The European version of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle has a release date, a beta, and a different Collector’s Edition

European lads and ladies, there’s finally confirmation for your side of the ocean when it comes to BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Up until now, we’ve only heard that the game is getting a release “sometime in June,” but retailer Rice Digital broke the news today on several matters. The crossover game will be available in Europe on June 22nd.

That’s not everything, however. As pictured above, Rice Digital also announced a Collector’s Edition of the game that’s specific to the region. The Phantom Field Edition (available for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for £79.99) includes:

  • A copy of the game
  • An Official artbook
  • An Official Soundtrack CD
  • A premium poster set of 4 characters in a protective box
  • A high-quality messenger bag

The posters and the bag are different from the US BBTAG Limited Edition bundle.

Additionally, although we knew Europe is getting an offline BBTAG beta, Rice Digital revealed that starting today, there is an online beta for the game until midnight of May 20th (the time zone wasn’t specified, but they are based in the UK). After that, the demo will return to a limited, four-character state.

Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman is working on a book about his life and Super Smash Bros.

The story of a man who became a king and rose to become a Super Smash Bros. god.

Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, one of the five Super Smash Bros. “gods”, has had a few exciting developments recently. He’s coming off a huge win at Beyond the Summit, an invitational that included 16 most skilled players. The Smash legend could barely believe that he had won.

Last week, Mew2King announced a personal project that he’s been working on for over a year. The project is an autobiography, covering his early life, his journey into his teens and the foray into gaming, leading up to the present. In the announcement video, Zimmerman states that the first draft is about 400 pages. A release window is currently not planned.

This could be a great highlight of a big personality in the Smash scene. The closest book to this kind is probably Daigo Umehara’s The Will to Keep Winning. We’re looking forward to the insight contained in Mew2King’s future work!

BornFree interviews Lord Knight, the anime fighter extraordinaire

Having recently visited Next Level, New York City’s premiere fighting game meetup spot, BornFree took the opportunity to interview several of their mainstays. One of the must-talk-to folks there is Lord Knight, a premiere anime fighting game player who has mastered several games, consistently places high at many events, and regularly produces content.

His name comes from his obsession with Fire Emblem, one of his favorite games of all time. Over the years, Lord Knight became famous for his performance in many anime games, even though he started in the Super Smash Bros. community. He discovered a lot of tech in games from the BlazBlue and Persona series. The conversation focuses on Dragon Ball FighterZ, which is Lord Knight’s main game currently. BornFree asks LK to compare his old team (Android 18, Kid Buu, Frieza) to his current one (Kid Buu, Cell, Android 16). Then, they turn to talking about the ramifications of the latest DBFZ balance patch, which, in LK’s opinion, is not as drastic as some make it out to be.

Check out the conversation below — and also take a look at BornFree’s interview with WongNation|LostSoul and HookGangGawd.

Special trailer from Rooster Teeth highlights all four members of team RWBY in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

If you haven’t heard of RWBY, it’s an animated show made by Rooster Teeth with four female protagonists. Team RWBY is composed of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladona, and Yang Xiao Long. A special BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle trailer from the company highlights the guest characters, and some of the game’s features.

The trailer shows off each member — narrated by all the original actresses from the show. Ruby Rose mentions the accessible control scheme of the game, Episode Mode with an original storyline (fully-voiced in English as well), and online play. The online lobby avatars are also customizable, and can use a variety of emotes.

I personally started watching the show last Fall; all the episodes are freely available on the Rooster Teeth YouTube channel. Though the graphics aren’t great at first (they improve over the seasons), the fight scenes are amazing. The collaboration has turned out very well!

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is set to launch May 29th in Japan, June 5th in the Americas, and at a later date in Europe. For more on the game, check out our latest BBTAG roundup, as well as some news on another BBTAG datamining leak.

The Hadou guest stars on the Best of V Show and discusses Combo Breaker 2018 entrants

Combo Breaker 2018 is approaching us. In just a little under two weeks, the biggest FGC tournament in the Midwest region will reveal new champions, rivals, and opportunities. The Twitch show dedicated to fighting games, “Best of V,” took the opportunity to bring the main person responsible for the event under the microphone.

The guys start out by talking about the final registration numbers for Combo Breaker.

They point out that Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V have a high number of unique attendants — that is, people who are registered solely for those games. On the other hand, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike has two people coming exclusively to compete in it. They also mention a pretty high number for Mortal Kombat 9, the game that brought the Hadou into the FGC.

