By the Power of Gaia! Marvelo Shares Some Storm Synergy in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Marvelo’s most recent combo video makes a strong argument for Storm’s viability in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. While the leader of the X-Men does see some tournament play, it’s typically only at the hands of those who have come to be known for using her, like Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong. That said, we already know that she pairs well with Wolverine and Akuma, so Marvelo moves on from that team composition rather quickly and goes on to show her synergy with a great number of other cast members.

The combos typically involve Storm opening up her target and then transferring things over to one of the game’s heavy hitters, like Doctor Strange or Doctor Doom. And really, what combo video would be complete without a hard tag into a corner combo from everyone’s favorite Latverian?

As a final note, good luck making it through this video without cracking a smile thanks to the wonderful soundtrack.

Link’s Bomb Trumping Makes Edge Guarding a Blast in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Yesterday, we featured a video from My Smash Corner that breaks down the strategic options tied to ledge punishing and the lack of invulnerability frames on a second ledge grab without first returning to the stage. My Smash Corner offered an incredible list of attacks that will connect with opponents hanging from the side of a stage, but one particularly interesting option for Link wasn’t directly covered.

This option, which comes from LordWilliam1234, makes use of a bomb, as well as Link’s z-air. It turns out that if Link is holding a bomb when he shoots out his grappling hook, he’ll drop the bomb at the same time the hook begins to extend. With proper spacing, this will allow Link a setup that pops opponents off the edge of the stage and right into the bomb. There are plenty of ways to follow this up, and the video covers a couple of good examples. Once opponents get wise to this trick, the mind games can begin.

Also note that this technology works with Toon Link, though his follow-ups are quite different.

Pick Up Some Knockdown Pressure Options for Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Dudley

The folks at Forbidden Tech TV have been hard at work coming up with a training regimen to up Dudley’s level of class a few notches–not that he needs to be any classier. Their newest videooffers up a healthy portion of options to train opponents to stop trying to do anything on their wake up against the tea-sipping scrapper.

The video covers things like how to effectively deal with reversal Dragon Punches after a knockdown, or those pesky fighters who do nothing but crouch tech on their wake up. Many of these setups lead into massive damage that will hopefully make opponents afraid to hit a button, which let’s Dudley do what he does best: get in there and do whatever he wants.

Keep it classy.

Alpharad’s Mario Montage Demonstrates the Power of the Cape in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Back in November, right around the time that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U hit the American market, we saw a few videos that focused on the frustrating and often hilarious aspects of Mario’s down special, F.L.U.D.D. Since the move doesn’t do much beyond give opponents a solid shove, it’s not always the easiest to use as a kill move. When paired with Mario’s side special, however, opponents don’t need to be knocked into upper or side blast zones, they simply need to attempt a predictable recovery.

Below, you’ll find a new video from Alpharad that follows the same sort of formula. While we can’t actually see the looks on the players’ faces as Mario spins them away from the stage with a slap of his cape, we can all venture a guess at what their expressions might be.

And if you prefer the purer capes-only approach, check out Alpharad’s other compilation.

Learn How to Bait Yun’s Shoulder in Ultra Street Fighter IV Like EG|Momochi

If you caught Shadowloo Showdown 6 a couple of weeks ago, chances are that you saw Evil Geniuses’ Momochi punish Kazunoko when he went for Yun’s signature shoulder to EX Red Focus cancel. When it hits, this combo allows Yun phenomenal comeback potential, but Momochi has shown that this move can be easily baited and punished to not only deny the skater a big chunk of damage, but to drain him of three bars of super meter as well.

In the video below, Jay Rego slows things down a bit to demonstrate how the exchange between these two titans played out. It seems that if Yun’s shoulder lands against Ken as a counter-hit, Ken gets pushed back so far that Yun’s Red Focus won’t connect. This allows Ken to do whatever he wants. Rego also shows some other methods of getting the shoulder to land as a counter-hit.

Of course, if Yun expects something like this, he has plenty of options that can turn the situation back in his favor if Ken gets overzealous, but hey, that’s what fighting games are all about right? Mindgames all the way down.

