Guilty Gear and BlazBlue Costumes Cross Over to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

It’s not the BlazBlue X Guilty Gear crossover fans have been dying for, and Litchi Faye-Ling isn’t making her way to the cast of Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. However, Arc System Works and Koei Tecmo are working in collaboration to bring costumes from the air-dashers to the realistic models in the close-quarters combat series.

According to Rice Digital, the new costumes are due in March. There will be 16 different costumes picked from BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. The inclusion of REV 2 specifically seems to point to the new characters included in the coming update, Baiken and Answer. Baiken particularly seems fitting for a Dead or Alive character (and she is on the promotional graphic, alongside most of the ladies from both games).

Screenshots are coming soon, and then we’ll know for sure which characters will invade Koei Tecmo’s game. Those who have a season pass should get this costume pack for free when it comes out.

Liked Bushido Blade? Make Chop Suey Out of Foes in “Slice Dice & Rice”

Ever thought that health bars in fighting games just aren’t… realistic? Fans of Divekick will surely appreciate this philosophy, but older players–who were active in the PSOne era–might feel some nostalgia stir up.

Slice Dice & Rice recently surfaced on Steam Greenlight. The stylized, dark aesthetic conveys the main mechanic of the game: quick and decisive duels that can end in one strike. Those who played Bushido Blade won’t be surprised that the classic SquareSoft fighting game is what exactly inspired the two-man team behind the project, Dojo Games.

“I played Bushido Blade a ton in the PSX era,” Marek Ziarko, game designer and programmer on the team, told SRK. “That’s where the inspiration came from, but the idea was also to see how indie fighting games can fare, and whether it’s possible to stir things up among 2D fighters.”

The Steam Greenlight page currently displays seven characters, though eight are planned. There’s a diverse selection of fighters with different weights and weapon types, from katanas, to fans, and a scythe. Across six stages, the cast will duke it out in Story, Versus, and Training Mode.

Slice Dice & Rice will offer a more approachable gameplay style where the player doesn’t have to memorize a command list. Rather, the game has a system of feints, and blows can interact in a variety of ways, with clashes and parries. There’s also dodging and air movement.

Refer to the Slice Dice & Rice Steam Greenlight page for more information, and view the trailer below to witness the bloody action.

Gameplay Impressions from the Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 Second Location Test

The second location test for Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is going on this weekend, and with it, there’s a new wave of fairly substantial changes for almost every character. The translated patch notes cover the mechanical nitty-gritty, and they have been officially provided by Arc System Works in Japanese. Most of the changes from the first location test still apply.

What’s interesting is that the changes, even if they are subtle, introduce new routes or even new styles of play entirely for some characters. For instance, Raven received somewhat of a makeover to his excitement mechanic that should affect his gameplan a lot. Now, most special moves increase his gauge, while using one of the Overdrives depletes it.

While taking footage of gameplay isn’t allowed at location tests, Japanese players tweet out their impressions which reveal intriguing implications that aren’t easy to see from patch notes alone. A few English speakers kindly have been translating the tweets.

Pretty big deal for Baiken, as not being able to YRC her counters has been a point of dispute for long.

Kuchinashi is the dragon-punch like counter that Baiken has. It seems that there’s a different way to perform Azami, which is the move she uses before her counters come out. Holding affects certain timings. And hey, good-sounding voice actresses are important too (Baiken’s in-game voice got added in this location test).

A lot of May’s special moves work a little bit differently, and Jam received a lot of big buffs alongside a few nerfs.

One of the more interesting changes in Faust’s toolset is the low probability of getting super versions of his items. The tweet indicates about how often you could expect that.

Sin’s combo flow is changing a lot, especially when deciding when to eat. jD is a new way to get an air knockdown, but since Sin will be still in the air, he won’t get that much time to get lunch. “I’m Sure I’ll Hit Something” is the stabby follow-up to Beak Driver.

