. Preorders are now open.

Pokkén Tournament’s Controller Comes Saddled with Some Awkward Restrictions

Although Pokkén Tournament represents a dream come true for folks eagerly awaiting a Pokémon fighting game, new specifications confirmed for the official controller make the dream a bit more awkward than is probably necessary.

According to its Nintendo UK store listing, the arcade-inspired peripheral won’t be available to the first player in multiplayer matches, who will instead have to make due with the unwieldy Wii U gamepad. This leads us to believe that, much like other games before it, Pokkén Tournament also won’t support the unique controller in single-player modes.

Furthermore, those of you looking to grab the Pokkén Tournament pad should take note that it won’t be compatible with other titles.

Pokkén Tournament is set to launch worldwide on March 18. The controller will be available the same day for $24.99 / £19.99 / ¥3,480.
