This Japanese BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle system primer video covers everything you need to know

The BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle beta is upon us; those who pre-order are able to play the game today. For some, it will be the first time they had a chance to play the tag crossover game, even though it has been available at certain GameStop stores and events. To that end, Curry Roo has offered an excellent system overview of the game.

Although it’s in Japanese, it’s still an excellent system primer that goes over all the general mechanics of the game. The overview begins with an explanation of movement. Note that pressing forward dashes automatically. We switch to the main buttons, which are an ABCD system. A and B attacks can autocombo, and C is the Crash Assault overhead strike. The D button tags the partner.

If you’re more curious about partner attacks, that’s the P button (R1 on controllers). Everyone has three different assist attacks, which can be done by combining P with either direction or none. BBTAG has a few system mechanics that utilized by pressing two buttons at once. Throw by pressing B+C, and A+D is a universal Dragon Punch move, which can be done in the air as well as in combos. Note that if the opponent punishes your DP, you won’t be able to use a partner assist to bust you out.

As for special moves, 236 or 214 with A and B cover most inputs in the game. Some characters have 22 inputs as well. Pressing C unleashes the EX version of the special move which costs one bar. Super moves are done similarly but with B+C inputs instead. By simply pressing P during a super of the main character, the next character will tag in and perform their Distortion Drive. There’s no traditional Bursting in the game, however, in certain situations, your partner can step in to save your character if you press P+D.

Dial your opponent’s number with these 20 Tekken 7 Noctis tips and tricks

Noctis was released not too long ago, so although many players have grasped his general gameplay flow, it’s time to dig a little bit deeper. LiangHuBBB has been hard at work creating a robust tutorial video that covers setups and combos with the Final Fantasy XV protagonist.

The video starts out by pointing out safe moves on block, f, f+1+2 and u/f+1. They’re easy ways to catch the opponent pressing buttons and will start a combo on counter-hit. Another good move to use in pressure is wr 1+2, which is a launcher that’s +11 frames on block. It’s a little slow to come out, but it avoids sweeps. Switch things up with d/b+1+2, which is very negative on block (-16), but it causes significant pushback, which may cause the opponent to whiff their punish.

Check out the rest of the tips in the video below, which are demonstrated in gameplay demos in between the text explanations.

Tune up your ninjutsu skills with this Bang Shishigami combo tutorial video

Have no fear, for the Japanese ninja, Bang Shishigami is here! Bang is one of the original BlazBlue characters, hailing all the way from 2008’s Calamity Trigger. Though he isn’t a very popular character in Central Fiction, he still remains a unique and complex character with very cool ninja tricks.

Hentaitop is back with a new combo collections video covering Bang. As usual, their videos start out with a few informative screens that explain his moves. There are a few layers to him involving resources. He gains Seals with his Drive, which unlock special skills for his Overdrive as well as give him access to a new Distortion Drive should he have all of them. He spends Nails whenever he uses different types of projectiles either for neutral or in combos. The video starts out with more basic combos that take advantage of such resources. The variety of combos covers midscreen and corner techniques from many starters, including throw. And as always, the latter combos in video increase in complexity and incorporate Overdrive and Rapid Cancels.

Check it out below, and also take a look at Hibiki CF combos for different style of ninjutsu.

Esports team OG steps into Super Smash Bros. by signing Swedish Delight

Team OG is making a significant step away from its current strategy. The Red Bull-owned esports team has been focused on Dota 2 till now, but their latest foray steps into fighting game territory. Recently, the team announced the signing of James “Swedish Delight” Liu as their first Super Smash Bros. player.

“In 2015, OG was found on an intense passion and vision for Dota 2 with a competitive drive and unwillingness to take shortcuts on the road to victory,” the team wrote on their Facebook page. “Since then, the OG family has grown and gathered many sweet memories from tournament successes to the smiles, laughs, and chants of our faithful fans. Today, we reforge the same.”

OG|Swedish Delight has been busy with Smash Summit 6 this past weekend, and he will also soon play at Get On My Level 2018 in Canada, later in May.

Markedly, this signing from OG could be a pivot that’s ahead of the curve in anticipation for the Nintendo Switch version of Smash.

Catch some Blake footage and full movelist rundown from the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle tournaments at KSB 2018

KSB (KVO x TSB) 2018 took place in Japan last weekend, a fusion of Japanese and American efforts in the fighting game scene, and one of the main attractions was the latest build of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. It featured a few fighters from one of the Character Packs — Kanji, Platinum, and Orie, along with the RWBY member Blake.