The Raven changes, in particular, will alter playing the character a lot.

Sol and Ky have received new 6HS attacks. The combo properties of Sol’s seem very similar to his current 6HS, but no one can tell much about actual frame data.

That’s the majority of translated impressions at this time, though there are some more tweets if you want to check out @HiagoXYZ and @MurderofBears’ timelines.

Stay tuned to SRK for more Guilty Gear coverage.

Catch These Flaming Hot Hands from Roi’s and Hakken’s Sol Badguy in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

Guilty Gear -REVELATOR- introduced (and re-introduced!) a lot of new and familiar characters, but sometimes, it’s time for the flagship Queen fan to get the spotlight. Sol Badguy has been a mainstay of the series from the very beginning.

Below, here’s a batch of top-level Sol action straight from Japan. Roi and Hakken face a variety of opponents, so this is a great study to pick up new combos and learn various match-ups. It’s particularly worth it to check out the intense matches with Zadi’s Raven and Nage’s Faust.

Before you divekick into the videos, note that Sol and Hakken’s Tenkaichi Budokai matches are coming up this weekend. They will be broadcasted on Joniosan’s Mikado Twitch stream, on Friday (about 6:00 AM EST) and Saturday JST (about 4:00 AM EST).

Ryujin Your Way to Victory with This Amazing Jam Combo Video in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

The Chinese cook and kung-fu master fixes up sizzling new combos and parries hotter than steaming Asian buns. A new Jam Kuradoberi combo shows impressive and creative moves with stunning, top-notch video editing to boot.

Titled “Paradise Lost,” this Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- combo video is from none other than Teresa, a long-time Jam player, while editing is done by Hero P. Among the highly damaging combos is a sequence that’s a full-stage carry against Potemkin, an amazing parry montage, and a clash segment.

While combo videos often do showcase a high level of craftsmanship, the level seen in this video is rare. It’s a must-watch even for the sake of appreciating its editing, and to witness crazy Jam combos as well, of course.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction Appears on Steam Database

A Reddit user by the name of Danaiden_TP recently spotted something interesting: a Steam database website now lists the currently console-only BlazBlue: Central Fiction, the latest and possibly final entry in the fighting game franchise.

There’s nothing more known, other than that entry created several days ago. In a way, this is similar to finding a registered trademark of a title long before it’s announced. In this case, it’s not a big surprise that Central Fiction is listed, but there aren’t any release date hints from Arc System Works as of yet. However, this could point that a PC version of BBCF is coming sooner rather than later.

Judging by Arc System Works’ current strategy, the company is striving to bring its console and computer versions closer to parity, as seen by the recent port of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. While there aren’t many differences between console and PC versions of Guilty Gear–aside from expanded graphical options–users report a significantly better experience in PC Network Mode than on PlayStation Network. This very well could be the case with Central Fiction, though there is no GG cross-play between PC and PlayStation.

We’ll keep our eyes out for any more hints, and in the meantime, check out a Naoto combo video and some flashy BBCF clash movies.

UFC Fighter Angela Hill Pays Homage to Street Fighter’s Sagat During Weigh-In

Last Friday, the fight from the streets erupted onto the UFC weigh-in with a reference to an iconic character, Sagat.

Angela Hill, set to face against Jessica Andrade on Saturday, paid tribute to Street Fighter’s Sagat by mimicking the character and wearing an eye-patch. While most of the present company seemed to have missed the reference, the internet caught on fast:

Hill not only wore an eye-patch–which is a little risky, since any additional, needless clothes aren’t allowed due to a deal with outfitter Reebok–but also painted a scar on herself and imitated the King of Muay Thai’s poses spot-on.

An avid gamer and cosplay enthusiast, Hill enjoys portraying various video game personalities. She has dressed up as a vault dweller from Fallout and Dhalsim, among others. Kotaku recently ran a profile on Hill that talks about her passions in more detail.
