The Black Desert Online team has posted a short notice to players that the game will be down for maintenance on Wednesday, March 23rd for approximately eight hours during which network improvements in bandwidth and latency will be addressed. This downtime also includes the forum and website.

The Korean version of Black Desert Online will be updated on March 24th with the Vakyrie awakened weapon. To show off how impressive this looks and performs, the team has released a new video that you can check out below and dream of the day it arrives in the EU/NA version of Black Desert Online.

Some friends and I were discussing Black Desert Online earlier this week and we eventually began to chat about the wider genre and how, seemingly, many people have grown tired of the typical formulae surrounding “theme parks”. My brother, who rarely plays MMO’s any longer, asked why I thought Black Desert Online had been so well received.

In a recent community Q&A the team revealed that it is looking to deploy small to medium sized updates on a “near monthly” basis. Other points of interest include the fact that the team did not fully expect the amount of interest in the game; that they’re looking at other ways to communicate with players; the ghillie suit is being given a look as well as the ‘flare’ counter-measure; and no ETA on when new classes will appear, though they may show up in a different order than Korea.

I’m going to level with you guys. I still don’t know what the frak I’m doing in Black Desert Online. I’ve played/logged well over 90 hours since head start and I haven’t even gotten to the first major city. My twitter followers laughed at me when I remarked how big and confusing Heidel seemed. If there’s one reason I think BDO is having such a wonderful effect on my beleaguered MMO-playing heart, it’s because the game really does make you learn how to play all over again.

Black Desert Online has been updated with a fairly beefy patch that addresses chat bans, some skill alterations for Witch/Wizard, a new holiday event that coincides with St. Patrick’s Day, and lists out several new items in the in-game shop.

There are few massively multiplayer games that can invoke a sense of trepidation when the sun sets and the night creeps in. For many years darkness is a thing that developers seem to have bypassed, as yet another obstacle players of the genre shouldn’t have to deal with. Having grown used to my eyes seeing as clearly at night as they do in the day, it’s with huge relief that Black Desert Online finally brings back a lack of vision.

The latest update notes to Black Desert Online have been published that bring on board a number of bug fixes and feature enhancements. A note at the bottom, however, is sure to generate conversation among BDO players.

This week, I’d like to tell you all a little story. It’s a story of treasure maps, hidden caves, idiot workers, and an imp named Red Nose. Black Desert Online continues to utterly grab me by the Ghoulies, and I’m finding out just how refreshing it is to play an MMORPG that doesn’t prescribe to preconceived notions of what an MMO should be. Pearl Abyss did things their own way, made the game they wanted to make, and while it’s not perfect is sure is refreshing.

According to the Black Desert Online Twitter, the team is aware of issues with players experiencing overcrowding and with being disconnected after short periods of game play. To compensate for these issues, server capacity will be increasing soon.
