One of the new additions to Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Answer, is proving to be a handful. With so many mix-up options, the quirky Business Ninja can inflict a headache on an unsuspecting opponent, but only if the player has explored Answer’s plethora of set-ups.
GodPress has been busy compiling excellent tutorial videos which show a lot of in-depth aspects of the character. Check out some of the selections below to learn more about what Answer has in store.
Here’s a combo into a knockdown which leads into a cross-up, followed by a damaging combo:
Exploring some corner cross-ups:
Beware jD counter-hits from Answer, as it confirms into a ton of damage:
Here are some pressure strings in the corner to build up the opponent’s RISC gauge, to then lead into huge damage. Very dangerous for the opponent if they don’t use Faultless Defense. GodPress provides explanatory notes and notation in the video below.
A really good video that shows how to “safe jump” and bypass practically every defensive/wake-up option that Sol Badguy has. Again, read the text in the video for more explanation:
Here’s one that probably many would like master: Answer’s super-jump instant air-dash combos. This compilation shows which characters it works on:

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-‘s Faust is designed to be the wackiest, zaniest character in the cast. An abnormal hurtbox coupled with surprisingly big normal attacks and random items. How do you fight someone who can summon a meteor shower if they get lucky, teleport by opening dimensional doors, and hit you from the ground up with a sunflower?
LordKnight starts his match-up guide with a quick definition of Faust. He explains a common misconception about Faust, who is often considered more of a zoning character due to his range and projectiles. However, Faust has plenty of rushdown and unpredictable mix-up options, which make him especially scary up close. LordKnight goes through his normal attacks, which are designed to control specific spaces. Then he moves on to explaining the properties of Faust’s repertoire of special items.
Whether you have trouble with Faust or are generally unfamiliar with the character, this is a great tutorial to gain some knowledge, which is also quite relevant for REV 2. Hopefully, that will ease the match-up a little bit. Or, I don’t know, just pick Sin.

Right after Texas Showdown this past weekend, two new fighting game players have joined the Fable GG squad with a sponsorship: the first is Keenan “Kizzie Kay” Kizzie, and the second player is Christian “Suicine Master” Patierno.
Kizzie Kay is famous for his Jin Kisaragi in BlazBlue: Central Fiction and Sin Kiske in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. This sponsorship comes right off a triumph at Texas Showdown over now-fellow Fable GG player Fable|KidViper, who also recently got signed on.
Suicune Master triumphed at the CEO 2016 in Pokkén Tournament, and scored 5th place at last year’s Evolution Championship.
Congratulations to both players; make sure to give them a follow on Twitter at @Kizzie_Kay310 and @SuicuneM.
Can’t stop, won’t stop, just like Ky Kiske’s corner pressure. But rather than seeing the King of Illyria battle again, we’re going to see some nasty mix-ups from Beautifuldude’s Zato=1 against Dekline’s big boy damage from Sin. The Super Steam Xrd Exhibition League continues with new Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- matches.
The other battle is between Ryyudo’s Faust and WindGodDude’s Millia Rage. Let’s learn first about Beautifuldude and Dekline.
Beautifuldude
On the match: “It’s pretty awesome to finally have a chance to play in SSXrd league! Even though the REV 2 demo is currently out, I still feel like I can show a bunch of cool REV 1 Zato stuff in this exhibition match with Dekline. I hope I’ll be able to win, but I know it’ll be a good time regardless of the result!”
On his opponent: “Dekline is a cool dude with lots of Zato experience he acquired by playing his fellow Nebraska bro David Cue, so I’m sure it will not be easy for me to take him down in the slightest. His strong showing at Texas Showdown with Sin proves that he’s not gonna be an easy opponent for me! Also, Dekline is a fellow Mario Party player, so his fortitude has been tried and tested by the rigors of that evil game.”
On his own playstyle: “I would describe my playstyle as DEADMAN’S HAND AT ALL TIMES. If there’s a will, then there’s a DMH setup! In all seriousness, I like to play puppet characters! Not only do I play Zato in Guilty Gear, but I also play Relius Clover in BlazBlue: Central Fiction, who plays somewhat similarly to Zato. I usually play these characters in a somewhat defensive style, as I feel like I can force my opponent to make a bad decision through their oppressive neutral options, then run my game once I get the knockdown.”
Dekline
On the match: “I think it’s a pretty cool idea. It’s nice to be able to have a “serious” set outside of an actual tournament. It also helps promote the game.”
On his opponent: “He’s a solid player. I’ve only played him a few times though, we just don’t seem to run into each other much.”
On his own playstyle: “I think I’m more of a reactive player. I try to feel out my opponent and see what they do and don’t know about a match up, then play around that instead of having a specific game plan.”
Ryyudo
On the match: “Honestly, as much as I want to win, I don’t fully expect to; Millia is a strugglebus for Faust. I felt it was a matchup I understood better with my recent growth as a player… until Northwest Majors where WindGodDude cleaned my clock, putting me in 9th. Talk about a wake-up call! I’m excited for the opportunity to play WindGodDude again! It’s given me motivation to study one of Faust’s hardest match-ups. Our local Millia hadn’t pushed me to learn and LordKnight, the other Millia I’ve played a few times, was far beyond my understanding months ago. Subconsciously, I feel I was waiting for an opportunity to find the next foothold to step up to, and that this is it.”
