Learn the Ways of the Aegis Reflector in this Street Fighter V Movelist Breakdown for Urien

While Juri is gracing everyone with her presence next Tuesday, eager Urien players still have to wait probably until late August to officially get their hands on the master of the Aegis Reflector. However, this hasn’t stopped PC Street Fighter V players from accessing Urien and experimenting with what this would-be emperor has to offer. AXETB has done just that, providing a comprehensive walkthrough of all of Urien’s normals and specials, as well as showing off some combos that have been discovered so far.

Starting off with your meterless bread and butter combos, the walkthrough slowly escalates to show off combos into Critical Art, some Crush Counter setups to finally end off with some super stylish Aegis Reflector combos which last for ages. The input display is shown on the top of the screen throughout so you can mark down the combos you find most impressive to then practice now or for when Urien releases for everyone. Keep in mind that some of the things shown in this breakdown may be tweaked in time for Urien’s official release so expect to do some experimentation of your own to make sure these combos actually work.

With Juri Han, becoming playable tomorrow, it’s likely that more than a few people are wondering how she plays in the hands of a top Street Fighter V players. Luckily, Ronin’s Alex Myers was at the San Diego Comic-Con where he was able to give the latest version of Juri for a spin against other players.

Now while we’ve gotten a taste of Juri in story mode, and some PC players have hacked her into the game, what we’re seeing in Myer’s videos is likely the finalized version of her that we’ll be seeing tomorrow. As such, there are bound to be some differences here from the version of her that we’ve seen so far.

Check out the videos below and share your thoughts, including any differences you might spot in the comments below.

Nohoho, Owner of Legendary Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Website, Passes Away

News has recently surfaced that a fighting game community veteran, Nohoho, has passed away. Pictured on the right, his passing arrives with great sadness to competitive players of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Super Turbo). His importance to the U.S. scene for this game was immeasurable, largely in the form of his blog: super nohoho fighter ii x.

It was here that he would report on Japanese tournament results, post match videos, transcribe interviews, and more. Covering other games as well, Nohoho, pictured above with fellow Blanka player AFO, also provided insight to the social atmosphere of the arcade scene there—thriving in comparison to our dying arcades in the states.

He was a hero in this early era of social media; there were no online lobbies to grind matchup experience, and there was exponentially less video content online. Living in Japan, this man bridged the gap between our scenes. He had a thorough tutorial on how to register an account on niconico—a Japanese website where tournament footage could be found—so that we, too, could scour the video archives to watch matches. This alone was a priceless resource at the time.

Nohoho raised the collective skill level of all non-Japanese players. He continued to breathe life into Super Turbo, a game that was already over 10 years old when he begun his website. Since many old school players started with this game, there is an intense sense of nostalgia and respect for it. The long-running success of this game set the tone for all fighting games to follow. The passing of this exemplary community member—this pinnacle of competitive Street Fighter history—is reported with a heavy heart.

Despite being a dedicated Street Fighter player, Nohoho reported on more than just Super Turbo. Vampire Savior, of Capcom’s Darkstalkers series, was another game that enjoyed more popularity in Japan. Along with the usual match videos, and tournament results, he brought us translated interviews and gripping tournament story lines: such as 1997’s Daigo-Nuki rivalry.

Other enjoyable interviews include a 2010 interview with Haitani, which includes an index of multi-game champions: a fascinating glimpse into not just tournament results, but social interactions and personalities of those Japanese players we often refer to as gods.

Interviewer: What do you think about being called one of the 5 Gods [of Fighting Games]?

Haitani: Well that’s just an internet meme so I don’t take it seriously but from my perspective there are tons of people who are more skillful than me. When people say that I feel uncomfortable. If people would say “he’s pretty strong for his area” that would be fine.

It’s not self deprecation or anything like that that’s just objectively how I see myself.

Even for players with no interest in Street Fighter, super nohoho fighter ii x is a goldmine. Any fighting game fan can get a delightful history lesson here. The gems contained here include: quotes from Daigo and his infallible confidence in Street Fighter Alpha 3, inside jokes about Kokujin of Third Strike fame, and comical catchphrases uttered throughout tournaments.

Rest In Peace, Nohoho. The scene sends you off with nothing but gratitude and love for sharing your passion with us.

Daily Dot Esports Post-Evo Recap and Interview with L.I. Joe

Evolution 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada ended last weekend, but it’s still the talk of the town in the FGC all over social media. In the latest entry of their “Best Of III” series of videos, Mike “Danke” Schiller, Efren Salinas, Steve Jurek and John “Velociraptor” Guerrero recap some of the major hioghlights and results from Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. They also touch on various topics that surrounded the event such as tournament organization, the low prize money payouts for Melee and Smash Bros. for Wii U and what they thought of the ESPN2 broadcast of SFV.

The rest of the video is an in-dpeth interview with Joe “L.I. Joe” Ciaramelli who had an incredible run in SFV last weekend placing fifth out of over 5,000 competitors, eliminating the likes of top-level such as Kazunoko and Eita from Japan along the way. In the interview, Joe talks about his performance, where he places Nash on the tier list, his dad showing up to watch him play in the top eight finals and future sponsorship opportunities. Interestingly enough, he even tells the touching story behind the pink backpack he wears at tournaments.