My Smash Corner Explores Ledge Punishes in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

The importance of proper edge guarding techniques in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U–as well as any other title in the series–cannot be stressed enough. There are lots of ways to capitalize on this situation, and it’s good to have plenty in mind to cover all of your opponent’s recovery options to maintain stage control and perhaps score a stock advantage.

In his newest video, My Smash Corner looks at how to take advantage of situations where opponents grab the ledge, release, then grab the ledge a second time. Since there are no invulnerability frames on that second grab (assuming they don’t get back on stage between grabs), many characters can be hit with down smashes or various combo starters while dangling just above death.

Since many opponents won’t be prone to grabbing the ledge a second time, My Smash Corner covers the concept of ledge trumping and how to use it to force opponents into these situations.

Be sure to check out the video’s description for a list of applicable attacks.

Brush Up on Some Okizeme Options in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Since there are so many options available after knocking down an opponent in Ultra Street Fighter IV, it’s easy, and quite common, to pick a few of those options and rotate through them as you see fit. Okizeme comes down to training opponents to do what you want them to do–or at least to expect something out of you–so that you can open them up for massive damage. The more tricks that you have up your sleeve, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to turn situations in your favor.

ShoryuSengan recently put together a video as a sort of okizeme primer that shows many, many options that the player applying pressure has to throw around. While primarily centered around some situations that are specific to Ken as far as timing is concerned, the general ideas and a few of the setups themselves apply across the entire roster. These options include meaty attacks, delaying crouch techs, and plenty more.

If you’re struggling with what to do when you score a knockdown, or if you just want to make sure you’ve got everything on lock, check out the video below.

Forget Valentine’s Day, Help Ken Masters Celebrate His Fiftieth Birthday Instead!

KenIntroSMALL

February 14 holds a very special meaning to many of us, and with all the chocolate hearts and kitschy teddy bears out there, it’s easy to lose focus on what’s really important. As some of you may know, there’s much more to this day, because ladies and gentlemen, today is Ken Masters’ birthday.

That’s right, the blonde bad boy that offered so many of us an introduction to not only Street Fighter, but an entire genre, has been chucking plasma and lighting things on fire with his rising fist for fifty entire years. The most amazing thing about Ken hitting the half century mark may be the fact that, even in high definition, he doesn’t show a single sign of aging.

So whether you’re hitting the town tonight with that special someone or spending the evening curled up with a cup or Earl Grey and a mystery novel like every other Saturday night, be sure to take a moment to raise a Shoryuken to the sky in honor of Mr. Masters.

Here’s to fifty more.

Protect the Sky from Juri’s Fuhajin in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Plenty of attacks and maneuvers in Ultra Street Fighter IV leave the character performing them in aerial frames. Many of these are easy to guess: jumping (no kidding, right?), back dashing, tossing out a Shoryuken, the list goes on and on. But there are some attacks that cause an aerial state when the character in question is firmly planted on the ground, winding up the attack.

One such move that falls into this category is Juri’s fireball, the Fuhajin.

Upon the release of the fireball, Juri enters aerial frames for a brief moment, but it’s just long enough for some incredibly potent anti-air attacks to scoop her up off of the ground. A couple of the most obvious ways to take advantage of this information can be found in the video below.

Mortal Kombat X’s Kombat Pack to Include Fifteen Alternate Costumes

mkx-subzero-portrait-622-crop

As with its 2011 predecessor, Mortal Kombat X will launch aside a season pass-style downloadable content option dubbed the Kombat Pack. While all of the details surrounding it aren’t set in stone, NetherRealm Studios executive producer Shaun Himmerick hopped on Twitter earlier this week to disclose that the pack will include four characters and five skin packs, which totals to a whopping fifteen skins.

He went on to say that some of the skins included in these packs are among his favorites in the game, which shows promise that they’ll be exciting to get our hands on.

If you want to go ahead and pre-pay for a access to the PC version of the Kombat Pack once the game hits the internet, you can do so now for $30 via Steam.
