Bonchan shares his concerns over Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Sagat in candid BornFree interview

“Sagat is not able to assert offense (…) He’s the weakest character I play right now.”

Sagat pro Bonchan may have felt like a miracle happened when his main finally got announced in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, but as he’s developed his own take on the King, he’s become concerned with his place in the meta. He shares those concerns, and how he’d personally adjust the character, in his latest interview with BornFree.

“The number one thing I want to change is Tiger Knee,” he shares as he recalls the freedom of Street Fighter IV Sagat. Despite his hesitation, he’s still playing the character in tournament, and will play him in most situations — unless his opponent picks Guile, that is.

Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori discusses Dead or Alive 6’s graphics, gameplay, and its yet-unrevealed female newcomer

At the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, Famitsu got a chance to talk to Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori, the producer behind Dead or Alive 6. During the interview, they talked about various topics including its graphics, story, and new characters.

In regards to the graphics, Shimbori actually states that the graphics engine was not yet complete. This is an interesting statement considering, as Famitsu noted, how much an improvement Dead or Alive 6‘s graphics already are over its predecessor.

Meanwhile, regarding the gameplay, Shimbori states that he wants to emphasize reading over reacting to an opponents recovery. He also mentions wanting to change the flow of the game from “Critical → Critical → Critical” (likely referring to how the previous game tried to emphasize going for deep critical stuns). Instead, he wants players to have a choice between options such as going for early launchers, or simply doing Fatal Rush in combos. Regarding Fatal Rush, he confirms that they changed its start up time to 18 frames for the TGS build, though he states that it may still change in the future.

In addition to this, Famitsu also brought up the game’s female newcomer, someone Shimbori hinted at previously. Regarding her, all Shimbori stated was that she had a top-class voice actress, before admitting that this wasn’t much of a hint at all.

Of course, they talks a bit more about other things as well, including the game’s story. You can check out the entire interview (in Japanese) over at Famitsu.

Dead or Alive 6 is currently being shown off at the 2018 Tokyo Game Show where recently revealed characters Ayane, Bayman, Honoka, and Marie Rose are playable. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.

Fighting Vipers will be coming to PlayStation 4 — as part of Project Judge

Following up on the addition of a playable Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown in Yakuza 6, Sega’s Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is adding yet another classic fighter into one of their games. AM2’s 1995 classic Fighting Vipers is set to be playable in their upcoming Project Judge.

Fighting Vipers will be one of two classic arcade games (the other being Motor Raid) that will be playable in play spots in Project Judge. This marks the first time that Motor Raid has been officially playable on non-Sega hardware; Fighting Vipers has had digital releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though. As was the case with Yakuza 6, Project Judge will feature complete builds of both games, playable in their entirety.

Project Judge launches on PlayStation 4 in Japan, Asia, and South Korea on December 13, 2018 followed by a western release sometime in 2019.

Bandai Namco wasn’t finished dropping JUMP FORCE news for today!

Following their reveals coming from Tokyo Game Show — and the news that a closed beta was planned for Japanese players — Bandai Namco is keeping the JUMP FORCE ball rolling with some details about the Collector’s Edition and Season Pass — as well as confirmation of a closed beta for the West.

The closed beta period for us is the same as the beta for Japan: it’s scheduled for October 12-14, and will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you want in, head over to the JUMP FORCE Closed Beta page to sign up; registration is open from today until October 7.

Bandai Namco has confirmed that the game will launch with a Season Pass available — that pass will unlock nine additional characters, though the identity of those fighters is yet to be revealed, as is the price of the pass. Expect more details to come.

They have also indicated there will be a Collector’s Edition of the game, which will include:

  • Exclusive 30cm tall diorama statue of Luffy, Naruto, and Goku
  • JUMP FORCE software
  • Exclusive SteelBook case

New JUMP FORCE trailers announce Yu Yu Hakusho’s Yusuke Urameshi and Toguro, show gameplay for Kurapika and Killua, and unveil original characters designed by Akira Toriyama

The works of Yoshihiro Togashi are celebrated through their addition to Jump Force.

Bandai Namco Entertainment isn’t finished showing off new content for the upcoming Shonen Jump brawler Jump Force yet. Yu Yu Hakusho‘s Yusuke Urameshi and Toguro were announced via a new trailer for Tokyo Game Show 2018. The two characters look fantastic in the game’s unique art style, and are shown battling on a new stage based on the real world Himeji Castle. The new trailer also gives the first look at gameplay for the recently announced Killua and Kurapika from Hunter X Hunter.

Bandai Namco Entertainment also released a trailer showcasing Jump Force’s original characters and their personalities. All four of these characters were designed by Dragon Ball‘s Akira Toriyama. To be honest, the characters give off a strong Dragon Ball Xenoverse vibe, with Glover echoing Time Patrol Trunks and Galena and Kane resembling Towa and Mira. Overall, the insectoid appearances of the title’s ANTagonists are really neat. It will be interesting to see how they all transition to the game’s engine.