You can watch the entire recap and interview in the video below.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Readies for Battle as 2GGaming Announces the 2GGT: Civil War

2GGaming has followed through on its word and has officially revealed that they will be hosting 2GGT: Civil War some time in the near future. The seed for this tournament was sown just after Get On My Level 2016, following Ally’s victory over TSM ZeRo and the resulting Twitter storm surrounding who would rally behind each player if there was a Marvel-esque Civil War within the world of Super Smash Bros for Wii U. This tournament will have Ally and ZeRo assembling two teams from the world’s best Smashers to fight for supremacy and determine who is the best.

2GGaming will slowly be revealing each of the team members in the run-up to the event but players like Team Liquid’s Nairo, Panda Global’s Trela, Kamemushi, Dream Team’s Dabuz, Mr-R, Team eLevate’s Larry Lurr and Komorikiri have been named as just a few of the players who will be siding with either ZeRo or Ally. While he was mentioned in the trailer, Ranai will not be able to attend the event, due to the difficulty getting time off work to attend locals, let alone majors like this. There are a couple of players missing like Dream Team’s ANTi so we may see a secret third faction step into the fray and add a little chaos to the proceedings.

While I was initially skeptical of the whole Civil War talk on Twitter as a way of creating false hype, I cannot deny that this tournament will be incredible to watch. It will act as Evo round 2 in a way, with 2GGaming being able to run the tournament exactly how they want without the problem of other games conflicting with the schedule. With world class talent coming to support either ZeRo or Ally, it will be a gem of an event no matter what. There isn’t a hard and fast date for the Civil War just yet but I imagine there will be more news coming from Super Smash Con in a few weeks. Check out the trailer below as well as some amazing promo art for the event, courtesy of nips.

Prove that You’re an “Irrepressible Force” with this Guide to Juri’s V-Skill in Street Fighter V by Alioune

With Juri Han set to be released as the next DLC character for Street Fighter V this Tuesday, many players have been preparing for her arrival by taking her Story Mode incarnation to the lab via a PC Mod, to discover everything they can about the “Spider” before she officially drops.

One such player, is renowned French warrior and tech monster Alioune, who has put together a short video of punishes for Juri’s V-Skill. Kasatushu allows Juri to charge up a rushing attack that will cross-up the opponent and kick them from behind at the highest level.  She can also Forward or Backdash Cancel the Charge to maintain its current level, but keep it stored for later use, and can even stop herself by tapping the V-Skill command again, if she doesn’t wish to travel the full distance. This ability can also be used to punish projectile attacks, which has become something of a common theme amongst V-Skills in SFV.

Moves such as M. Bison’s Devils Reverse, Nash’s Sonic Booms, Birdie’s Drink Time, Rashid’s Yssar, Dhalsim’s limbs and even R. Mika’s Dropkick can be beaten and punished with a full combo, giving the taekwondo prodigy an extremely powerful tool that should compliment her more rushdown-focused gameplan well. You can see the full video below and can find more Juri tech, as well as several other fighting game videos on his YouTube Channel.

Maximilian Announces Return of Marvel Vs. Capcom “Assist Me” Series

After taking some time away to make editions of the series for Mortal Kombat XL, Killer Instinct and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, during his panel last week at Evo 2016, FGC content creator Maximilian announced the return of the series that started it all, Marvel Vs. Capcom Assist Me.  The show is still in early production, but more news will be coming in the future, as the crew just wanted to let the fans know they were working on it at this time.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it served as a Character Tutorial Series for many of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3’s various cast members, with live-action skits mixed in, as Max and various actors playing the characters asking him for help in improving their abilities, getting into some comedic hijinks.

Doom, Wesker, Laura and Benny are back, with the trailer having a very Star Wars Episode VII vibe to it, as various scenes from the series are on display.  There are also appearances by Morrigan and Wolverine, who could possibly be two of the highlighted characters this Season?

This is certainly an entertaining development for fans of Marvel and of his work, and we’ll certainly pass along more details here at Shoryuken, as they become available.

What characters would you like to see covered in the next Season of the series?

Killer Instinct Community Pays Tribute to Pusha T at Evo 2016

Despite being small, the Killer Instinct community has come to be known as an extremely tight-knit group. They further displayed that solidarity by paying tribute to the late Terrance “Pusha T” Moore at Evo 2016. Moore passed away on October 17, 2014, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest moments after competing on Stream at The Runback, and was unable to be revived.

Recognized as a large part of the Southern Californian KI scene, a gathering was held last Friday by Las Vegas player and Royal Flush 7 member Abel “Emperor Menzo” Arellano, which was attended by 31 players, including PAG|PinkDiamond, BH|Thompxson, and even international players Reto and OGTY.

Illya “C88 Ill Will” Walker, reflected on his teammate’s “contagious, positive spirit that is vital for the continued growth in the FGC.”  He also felt that Moore would want new players to be encouraged to continue playing the game, and was always a proponent of community building.

“Some people we didn’t know in the community; we just saw them playing the game and they just look like they were discouraged,” he said.  “Aye, let’s go cheer them on.  That’s what we do, that’s how we got around […] I am telling y’all that right now, we stayed to cheer on the winners and the losers as well.”

Pusha T was a great player, friend and man to so many people and he will certainly be missed, but one thing is certain, the KI community will never forget him.
