Reversals can cause problems when it comes to keeping pressure applied to downed opponents. Luckily for Abel players, Anon823 has found a timing that allows the fighter a bit more freedom to pressure than he previously had. In most cases involving a dragon punch, this setup causes Abel’s cross-up j.MK to clip the defender in the back on their way up. Sometimes it whiffs, but, in the case of mashing and lots of other wakeup options in the game, Abel won’t be harmed for throwing it out from time to time.
The setup isn’t perfect, however. It does afford Abel a relatively safe pressure option against a great deal of the cast, but it still loses to moves like Hakan’s Ultra 2, Blanka’s Ultra 2, and Hugo’s EX Shootdown Back Breaker. Late uppercuts and delayed wakeup can cause problems as well, but no setup is perfect, so there’s plenty of reason for Abel players to keep this in mind to throw out a few times over the course of a long set.
Perhaps the best part of this video is the no-filler approach that Anon823 takes with the editing. As such, it’s a quick, easy watch.
