ZeRo Discusses Recent Sheik, Mewtwo Changes in Super Smash Bros. for Wii

Nintendo’s recent Super Smash Bros. for Wii U balance patch proves the company still intends to provide current generation Smashers with the best experience moving forward. And what better way to show care for a healthy tournament scene–at least in potential character variety–than to nerf the best characters in the game and buff those who weren’t so great? While Sheik wasn’t the only one who felt the brutal impact of the nerf hammer, she’s definitely the one who has garnered the most attention. But just how much do these nerfs actually affect her? In a recent video, Team SoloMid’s Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios discusses this topic at length.

Perhaps the most devastating change Sheik received was the 20% reduction in her needle range, as it hurts her camping ability and removes some of her stage control power. ZeRo notes that this range nerf isn’t nearly as rough as something like an increase in the move’s recovery would have been, but the reduced range is definitely felt. The patch also affected her kill potential in certain scenarios, which ZeRo demonstrates as well.

But Sheik’s nerfs aren’t the only thing on ZeRo’s mind, as he recently uploaded a similar video discussing the buffs received by Mewtwo in the recent patch. While damage and kill potential were never issues for the legendary Pokémon, survival and general movement options were. Luckily, Nintendo decided to make him heavier and faster, while also offering slight changes in other areas, such as the area covered by his neutral air.

If you’re looking to make sense of some of the recent changes to the game, these videos are a great place to get started.

More King of Fighters XIV Footage Surfaces from South Korea’s PlayStation Arena

South Korea, alongside Latin America and China, is known as one of the more popular regions for King of Fighters competition. With this in mind, SNK Playmore trotted out a playable build of King of Fighters XIV last Sunday at PlayStation Arena in Seoul. Luckily for those who weren’t able to attend, Gato ray captured a good amount of off-screen footage.

As the developers are still using an older build, likely the one shown at C3 Expo in February, none of the recently announced characters were playable. That said, the videos below still provide glimpses of aspects we may have missed in previous footage, including King’s ground bounce off her EX Tornado Kick, her Surprise Rose Desperation Move, Leona having a follow-up from Grand Saber yet again, the start of Robert’s EX Ranbu, and more.

King of Fighters XIV is coming to PlayStation 4 later this year.

Razer CEO Addresses Arcade Stick Issues at Final Round

During the Street Fighter V tournament at Final Round XIV, Razer competitors Xian and Fuudo experienced a number of issues with their Razer Atrox arcade sticks, some of which may have even contributed to their elimination from the tournament. Unfortunately, these occurrences aren’t uncommon, and Atroxes used by Razer or other teams sponsored by them have often failed during major tournaments, the most famous example being Evil Geniuses’ Momochi experiencing a failing stick during Evo 2015’s grand finals.

In light of these issues, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan recently issued a statement addressing the situation. According to Tan, the reason Xian and Fuudo’s arcade sticks failed was due to the fact that they were prototypes that were being field tested in actual competition. These prototypes have supposedly worked fine during internal testing, but a glitch in the latest PlayStation 4 firmware caused the malfunctions.

While this is exactly what testing is for, the decision to do so during high-stakes tournaments is nothing short of mind-boggling.

In response to the issues, Tan has stated that Razer will be suspending any future fighting game community support until the issues with the PlayStation 4 sticks have been sorted out and are ready for production. Their existing sponsorships however will remain unaffected.

The unveiling of these prototypes indicates that Razer is likely moving forward in their efforts to develop PlayStation 4 peripherals; as recently as The Fall Classic, Razer players were still using Xbox Atroxes modded with parts from the Hori Pad FPS+, as seen in this image of Perfect Legend’s stick from Matthew Gummo.

Here’s hoping Razer irons these issues out soon so that these prototypes stop affecting their players so negatively in tournament.

Street Fighter V Roundup – Poongko Match Analysis, Karin Sweep Punishes, and More

We’ve got a big weekend ahead of us thanks to Final Round 19. This first official stop on the 2016 Capcom Pro Tour is sure to see players performing at their best, so viewers have a lot to look forward to. If you still need an extra bit of Street Fighter V footage to help you kick off the weekend, we’ve got plenty ready for you in today’s community roundup!

Poongko’s explosive style made him one of the most exciting players to watch in Street Fighter IV, and it’s no surprise that he has managed to translate his unique aggression to Street Fighter V. In a new video, jmcrofts takes an in-depth look at some of Poongko’s gameplay with Cammy in the new title. If you’re looking to up your Cammy game, or just see one of the masters at work, this footage will do you no wrong.

Dhalsim can be a slippery target to face, given his ability to teleport out of situations many other characters have to stand there and take. With proper knowledge, however, the long-armed Yogi’s options become much less enticing on wakeup. In a new video, Triox demonstrates how Shadowloo’s second in command, F.A.N.G, can slap ‘Sim with heavy punishes for his efforts at waking up with anything other than a block.

It’s important to make the most of these punish opportunities when they arise, but such punishable situations aren’t always obvious. In the case of Karin, who has quite a bit of reach attached to her sweep, punishing can be a little tricker than punishing those with stubby limbs; however, this video from kevinjct shows roster-wide options for putting the heiress in her place following a blocked trip attempt.

YogaFlame24 has been bringing high-quality replay footage to Street Fighter fans for some time now, and in a new series, they’ve begun breaking apart some of these replays into particularly outstanding plays. The most recent in this series highlights none other than HORI’s sako and how he goes about scoring a perfect. There’s more than enough high execution to go around in this set, so you don’t want to miss it!

And hey, who doesn’t love to see a good double KO? This next top 5, also from YogaFlame24, highlights some truly hilarious situations where both players connect that final hit at the same time.

If you’ve got some tricks of your own to share, send them our way! Your video could appear in our next Street Fighter V community roundup!

Bafael Breaks Down Frame Traps in Street Fighter V

Frame trapping is, without question, one of the more difficult concepts for new fighting game players to grasp. On top of being odd to truly pin down, staring at frame data charts or scrolling one of the available frame data apps can be an intimidating process; there are just so many numbers.

In a new video, Bafael discusses this elusive topic at length with regards to Street Fighter V. But beyond going into what makes frame traps tick, he also discusses when they should be added in to one’s offensive pressure, why they may fail to snag some opponents (like late techers), and how to adjust your existing frame trap game to account for random variables.

If you’re looking to learn how to crack open your opponent, especially with a character like M. Bison, Cammy, or one of the other frame trap-heavy characters, you’ll not want to miss this video.