On his opponent: “His movement is polished, he plays intelligently safe, and his understanding of his and his opponents’ options is well-versed. If he gets started, that round will end quickly for me. I think the biggest miss was not introducing myself after Northwest Majors. He seems nice, and it would’ve been nice to play him after the event, regardless of SSXrdEL, because I feel he would provide great insight.”
On his own playstyle: “I’d call it ‘compartmentalized.’ I have different ‘boxes’ I pull from, per situation, but I have a difficult time mixing up those options to stay unpredictable. As a whole, I appear all-around solid, but I feel once my opponent finds something that works, it takes me WAY too long to combat it because of that compartmentalizing, and I’m too slow at finding answers in a different box. It’s why I’ve begun taking lengthy water and snack breaks after every match, win or lose, at tournaments to give my brain time to search for answers. I plan to do the same here too… sorry stream monsters! <3.”
WindGodDude
On the match: “I see it as a nice way to say goodbye to Millia, considering that I am switching over to Johnny in REV 2. It’s also good practice to help me adapt over the course of a long set while under the pressure of an audience. Above all, I hope to have a good time.”
On his opponent: “I haven’t played too much with him, but I know his offense is strong so I have to make sure that my defense will be at least equal to match.”
On his own playstyle: “I aim to play solid and clean above all. I consider myself to be on the safer side of Millias, however, if the opponent shows patience to match, I don’t mind taking risks.”
It’s going to be interesting to see how those turn out, as it feels it could go either way. As usual, catch the action on Silva_hime’s Twitch channel tonight, starting at 9:30 PM EST/8:30 PM CST/6:30 PM PDT. RaphTx and SamiFish11 will get on the microphones this time.
On the last online Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- set, between DEB and BxA|dotNova, as well as Dead Spike and LTL, things got a little… interesting. While not everything went as planned, enjoy a few additional exhibitions, including an intense Potemkin mirror between the two ex-Potemkin users!
Recently, we’ve taken a quick look at Elphelt’s REV 2 changes, but there’s a lot more coming from Guilty Gear’s flagship bride. Her changes aren’t as easy to recognize, though. There’s still a way to set up the corner unblockable, and her 6P has gained some… interesting invulnerability.
First up, check out a couple more combos from The Prince:
Next, here’s a handy explanatory video about setting up the corner unblockable:
Jam players in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 should be happier than ever in the Xrd series. With a good set of buffs, Jam’s gameplay seems more coherent than ever before. It’s easier to get knockdowns, land the Parry combos, and her new double Puff Ball move is quite useful. Therefore, Jam is definitely emerging as a bigger threat in REV 2.
Taihot3 shows off a few creative combos in a compilation video. There’s a clever use of a Blitz Shield attack to charge a power-up card in the middle of a combo, a nice Burst bait from a Dust attack and big damage Overdrive finishes.
For even more combos, AKI TAK made a compilation of mostly more advanced corner combos:
You’re asking for Jam spreadsheets? Sway got your back. He made a chart that shows Parry P K follow-ups and how they work on every character:
It’s been a wild week for Guilty Gear fans, as KVO x TSB 2017 has seen players from all over Japan gather for one hell of a tournament. There’s so much high quality Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 play, as most top players showed up to represent a wide variety of characters. Don’t worry if you’re not a Japanese speaker, as the English commentary from Team Spooky has been a great way for Western fans to get acquainted with the new balance changes coming in REV 2.
First up, here’s the footage from the 3v3 tournament:
Ron captured most of the top 16 matches:
Next up, check out the hype top 8 and Grand Finals:
Bedman is one of those characters who can turn a match into a nightmare very quickly. Though he has very unconventional ways of moving and creating mix-up opportunities, the best Bedman players have a knack for creating terrifying, nearly inescapable corner pressure and convoluted mix-ups.
REV 2 changes Bedman quite a bit, so those who have the demo have only started to figure out the new tech. One of the many big changes is a new 6HS normal. Check out this compilation of video tweets to know what REV 2 Bedman has in store for you, or to apply the tech to your own repertoire.
That was a fine sampling of scary stuff, wasn’t it? Make sure to check out the respective Twitter timelines of each poster for even more terrifying Bedman stuff!
DreamHack Austin 2017 was an eventful tournament, especially for Street Fighter and Smash Bros. fans. However, there is some big news from Guilty Gear as well: the event’s big upset in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- happened at the Grand Finals.
From the video below, at the 3:05:00 mark, KidViper begins a grueling match against CO|Dogura, one of the best Japanese Guilty Gear players. Ultimately, KidViper manages to triumph and puts down both of Dogura’s characters, Raven and Sin, with his Johnny.
Now, whether KidViper was in the talks with esports team Fable already is unknown, but this victory couldn’t have hurt; he is now part of their fighting game roster, which includes Smash, Counter Strike, and Rainbow Six.
Secrets out! I am now representing @FableGG as their GG player!!!! #BeLegendary.