The release window for Jump Force was also announced to be February 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Pre-orders grant players 3 exclusive costumes for their custom fighters based on characters from One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto, and Frieza’s pod as a lobby vehicle. The Collector’s Edition will feature a 30 cm statue of the title’s main three protagonists, a steel book, the season pass which includes 9 additional characters, and three art boards.

Million Arthur: Arcana Blood reveals new PlayStation 4 trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2018

Square Enix and Team Arcana just revealed their new trailer for Million Arthur: Arcana Blood’s PlayStation 4 release at Tokyo Game Show 2018.

The trailer is mostly re-purposed footage from Million Arthur: Arcana Blood‘s arcade opening, right down to the game’s theme song Die or Dice? by Kotoko. Because of this, there’s not a tremendous amount of new stuff to the trailer — aside from new footage of Iori super-canceling his rekkas. Perhaps not the biggest revelation in a game where you can call assists mid-combos, but hey, it’s something. Hopefully Iori will make his way into a location test build of some time before MA:AB’s release — or at least get some more footage before TGS 2018 concludes.

Million Arthur: Arcana Blood hits PlayStation 4 in Japan on November 29.

Tons of new SoulCalibur VI footage reveals Lizardman’s moveset, new character slots, Azwel gameplay, and more!

At Tokyo Game Show 2018, a new build of SoulCalibur VI showed up with Cervantes and Raphael playable… this time, intentionally so. At around the same time, the NDA lifted for various top French players who have been demoing the game, such as Hayate EIN and KayaneTV. Put together, this means that there’s a flood of new SoulCalibur VI content to pour through. Let’s jump in!

First, Hayate EIN showed off Soul Chronicles, Libra of Souls and Battle modes. Here’s where we first see several open character slots, and a surprise appearance from a CPU with Lizardman’s movelist. He doesn’t have his Winged Stance from SCV or his Crawl stance from SCIII or IV, so this appears to be a return to classic SC/SCII Lizardman. The question now is simply: when will he be playable?

Hayate also brings us our first true glimpse of some of Azwel’s capabilities…

…as well as some fine exploration of Raphael’s new movelist via SoulCalibur FR against a Cervantes player. My word, Raphael’s Soul Charge 6BBB does a grip of damage, doesn’t it?

KayaneTV shows off the first 15 minutes of Gerlat’s story mode.

And here’s a truckload of new footage from TGS. The following players may not be FGC, but it’s still the first glimpse we have of the playable builds of Seong Mi-Na and Voldo.

With a month left and 4 character slots sitting blank, certainly two of the spaces is Tira and Lizardman. It’s gonna be tough waiting to see what Namco plans to do with those other two spaces.

On the game’s first anniversary, Stumblebee explores the lead-up and reception of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Mahvel came back, but why did it fall to the wayside again so quickly?

Today is the first anniversary of the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Capcom’s latest addition to the Marvel Vs. series — and a game that proved divisive and disappointing to many fighting game fans. For all the things that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite did well, it was overshadowed by the absence of classic characters, troubled PR and presentation, and the problematic Battle for the Stones circuit. When MvC:I didn’t make it to the main stage for Evo 2018, much of the community took that as the official sign the game had failed; as untrue as that is, it seems to accurately reflect the predominant attitude toward Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. However, the Evo side tournament still brought in 128 players, and despite the rhetoric that the game is “dead”, it still has a dedicated community that enjoys playing it.

To mark today’s occasion, Stumblebee has prepared this look back at the launch and reception of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, asking the question: “Why Did It Bomb?” The video explores the early reveals for the title, the big fails during the lead-up (see: Chun-Li’s face, “functions”), and the course the game took after launch, alongside its blockbuster competitor Dragon Ball FighterZ. Though Stumblebee’s video title is harsh, he’s a professed fan of the series, and actually thinks Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite got more of a raw deal than it deserved. Check it out below (some language is NSFW).

ARMS has a new update, and a new character is possibly being teased

ARMS, Nintendo’s experimental, stretchy-armed arena fighter for the Switch has received a new update; the contents of the update, which brings the game version up to 5.4, have not been revealed — however it may point to new content for the game in the future.

The announcement of the update comes via the official Twitter account of ARMS‘s in-game commentator Biff. Alongside the announcement of the update, Biff teases what may possibly a new character for the game.

In the tweet above, Biff mentions Dr. Coyle (head of the ARMS Lab) being busy in her lab, and talking to an unknown person in it.

Additionally, the Nintendo Switch Online service has started this week,  so it’s likely that the update is related to that as well.
