Pick Up Braixen Guard Breaks Galore in Pokkén Tournament

There were a lot of reasons why Bim? won DreamHack Austin, but the one that got a noticeable pop from the crowd was a particular Diglett guard break. Well, it turns out that Sceptile is not the only Pokémon capable of these sorts of setups.

YouTuber Shadowcat has developed similar options for Braixen, too. The wily fox does a ton of guard damage, blows up CA attempts on wake up thanks to Diglett, and forces mixups off the 2nd guaranteed Flame Pillar.

K Prime would like to remind you, however, that Diglett isn’t the only assist capable of such setups. Check out this Farfetch’d guard break!

This stuff seems to be in high supply with Braixen since she can support cancel many moves, which is rare in this game.

Once you’re in Braixen’s insane burst mode, you even have some ways to score two guard breaks in succession.

Not even being a ghost will help you escape.

With the game still very much in its youth, it’s easy to imagine a world where even more setups of this nature will come to be.

Brief Teaser Video Offers a Look at Killer Instinct Season 3’s Gargos in Motion

We’re soon to find out all we could want to know about how Gargos will handle himself in battle, but that doesn’t mean the folks at Iron Galaxy Studios have to stop giving us small glimpses of the upcoming character. One such glimpse went live recently in the form a video demonstrating his standing roundhouse.

The button, which surrounds Gargos in an aura of energy, looks to consume projectiles–at least those of the single-hitting variety. Sadly, the video doesn’t include health bars, so we have no way of knowing if Gargos takes damage–or perhaps recovers life–by dissipating fireballs in such a fashion. Though the footage is limited, the button’s functionality may hint at Gargos’ playstyle. A tool of this nature would likely work well with a set of abilities built around strong zoning options, but could also find a home in a slow-moving character with massive damage potential, offering him a means to get close to those who wish to keep his evil at bay. Of course, these guesses are only two possible options amid a sea of many.

Check out the video for yourself, and be sure to tune in to the Gargos stream tomorrow at 2 PM PDT (5 PM EDT) for a full breakdown of everything the upcoming character has to offer.

Discover the Art of Street Fighter V’s “Unmoving Shimmy” in this Tutorial from PAN

Anyone who’s clocked some hours in Street Fighter V is likely familiar with a technique known as the “shimmy.” This maneuver involves a player first walking forward to visually bait a throw attempt from their opponent, before moving back a few steps to get just out of their range, causing the throw to whiff and giving them a large punish for their correct read.

During DreamHack Austin, Ultra Arcade’s Saionide was utilizing a new variation of this technique with his Ken that is being referred to as “The Unmoving Shimmy.” PAN decided to look into this technique further and has discovered that it leads to a safer and more damaging method of baiting throw attempts by using a character’s normals to space their body perfectly outside of throw range. This method is also safe against low checks, unlike the regular shimmy, and can be utilized by all characters.

The majority of the setups shown here will work on everyone, though a few of them will prove ineffective against M. Bison, as the Psycho-Powered Dictator possesses the largest throw range of any character currently in the game, coming in at a whopping 9.0, a whole two pixels longer than the shortest in the game, Rashid’s 7.0 pixels. Necalli and F.A.N.G were inadvertently left out of the video, but their setups have been documented in the video’s annotations.

Karin Relives Her Alpha 3 Days with this New Street Fighter V PC Mod

When Karin first came into the Street Fighter franchise back in the late nineties, the heiress was just a rival for Sakura. As such, her original costume was a red version of Sakura’s schoolgirl outfit.

Now, for those who wish to see her Street Fighter V incarnation sport the look she had back in Street Fighter Alpha 3 (as well as Masahiko Nakahira’s Sakura Ganbaru manga), PC modders are here to help.

THEJAMK has created a mod that gives Karin back her original red uniform which you can see in the video below. Take note, however, that there are a few glitches with the costume, most notably her skirt doesn’t change from red when picking an alternate color. That said, it’s still a decent looking mod.

Nevada Casinos Preparing to Take Bets on eSports

NBC News affiliates are now reporting that the Governor of Nevada, as well as the gambling commission of the state, are considering the possibility of allowing casino bookmakers to accept bets on professional gaming events. The casinos are interested in the prospect in order to keep the sports books fresh and maintain a competitive and progressive improvement to the gambling systems already in place in Nevada.

While the report expresses concerns about cheating, whether it be via devices or through match-fixing as would be expected in professional physical sports, the committee did hear feedback from Jonathan “FATAL1TY” Wendel, who was able to give his feedback in what could be set into place.

One casino in Las Vegas has already been reported to have an application finished to take bets on eSports events, and it is believed to be an inevitability to be allowed.

Will we one day be hopping across the strip to take bets on Evo Top 8s? Time will tell, but just make sure you gamble responsibly if you do.

Watch Street Fighter V’s M. Bison Become a Parrying Powerhouse

With the lowest walking speed in the game, the logical approach to besting M. Bison is to zone him out. Capcom kept that in mind, though, and equipped him with a V-Skill built to blow up fireballs.

But that isn’t all the V-Skill is good for. Perhaps due to the resulting animation upon absorbing plasma and answering with his own, it’s sometimes easy to forget that fireballs aren’t the only thing that Bison can parry. His V-Skill will absorb one hit of any description, even if it’s a limb. If you choose, you can even use Bison’s resulting thrown Psycho Power to confirm into extra damage.

Venom47–also known as VenomOfTuesday, one of the highest ranked Bison players on the CFN–has taken it upon himself to show us just how useful Bison’s V-Skill can be with his compilation of mid-match parries. To keep things interesting, he throws some invulnerable dashes for a bit of extra flavor.

Never before have Bison’s repeated cries of “Meaningless!” sounded so sweet.

Check Out Some Top-Level Japanese Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Play Complete with English Commentary

Streamer and Japanese Guilty Gear player Joniosan has been hosting a series of exhibitions which take place at Tokyo’s Mikado Game Center. These exhibitions pit talented Guilty Gear players against one another in first-to-seven sets to see who comes out on top.

These sets are not only a good chance to see some top-level matchups, but also an opportunity to listen to English commentary provided by MajinObama, an American player currently living in Japan who provides helpful insights during the matches.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to learn about -REVELATOR-‘s returning character, Johnny, MajinObama’s commentary will bring you up to speed on his  mechanics in this match from last week, which sees Karinchu’s Johnny face off with Nakamura’s Millia Rage.

The latest exhibition is between Machaboo’s Sin and Nage’s Faust. Machaboo switched from Ky to Sin, and is widely considered a very strong player, in particular because of his grasp on fundamentals and spacing. When it comes to Faust, there’s probably no one who can pilot the zany character better than Nage.

K-Brad Discusses Justin Wong’s Dominance, Input Delay and More in Best of III

Straight from DreamHack Austin, Evil Geniuses’ Kenneth “K-Brad” Bradley stopped back by the Best of III studio to share some thoughts on his teammate Justin Wong’s dominance in the US scene, as well as the issue of input delay currently plaguing Street Fighter V.

On the former, K-Brad states that Wong is the best player in the US at the moment. This status is something that he feels his teammate will be holding on to for at least the next few months.

As for the issue of input delay on the PlayStation 4 version of Street Fighter V, K-Brad states that he isn’t too worried about it right now, and feels that we should just view it as part of the game. He goes on to state that “[he] never once felt that [he] couldn’t do something because of lag.”

You can check out the rest of the interview below.
