Mortal Kombat X on PC Won’t Receive Kombat Pack 2 Content

NetherRealm Studios community specialist Tyler Lansdown has confirmed that Mortal Kombat X’s upcoming Kombat Pack 2 will not be heading to PC.

Suspicions were raised about the future of Mortal Komat X on PC when the ongoing netcode beta was limited to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and this seems to be the final nail in the coffin for a version that has been plagued with issues since launch.

This console restriction naturally applies to Mortal Kombat XL, the “game of the year” edition that collects all of the title’s downloadable content into one package, as well.

Rest in peace, Mortal Kombat X for PC. We hardly knew you.

Hades Izanami Lays Waste to BlazBlue: Central Fiction in Early Gameplay Footage

Hades Izanami has tormented the BlazBlue universe for years, and now she’s set to join the playable cast in BlazBlue: Central Fiction. In the reveal trailer below, the vicious antagonist proves she’s a force to be dealt with as she tears into Ragna the Bloodedge, Jin Kisaragi, and other members of the cast.

While we are still working on gleaning information from Famitsu’s write-up, early details translated by greatfernman provide some insight into the footage shown above.

Izanami’s gameplay revolves around a unique float mechanic, which replaces her double jump and is described in similar terms to Zato-1’s flight in Guilty Gear Xrd, and mode shifting. Upon activating her “Yasakani no Magatama” unit, the newcomer gains a brand new collection of attacks but loses the ability to block.

Hades Izanami will become playable when BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s ‘Act2’ update arrives in arcades on January 28.

Combofiend Opens Up About Street Fighter V’s Roster Selections

It’s been said time and time again that much of a fighting game’s success hinges on its playable cast. With Street Fighter V, Capcom will provide a mixture of old-school world warriors, more obscure returning characters, and newcomers to check out, but why exactly did they choose Birdie or Karin over, say, Sagat?

Associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas recently sat down with Paste to discuss development on Street Fighter V’s roster, how characters were chosen, and possibilities in the upcoming game’s future.

Fans should be happy to hear that popularity isn’t the only deciding factor when it comes to choosing Street Fighter V cast members. While a public outpouring of support from the community certainly helps, Capcom also looks for characters that “add spice to the overall flow of the game.”

Returning to our previous examples, Rosas explains that both Birdie and Karin had a wealth of potential heading into development due to their relatively limited appearances prior to Street Fighter V. “Although [Birdie] has a lot of similar attacks from his Street Fighter Alpha incarnation, he also has a new chain throw (amongst other moves), which adds an entirely new spacing dimension to the character that was previously lacking.”

Diversity has also been kicked up a notch thanks to debutants like Rashid and Laura, who provide Middle Eastern and Brazilian jiu-jitsu representation respectively, and the fighting game community shouldn’t expect that to end anytime soon. Rosas mentions that the development team is specifically looking for regions and fighting styles that have yet to be featured in the Street Fighter franchise as they move forward.

[UPDATE] Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Console Launch Scheduled for May 26, Kum Haehyun Joins Cast

While many of us expected Dizzy to be the next character added to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- due to her success in last year’s fan vote, developer Arc System Works has faked us out by announcing a brand new cast member: Kum Haehyun.

Haehyun first appeared in the updated -REVELATOR- storyline as the hulking, elderly man seen in the scan below, but her true form can be seen in the lower-right of the first page. She apparently uses the outer costume during battle, and is described as utilizing moves that are easy to pull off.

Pokkén Tournament is Pokémon Tekken in Germany

Localization is a tricky thing. Even when you take translation out of the equation, there’s still the matter of making sure the text and content makes sense in the region for which you’re writing.

Earlier today, it was brought to our attention that one such localization was made for the German release of Pokkén Tournament. Various pieces of promotional material have revealed that the game will be dubbed Pokémon Tekken when it reaches the populous European nation.

As for why this change was made, it’s likely due to the title’s similarity to the German word for smallpox, pocken. Furthermore, previous reports have pointed out that pokken is the disease’s name in Dutch, so fans located in the Netherlands might see their version of the game adjusted in the same way.

And really, it certainly could have been worse. Pokkén was envisioned as a portmanteau of Pokémon and Tekken anyways, so the German title just makes the game’s inspirations more obvious.

Pokkén Tournament is set to launch for Wii U worldwide on March 18.
