Mr. Wright Protects Onett in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Combo Video

As his handle suggests, NT|Mr. Wright is perhaps best known for his Phoenix Wright play in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. His innovative approach to the courtroom combatant resulted in plenty of videos including, but certainly not limited to, an impressive display of meterless, non-X-factor combos that top out over one million damage each. To say that he knows his way around a gavel would be a bit of an understatement.

But it seems that Mr. Wright has temporarily traded in the gavel for a baseball bat to deliver a different kind of justice. In the video below, Mr. Wright’s Ness hits the mean streets of Smashville to show off his skills through an impressive display of PK Thunder mind games, jab lock combos, and everything else we’ve come to expect from Smash exhibitions.

If you’re a fan of Ness, you won’t want to miss it.

Learn About the Head of Shadowloo in Capcom UK’s World Warrior Series

The newest episode of Capcom UK’s World Warriors series, which highlights the psycho power-sporting M. Bison, comes at the perfect time to celebrate his inclusion in the Street Fighter V cast.

Capcom UK loaded the video with footage featuring the man in red doling out double knee presses of (in)justice across a host of Street Fighter titles, but don’t expect top-level play. They’ve also included plenty of cutscenes from across  series to help detail the Shadowloo leader’s mysterious background.

With such an eventful past, it’s easy to see why Bison now sports a head full of grey hair; being a dictator isn’t exactly stress-free.

Sajam Discusses Options for Dealing with High-Hitting Wakeup Attacks in Mortal Kombat X

In a game so reliant on beginning and maintaining pressure, players of Mortal Kombat X need to know when to respect their opponent’s wakeup options so that they can keep pressing their advantage with (sometimes) never-ending 50/50 okizeme. Reading a wakeup attack and blocking it is great, but even if the blocked attack leaves its owner at massive disadvantage, it can still be impossible to punish under the right circumstances.

In the video below, Sajam explores a couple of Raiden’s wake up options that, on top of being armored, hit high. Since high attacks only connect with standing targets and crouching targets who have opted to hold block, players can simply duck these attacks and even stick out a low-hitting limb without fear of being struck. Ducking also keeps the would-be defender out of blockstun and in close proximity to their target, therefore allowing punishes that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible.

Employing this strategy requires a precise knowledge of the options that each character possesses. For example, while the options that Sajam shows do hit high, Raiden’s Electric Fly–which can also be given armor–hits mid. So, just like most things in the fighting genre, this isn’t an answer to every situation, but it is one more trick to keep in mind to keep the pace of the battle in your favor.

Rustymarko’s Vega Returns to Olympic Gaming’s Street Fighter IV Spotlight Series

About a year ago, Olympic Gaming dedicated an episode of their Street Fighter IV (at the time, Arcade Edition ver. 2012) player spotlight series to Arizona’s Marko “Rustymarko” Valdez. This top-notch Vega player made such an impression with his last performance that he’s been given a second highlight reel.

Marko starts out this sophomore segment with a tough round against a Makoto player who ends up getting the best of him, but it seems that that first round was merely an opportunity for Marko to download his opponent and use that knowledge against them in the coming rounds. He is able to turn it around with an impressive combination of perfect spacing and reads. Marko goes on to run through a handful of other top-ranked online warriors in a performance that you won’t want to miss.

As always, you can check out a short interview with Marko in the video’s description.

Let’s Rock! Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R Launches on Steam

If you’re looking to expand your library of PC fighting games, you definitely can’t go wrong with Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, which just arrived on Steam. As a relatively old title, however, some of you may be going in blind, which is where a helpful round of tutorials come in.

Back around the time the Arc System Works title hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Novril and Carlos “Specs” Alexandre began recording an ambitious video series that they called Guilty Bits. The series, which is now complete, dedicated a single video to each of the game’s 25 characters covering general strategies, important moves, and character-specific oddities that make the characters who they are–like how to properly use negative edging when playing Eddie.

We featured the whole run of this series as the videos released, but the fact that Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R just made its way to Steam moments ago makes this the perfect time to revisit them. Whether you’re new to the series, new to this iteration of the game, or simply want a quick refresher on the more important aspects of your chosen character, these videos are a decent place to get started.

Below, we’ve embedded the first Guilty Bits episode, which features Eddie, but you can check out the full series by heading over to Novril’s channel.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is now available on Steam for $13.49, a sale that will last until June 2 when the game returns to its normal $14.99 price.

The Xbox One is certainly not without its merits–Killer Instinct comes to mind–but when it comes to accessing the most complete catalog of current generation fighting titles while also preparing for future releases, Sony’s PlayStation 4 offers the most bang for your buck.

Capcom has already stated that the upcoming Street Fighter V will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PC at the time of launch. Tack on Ultra Street Fighter IV’s recent addition to the Playstation Network, the upcoming release of Skullgirls 2nd Encore, and the (currently) PlayStation-exclusive Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, and there are more than a couple of reasons for fighting fans to jump on the Sony bandwagon.

Those currently in the market for a PlayStation 4 will be pleased to know that Amazon recently began bundling the console with a free year of PlayStation Plus, a $50 value by itself. Sadly, the system’s $399.99 price point hasn’t changed, but a full year of free online fights is not to be ignored.

This free year of PlayStation Plus will only be available today and tomorrow, so act fast.

Alpharad Fights for His Friends in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Alpharad is back with another episode of his Super Smash Bros. for Wii U How to Play series, this time turning the spotlight on Ike.

To officially kick things off, Alpharad, as usual, styles on a Little Mac player, but this time it’s a bit different. Usually, the to-be-featured Mac at least poses enough of a threat to warrant throwing up a shield as he’s barreling across the stage. Not this time. No, Alpharad just stands perfectly still and let’s the pink hoodie-wearing boxer do himself in with a complete whiff that sends him sailing over the side of the stage to a first stock loss in under ten seconds.

Then the actual Ike play gets going, and there’s lots to see. With the massive hitboxes on some of his animations, the ability to hold his neutral B for as long as he can, and the fact that he has a counter make for some great plays that live up to the How to Play name. And, as usual, you can expect plenty of Alpharad’s text-based humor to pop up as well.