Although we’ve seen a gameplay overview of Blake, we haven’t really had a chance to get many impressions of her. Thankfully, KSB attendee, Rurouni, was there to experiment with the character. Their BBTAG Blake overview is a fairly in-depth guide of her abilities and normal attacks. She has some very good pokes, and her jC attack is very interesting: it’s a type of a teleport, blink-strike (which, story-wise, is consistent with her skills, which also include shadow clones). Some of her special attacks, translated as “Shadow Kick,” “Shadow Pounce,” and “Shadow Trick,” have multiple follow-ups which can be done even on whiff. She can also make three types of clones, Stone, Shadow, and Fire. The first one blocks an attack, the second masks her movements a little (some properties may not be discovered yet) and the last one is an explosive EX version of the move.

Check out a picture captured by St1ckBuG of Blake’s movelist, and review the action below from KSB to see Blake as well as other fighters in action. The BBTAG beta starts on Wednesday for those who pre-order the game from PSN.

Should you play Bullet, BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s rushdown grappler?

BlazBlue: Central Fiction‘s Bullet hasn’t had an easy road in the game. She was never considered a strong character, and for some reason, she seemed even weaker than usual in 1.0 Central Fiction. However, the 2.0 patch tuned her quite a bit, and if you haven’t considered playing her before, or just don’t know much about her, Apolo’s latest video should help out.

Apolo made a video before about Bullet 2.0 patch changes, which included significant buffs. If you’re really interested in her as a character, don’t be discouraged by tier lists, especially now. Though Bullet does struggle with many characters in the game, in particularly zoners who can keep her out, she can dish out pretty intense pressure, particularly when she has a chance to get fired up. She also has some good normal attacks, particularly jump C, which is commonly used to set up safe jump pressure.

Check out the instructional video below that lays out her strengths and weaknesses; if you’d rather switch gears, the creator also recently covered Dizzy’s pros and cons in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Collector’s Edition is now available to pre-order exclusively through Arc System Works

If you’re set on BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, get your wallets ready. For those who appreciate physical goodies, the Collector’s Edition of the game is now officially available to pre-order. This special edition is available exclusively through Arc System Works’ store for now, and later it will also be available through the Rooster Teeth store.

Here’s what this PlayStation 4 special edition of BBTAG comes with:

  • 4 acrylic figures featuring BlazBlue’s Ragna, Persona’s Yu, Under Night In-Birth’s Hyde, and RWBY‘s Ruby.
  • Full color, 52-page art book
  • 15 song soundtrack
  • BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle steel game case
  • Collector’s Edition Box

Note: The Collector’s Edition does not include additional DLC or characters packs that will be available later.

This edition stands at $99.99, and it’s not available at other stores such as Amazon. This edition is available for pre-ordering only (unless somehow ASW doesn’t sell their full stock). Unfortunately, this version doesn’t count as a PSN pre-order, so that means that the BBTAG beta will start for these players on May 12th and the demo will be a more limited version post the beta period.

The Nintendo Switch version of BBTAG is also available for pre-order; both Collector’s Editions are the same. The game is still on track to release on June 5th in America and May 29th in Japan.

Tutorial video gives an overview of Dizzy’s strengths and weaknesses in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Dizzy’s popularity has been proven in Guilty Gear, when she won the character popularity poll that inclined Arc System Works to put her into the Xrd series. Though she isn’t played as often, she certainly has a cult following built around her fanciful appearance: centered around an interplay of light and shadow, ice and fire. If you’ve ever wondered if she’s the right character for you in Xrd REV 2, Apolo Loussalier’s video might convince you.

At heart, Dizzy is a zoner who is actually surprisingly mobile, especially thanks to her double air-dash. This lets her quickly retreat and advance on the battlefield as well as lead an offense in unexpected ways. When paired up with her summons and projectiles, the air-dashes can lead to powerful mix-up and cross-ups. Her normal attacks have good range but tend to be on the slower side. Her gameplan revolves around knocking the opponent down (her throw, which allows comboing, is a great way to accomplish that) and sending ice and fire spears at them, coupling with her frozen fish attacks.

Check out a breakdown of her special moves and more in the video below, and if you were curious about a different character, the author also made a video about Ramlethal’s pros and cons.
