Celebrate Pokkén Tournament’s Pikachu with this Special Edition Controller

Late last month, word started spreading about an upcoming Pokkén Tournament controller sporting a Pikachu theme, but we’re only just learning that you won’t have to pay for one in Yen.

In form it’s exactly the same as a standard Pokkén pad, though the yellow shell and black highlights do plenty to set it apart from the crowd. It also features the silhouette of Pikachu himself. Do bear in mind that Pokkén controllers only work with Pokkén Tournament on the Wii U; they can’t even influence the main menu like a Pro Controller or Wiimote can.

If you’re itching to get your hands on this Pika powered pad you can head over to GameStop to get your fix. It’s exclusive to the retailer, so don’t expect to see it anywhere else. At this time, the controller is available for pre-order only and lists a late July release date. It currently shares its $29.99 price tag with the standard Hori Pokkén Tournament Pad.

Don’t Forget to Pick Up Your Street Fighter V One-Shot on Free Comic Book Day

Back in December we covered the news that UDON would be releasing something special for Free Comic Book Day: a one-shot collection of Street Fighter V tales. Now Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner–it’s tomorrow–and with it comes your chance to pick up a piece of Street Fighter history without having to break the bank.

The 32 page, full color volume is the work of writers Ken Siu-Chong and Matt Moylan, whose words are brought to life with art by Edwin Huang, Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz, and Brendon Tapper. It will feature new and returning characters like Charlie Nash, Karin Kanzuki, Rashid, and Laura in three unique stories that you’ll only find in STREET FIGHTER V #1 FCBD 2016 EDITION. The name just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

And if you still need convincing, why don’t you check out this preview of what you can expect to find when you open your newest loot on Saturday morning.

As we noted back in December, this is a silver contribution, which means that it’s not guaranteed to be on offer at all participating stores.

Kenneth “K-Brad” Bradley Discusses Barbecue, Cammy, and the Capcom Pro Tour in Latest Best of III

While in town for DreamHack Austin, K-Brad stopped by the Daily Dot studio to sit in for a special episode of Best of III. While usual K-Brad antics are to be expected–and he definitely delivers them–the Evil Genius also gives a great breakdown of Cammy’s Street Fighter V appearance and why many people currently consider her weak in the game. K-Brad offers up his take on the Capcom Pro Tour, too, paying special attention to the goals of Evil Geniuses with said circuit.

Since K-Brad was able to make the trip out to the studio, the episode closes with matches against host Mike “Danke” Schiller.

Samurai Shodown II Now Available on Xbox One

According to a tweet from Microsoft’s own Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, Samurai Shodown II is now playable on the Xbox One thanks to the magic of backwards compatibility. If you do decide to give this a go, you’ll be playing the 2008 Xbox Live Arcade port of SNK’s 1994 classic.

The game joins a growing list of fighting titles that have become backwards compatible. The Xbox One now plays host to titles like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Soulcalibur I and II, and Skullgirls. With a huge back catalog of fighters to draw on, you have to assume that there will only be more to come.

So if you’re looking for some classic samurai battling on your Xbox One, you can grab Samurai Shodown II from the Xbox Live Marketplace for about 10 bucks.

The Evolution Championship Series Has a New Home on Twitter

Unique names being tied to accounts on social media sites can result settling for an alternative account name because your preferred handle is already in use. One such instance occurred when the official Evo Twitter account was created. As many likely know, the account could be found under the handle “Evo2K” for a number of years; however, that is no longer the case.

The folks at Twitter were kind enough to relocate the official Evo Twitter account to the previously inactive “Evo” name. If you’re looking for up-to-the-second updates for all things relating to the Evolution Championship Series, be sure to give Evo a follow.

Do note that if you were already following the previous account, your follow has transferred.

Improve Your FireFox’s Pokkén Tournament Performance with Flame Charge Cancels

Don’t let Pokkén Tournament’s character select screen fool you into thinking Braixen is “Standard”; this fox is packing some serious technique.

User FreeMagee on /r/PokkenGame has discovered a trick for canceling the startup of the FireFox’s Up+A attack, Flame Charge. Though this attack seems designed as a combo ender, this technique instead allows the Braixen to extend their combos further by shaving the recovery of the preceding launcher Up+X. This not only gives the little Fire Mage a bit more damage output, but as FreeMagee notes, it also allows for a (all important) safe Sunny Day buff. For those wanting to take Braixen to the next level, here it is.

As demonstrated in this video by OfficialMASTERLINKX, you’ll know you’ve done the technique right when the flash of Up+A surrounds Braixen at the last moments of Up+X. Instead of taking the enemy pokémon for a ride, you land daintily on the ground below. Of particular note is that the technique seems to only be possible on hit, hinting at some underlying system mechanics allowing the player to safely option select this.

Can Braixen FCC possibly be the start of some canceling exploits to come with other characters?

Learn to Cancel Standing Normals into Down Charge Specials with Alex, Courtesy of THE COOL KID93

Thanks to a short guide by Wave eSports’s own THE COOL KID93, Alex players can learn how to easily cancel into a special involving a down charge from a standing normal. The video shows how down charges can effectively be hidden inside the animation of other moves, like Alex’s toward heavy punch.

While this is good in neutral, COOL KID also details how cloaking down charge can lead into a decent mixup if opponents have been conditioned to expect chops or command grabs. More importantly, these down charge setups can work following a meaty standing heavy punch, even beating 3 frame jabs if timed correctly.

As is common in videos from THE COOL KID93, you’ll also get a look at some mid-match applications of the demonstrated technique.
