Recent Tweets May Point to Impending Mortal Kombat X Netcode Improvements

Earlier this week, Mortal Kombat X players got a first look at gameplay footage for the characters coming to the game as part of Kombat Pack 2, but an expanded roster may not be the only exciting thing on the horizon for the title.

No one loves a mystery as much as NetherRealm Studios’ Creative Director Ed Boon, a truth he reiterated earlier today in the form of a seemingly innocuous Tweet. Upon examination, some followers were quick to notice the message sports “GOOD GAME PEACE OUT” in all caps, perhaps nodding to the popular netcode bearing the same name.

NetherRealm Studios’ Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown chimed in on the topic soon thereafter, offering little by way of resolving the mystery, but saying “some fun news [is] coming tomorrow.”

In a world where many of us spend more time facing off against opponents online as opposed to shoulder-to-shoulder at local tournaments, less than perfect netcode can (understandably) herald the downfall of an otherwise excellent game. With that in mind, improved netcode would certainly be a welcome addition to Mortal Kombat X.

Mr Peck Presents Stylish Peacock Combos in Skullgirls 2nd Encore

Combo videos offer a certain kind of entertainment not often found in proper matches, but it’s not common for a combo video to provide as much entertainment as Mr Peck’s latest Skullgirls 2nd Encore offering. In the video, the Peacock master demonstrates plenty of options that push the limits of practicality. Not only do many of these combos dole out massive damage, they often come with the additional bonus of completely demoralizing opponents.

The footage is loaded with plenty of unorthodox Lenny usage, and some strings that allow Peacock to pile on the hits from full screen, but the real star comes near the end when Mr Peck shows off how long he can walk forward while keeping a combo going, thanks to an assist from Valentine. It’s quite a long walk.

Street Fighter V Update Hints at Another Beta Phase

When phase 3 of Street Fighter V’s beta took place last December, many assumed it would be to last time they’d get to play the game before its February 2016 launch. However, a new update to the beta client seems to hint that we may yet get another, unannounced beta phase.

The PlayStation 4 version of Street Fighter V has been updated with a massive 3.2 gigabyte patch. The notes for this update, which you can see below, only state that this is an “Overall renewal for next Beta Test.” In addition to this, we’ve received reports that the PC client on Steam has been updated as well.

Back at the San Diego Comic-Con in June, Capcom announced that Street Fighter V would have only three beta phases. This update hinting at a 4th beta phase comes as a pleasant surprise, especially for those suffering from withdrawal after the last beta phase ended.

Arc System Works Releases BlazBlue: Central Fiction Act2 Opening Cinematic

At the end of last year, Arc System Works teased BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s upcoming Act2 update with a short video. This update to the game promises access to Speed Star Mode, a casual play option allowing players to test their skills against throngs of enemies to see how many they can defeat in a set period of time, as well as offering several quality of life changes for training mode, progression in the game’s story and plenty more.

Yesterday, the game’s official opening cinematic released, and we’ve included it below. As expected, the video offers viewers a look at bits of the story, some short segments of gameplay and runs through a sort of dramatis personae all while bumping upbeat music.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction Act2 is set to release at the end of January.

Team SoloMid’s ZeRo Talks Personal History with Smash

Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios is one of those players so ingrained in the Smash community that even the most casual Smasher has likely heard his name. With wins at Apex, Community Effort Orlando and Evolution last year on top of his sponsorship from Team SoloMid back in August, it’s no surprise that he’s become (even more) well known.

However, all of this success doesn’t come without drawbacks, and that’s part of what Barrios discusses in the interview below. In addition to talking about his ambivalent attitude toward losing–or, more accurately, not taking first place–he breaks down his humble beginnings with Super Smash Bros. 64, detailing how that got him where he is today.

ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League North America Season 2, Week 8 Streaming Live

ESL’s Mortal Kombat X competition returns for another installment of its second season. Similar to the previous season, the first few rounds of this online tournament have narrowed the playing field down to eight competitors in each region, who will be going at each other’s throats today to earn their way towards the grand finals event next year and its $100,000 prize pool.

Some of the more notable players you’ll see participate this week include YOMI|Slayer, UA|Scar, cR|WoundCowboy, SenorAbram, and Pig of the Hut, among others.
