Newcomers Hein, Kukri, Nelson, Mui Mui and Shun’ei Trade Blows in this New King of Fighters XIV Footage

SNK is currently touring Japan with The King of Fighters XIV’s latest public build sporting 36 playable characters. Footage from these events is quite rare since they tend to discourage people from capturing video.

That said, some fans are still capturing some footage on the sly. Both Faisal Asif and Shun Halo have been able to capture footage of the new build, featuring some of the previously unplayable characters to boot.

Faisal Asif’s video focuses on Geese Howard’s butler Hein taking on the sand manipulating Kukri.

The videos from Shun Halo feature more newcomers in addition to the previous two, with match footage featuring latin boxer Nelson, time-displaced kung fu gal Mui Mui, new protagonist Shun’ei alongside veterans such as Chin Gentsai, Vice, Ralph, and King.

The King of Fighters XIV launches on PlayStation 4 in August.

Get a Closer Look at Ibuki’s Story Mode Alternate Costume in Street Fighter V

Early last week, we got an accidental glimpse at Ibuki’s upcoming Story Mode alternate costume, but the footage of the outfit was admittedly blurry. At that time, we were able to discern that Ibuki’s secondary set of duds will include a white top of some variety, but there was little else to be seen in the tiny bit of even tinier footage.

Ibuki Alt2

At this weekend’s Street Fighter V Crash event, we got our first intentional look at the upcoming DLC character’s story mode alternate costume in the form of the image above. As you can see, this simple outfit is quite similar in style to Karin’s Story Mode getup.

Do you think this costume fits with Ibuki’s style? Let us know in the comments.

Capcom Amends Pro Tour Ruling Which Bans Advertising of ‘Adult’ Products To Include E-Cigarettes, Tobacco and Alcohol

After receiving feedback over its previous ruling which specifically banned sponsors related to adult content on Capcom Pro Tour streams, Capcom has now amended the ruling to ban the advertising of all ‘adult’ products on officially produced streams, including e-cigarettes, alcohol and tobacco. According to official Tweets on the Capcom Fighters Twitter page, they will not allow “display of any products marketed towards adults” on their streams, in order to “provide an inviting atmosphere for players of all ages.”

As a result, sponsors like The Steam Co. and Bud Light (who have recently started their All-Star player initiative) will not have their team names shown on stream headers, and there will be no official advertisements from these sponsors on stream. This rule amendment comes from community feedback, which no doubt deemed the singling out of some sponsors unfair, while sponsors for other ‘adult’ items were simply dissuaded from advertising on stream. Capcom did reiterate that “players can compete in the CPT regardless of their sponsor affiliation” but that their sponsors simply won’t be allowed to advertise their products on stream.

Don’t expect any Bud Light jerseys on stage or any more stream adverts selling vape kits in the future. You can check the amended ruling on the official Capcom Pro Tour rules page.

Mr. Wizard Asks If Ibuki Should Be Allowed at Evo, Fans Respond with ‘Yes’

One of the bigger discussions right now in the Street Fighter V community is whether or not upcoming DLC character Ibuki should be legal at Evolution 2016 this July. While a regular Capcom Pro Tour event would only ban characters released within a week of the event, Evolution has its own rules requiring characters to be out for at least a month for them to be legal.

Despite this, Evolution co-founder Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar has noted the fact that many players and fans would like to see the kunoichi playable at Evolution and opened a poll on Twitter asking whether or not they would want to see her playable at the tournament.

As of the poll’s close, just shy of 75% of the nearly 8,000 participants said they would like to see Ibuki participate in the event. Whether or not this poll will lead to Ibuki being playable at Evo–if she does miss the June 15 deadline–is still unknown.

Allowing newly released characters into tournaments is always a tricky proposition. We’ve already seen examples of new characters released close to certain tournaments dominating said tournaments in other games. However, Capcom and Street Fighter have for the most part avoided this in the past which could help sway things in Ibuki’s favor.

Delve Deeper into Meter Management in Street Fighter V with ‘Hit the Ground Running’ Strategy Series

In Jay “Viscant” Snyder’s 13th edition of Hit the Ground Running—a series on strategy over at BROKENTIER—he delves into various approaches on how to spend your Critical Art and V-Trigger meter. In an effort to shed some light on a topic that otherwise hasn’t seen a lot of lengthy discussion, he first explores Critical Art meter. Branching from the more obvious dilemma of “Do I save my meter to finish the round, or do I spend it when I get the opportunity to take half their life bar?” to deeper matchup-specific uses for meter, Jay speculates well on many angles and approaches.

V-Meter is broken down in refreshing ways, including the equation of V-Meter and the health bar:

Each character whether low health or high health has their full health bar equal about 4 bars of v-meter. Meter is also gained from crush counters, blocking hits and using v-skills meaning that in a back and forth round that goes down to the wire, the meter expectation is even higher than 4 bars, maybe as high as 5 bars for characters who use their v-skill in neutral. This may seem somewhat counterintuitive given how players are playing the game right now. There just doesn’t seem to be that much v-meter used in a normal match. Where does it all go?

Viscant continues to explore meter management in ways one could easily overlook, such as how your meter use affects your opponent’s meter gain, or why you have to consider more about both meters with M.Bison. We see ideas from Daigo Umehara, match analysis, and more here in a succinct brainstorm that any Street Fighter V player should explore. The full article can be viewed here.

Twitch Names Daigo Umehara Their First Global Brand Ambassador

Following his recent partnership with Red Bull, Daigo Umehara has now announced on his daigothebeastv Twitch stream that he has joined forces with Twitch, becoming their very first “Global Brand Ambassador”.

His new position will involve promoting Twitch all over the world, beginning in Asia–and this will not be limited to the realm of fighting games, but will include gaming in general. He will be traveling to non-FGC-specific expos and conventions, having a particularly large role at the upcoming Twitch Con. He will apparently be entering future tournaments under the tag Twitch|Daigo, but it is unclear how this will affect his listing in the Capcom Pro Tour. No mention has been made if there is any change to his arrangement with Red Bull.

Information on this development is still sparse, but we can certainly expect to see more of Daigo in his new role in the future.