A notable announcement occurred with Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]. The Hadou revealed that there will be a special 4 vs. 4 exhibition that will take place on the main stage and on stream.

Other than that, the participants continued to discuss how Combo Breaker serves the FGC, catering to all kinds of players, continuing the tradition of certain events like the Mystery Game Tournament. The Hadou’s ultimate advice to other tournament organizers? “Make your staff bigger.”

Check out Ragna and Jin combos & Ruby mix-ups in this fresh BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle roundup

Though the online beta test has ended for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, players can continue to practice either in a limited four-character trial version, or the 20-character demo if they pre-ordered the game. The results impress more by the day, as users around the world discover extremely flashy combinations and innovative team plays.

Starting out with the basics, take a look at how much damage you can do with Ragna and Jin solo. While teamwork is important, it’s also key to know individual combos in the game. Of course, you have to spend increasing amounts of super meter to extend the combos and increase the damage.

Here’s a quick example of how Ruby can mix-up the opponent by calling in an assist but crossing up with her speedy teleports.

The above combo is a seriously impressive sequence from Ruby and Weiss that shows how well Arc System Works translated the anime into 2D fighting game action.

Have you been wondering about Weiss’s seals? Here’s how to use them for a corner mix-up and a flashy combo.

Over on OpenRec TV, Dora, the famous Bang player, posted a video about Hazama and Nu-13 synergy. Head over to that site to watch it.

Datamining of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle announcer voice reveals possible Senran Kagura guest characters

Datamining has revealed even more cast information from BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Digging through the voice clips of the game opened up another unexpected surprise: it appears that Arc System Works may be planning on guest-starring characters from yet another franchise in their crossover game: Senran Kagura‘s Asuka and Yumi.

Around the 4-minute mark, the announcer gets into characters. We can hear her say “Nine the Phantom,” Izaoyi,” “Mai Natsume,” in the BlazBlue character section. Next, she says “Labrys,” “Mitsuru Kirijio,” and “Akihiko Sanada” when she hits upon the Persona characters. Then, the Under Night section brings up Merkava, Yuzuriha, and Mika. After the RWBY characters, she says “Asuka” and “Yumi.” There’s also an “Unknown,” possibly for a boss character?

Given the previous evidence from the Nintendo Switch BBTAG datamining, there’s more and more confirmation for the final nine DLC characters. It seems like only a flat denial from Arc System Works could unravel this, but the company has not commented on the leaks… yet. BlazBlue: Central Fiction‘s Jubei was leaked in a similar way, through the announcer files.

There was no evidence, however, of Asuka and Yumi in the game’s text files, according to OtherEhm — the one who found the names of the remaining cast members in the beta’s game files.

Core-A Gaming looks into how Qudans and Jeonnding became household Tekken 7 names

Few people play Tekken as well as the Korean community. Although StarCraft is certainly a popular esport there, Bandai Namco’s fighter has found a lot of appreciation. Core-A Gaming raises awareness about this country by highlighting two world-class competitors: UYU|Qudans and UYU|Jeonnding.

The video ventures deep into their storied past, which starts with Jeonnding talking about competing in the first StarCraft game in his early years. However, he quit, and started to play the 3D fighter just for fun, as a hobby. As for Qudans — who found his name by converting Korean characters on the keyboard — he made his name in 2005 by winning the Evolution Championship. Both players talk quite a bit about the generally unfavorable stereotypes surrounding gamers, and they consciously make effort to “erase that image.”

Check out the informative video below for an insightful look into some of the best Tekken 7 players in the world.

Hilarious BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle beta bug lets you fight with two characters together

The online beta for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle just ended, but there is still online access. Given the unfinished state of the game, players are bound to run into bugs here and there. Maybe it’s no surprise that it was PG|SKD who found one of the most game-breaking ones.

As presented in the clip below, SKD was able to bring both Ruby and Es onto the screen and truly tag team the opponent with a barrage of attacks. The second character stays on the screen, and receives the same inputs as the main character.

He explains the bug in this thread, and posts some more examples:

Here’s also a Japanese player triggering the same bug, but with the biggest characters available in the game:

There will be four-player controls in the game, so maybe Arc System Works might as well make this bug a playable mode in the vein of Guilty Gear Isuka. I would play it!

Recently, datamining has revealed the remaining possible BBTAG DLC characters.
