Watch Street Fighter V’s M. Bison Become a Parrying Powerhouse

With the lowest walking speed in the game, the logical approach to besting M. Bison is to zone him out. Capcom kept that in mind, though, and equipped him with a V-Skill built to blow up fireballs.

But that isn’t all the V-Skill is good for. Perhaps due to the resulting animation upon absorbing plasma and answering with his own, it’s sometimes easy to forget that fireballs aren’t the only thing that Bison can parry. His V-Skill will absorb one hit of any description, even if it’s a limb. If you choose, you can even use Bison’s resulting thrown Psycho Power to confirm into extra damage.

Venom47–also known as VenomOfTuesday, one of the highest ranked Bison players on the CFN–has taken it upon himself to show us just how useful Bison’s V-Skill can be with his compilation of mid-match parries. To keep things interesting, he throws some invulnerable dashes for a bit of extra flavor.

Never before have Bison’s repeated cries of “Meaningless!” sounded so sweet.

Meet Machiavelli, One of Project M’s Pokémon Masters

Although the Project M Dev Team are no more, the PM community is still alive and kicking. They may not have the support of Nintendo, but event attendance suggests that they’re not willing to go down without a fight. Many of the players who still compete in a “dead game” (whatever that game may be) do so thanks to a genuine love for their scene and, in some cases, their characters.

One character that didn’t make the cut for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is Ivysaur, who appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as part of the Pokémon Trainer’s trio of characters, but lays claim to its very own unique character slot in PM. Ivysaur is a character with a plethora of options and moves that you won’t be seeing in Melee or Smash 4, and one of the players showing just how powerful and versatile Ivysaur can be goes by the name Machiavelli.

Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of him; YouTube channel The Balcony has you covered with this interview that not only introduces you to the man himself, but also gives you some details about his relationship with Project M. One highlight to watch out for is an explanation of how he found his main–no doubt it’s an experience that will resonate with some who have suffered a character crisis.

Do note that this video contains some NSFW language.

Get to Grips with Charizard’s High Stance in Pokkén Tournament

Despite its cute theme, Pokkén Tournament has plenty of mechanics in place to give those looking to master deep gameplay the option to get a leg up on the competition. One such mechanic is the stance system present in Duel Phase–a system Shofu explored a while back–but even though we know exactly what each stance does, there is still much to be said about how each of these stances can be applied in-game.

Enter gooberman220, who has hit the lab for everyone’s favorite fire lizard and has put together a comprehensive guide to making use of Charizard’s high stance. We already knew that it acts something like a parry for grabs and certain normal attacks, but this video explores the stance in greater detail, covering what moves can be parried for each character and even looking into whether or not the hits that are parried contribute to the phase shift system.

If you’re a fan Charizard in Pokkén Tournament, or just want to know whether or not your favorite move is able to stand against the dragon, check out the video below.

London Comic-Con to Host Playable Version of Tekken 7

Fans of the Tekken series aren’t strangers to waiting a while for console ports to land. To help ease the pain of waiting for the most recent entry in the series to make its way into our homes, Bandai Namco have made a big effort to travel the world with Tekken 7, allowing international players to get the chance to experience the newest installment firsthand at events like Wizard World. The game is even making an appearance at Evolution 2016 as a fully-fledged tournament game in full arcade cabinet style.

Tekken enthusiasts in the UK, however, have had to resign themselves to the long, lonely wait for the Tekken 7 console edition to be realized while gazing across the pond in envy. That’s all about to change though; Bandai Namco have announced that, for the first time in the UK, Tekken 7 will be playable at MCM London Comic-Con–set to take place May 27 to May 29–in all its arcade glory. Eager challengers for the King of Iron Fist title will finally be able to try it out for themselves, which should do something to ease the pain of knowing that a date has still not yet been announced for Tekken 7’s console release.

While there, players can also try out less traditional fighting game experiences including One Piece Burning Blood and Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.

Capcom Reports 1.4 Million Street Fighter V Copies Sold Since Launch

Our first comprehensive look at Street Fighter V’s market performance released recently in the form of Capcom’s financial report, which details sales up until March 31, 2016. The company hoped for Street Fighter V to achieve 2 million individual sales by the end of this period–as you can see in this presentation–but SFV fell short of that goal by more than 500,000 units. In spite of such shortcomings, the game has nevertheless been added to Capcom’s list of Platinum titles and currently sits at number 45 with 1.4 million units sold.

Capcom don’t seem to be particularly concerned at SFV’s failure to hit the sales target at the moment as, according to the report, “Street Fighter V (for PlayStation 4 and PC) remained a perennial favorite and maintained steady sales mainly overseas.” It has already proved more successful in its initial period of sales than some other Capcom fighting games did over their lifetime–among them Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3–and seems to be popular with the competitive community if the record-breaking registration numbers for Evolution 2016 are anything to go by.

Take a Minute to Catch Up on Street Fighter V’s Backstory

The fighting genre isn’t exactly known for its great storytelling. Even so, many of our favorite franchises have built deep archives of story and lore over the years. These stories may not always be the easiest to grasp, however, and that’s where LORE comes in. They’ve put together a video detailing the, well, lore, of Capcom’s Street Fighter series–in relation to Street Fighter V, that is. Their video breaks down the relationships between new and old characters alike, all in only a minute.

With Capcom promising the arrival of Street Fighter V’s story next month, there’s no time like the present to brush up on the motivations of your favorite characters and savor the anticipation of continuing Street Fighter V’s story when the content drops.

Celebrate Pokkén Tournament’s Pikachu with this Special Edition Controller

Late last month, word started spreading about an upcoming Pokkén Tournament controller sporting a Pikachu theme, but we’re only just learning that you won’t have to pay for one in Yen.

In form it’s exactly the same as a standard Pokkén pad, though the yellow shell and black highlights do plenty to set it apart from the crowd. It also features the silhouette of Pikachu himself. Do bear in mind that Pokkén controllers only work with Pokkén Tournament on the Wii U; they can’t even influence the main menu like a Pro Controller or Wiimote can.

If you’re itching to get your hands on this Pika powered pad you can head over to GameStop to get your fix. It’s exclusive to the retailer, so don’t expect to see it anywhere else. At this time, the controller is available for pre-order only and lists a late July release date. It currently shares its $29.99 price tag with the standard Hori Pokkén Tournament Pad.
