Transitioning to a new generation can be a costly proposition for most gamers, but expenses definitely begin to pile up as a fighting game fan. Apart from purchasing the console and whatever games you hope to compete in, those of us who rely on arcade sticks to get the job done typically have to shell out extra cash for modifications or, in some cases, completely new peripherals.
That’s where budget controllers, like those in HORI’s Fighting Stick Mini line, come into play. Their latest iteration adds PlayStation 4 functionality while still retaining compatibility for PlayStation 3 as well as improved buttons for a more clicky feel. Of course, you won’t find any of HORI’s fancy Hayabusa and Kuro parts here, but this small stick could be just the thing for beginners or players on a budget.
The HORI PS4 Fighting Stick Mini 4 is now available for $39.99 through Arcade Shock. Shipments are expected to begin sometime near the middle of December.
With a number of BlazBlue titles under their belts, it appears as if publisher H2 Interactive has set their sights on bringing Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- to PC as well. A listing for the port, pictured below, was recently discovered on Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) website ahead of an official announcement.
Only time will tell what this news means for the fighting game community, but with a console release for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- already on the horizon, it’s hard to think of this as a major game-changer. We’ll be sure to keep you informed as more details become available.

Want to check these tournaments out for yourself? Well, you’re in luck, because even if you missed out this week, Churning the Butter is held every Thursday at 8:30 PM PDT during ShowDown’s game night at Folsom Street Foundry.
It seems like every day in the fighting game community brings with it a fresh argument, but if there’s one thing most folks can agree on, it’s that Liquid’s Du “NuckleDu” Dang is one of the most promising young players on the scene today. His relatively short time on the competitive circuit has garnered a ton of attention, and he recently capped off an impressive Street Fighter IV career with a top eight placing at Evo 2015.
But with more attention comes more scrutiny, and the spotlight has been squarely focused on Dang over the past few days due to his actions at two tournaments, both of which took place at eSports Arena in Southern California.
It all started at iBUYPOWER Cup 2015. Dang, a Florida native, made the trip from the southeast to compete, and by “compete” we mean “mercilessly blow through some of the region’s strongest players.” Not only did the Guile master make quick work of all the opponents placed in his path, but he did so in a fashion some may think of as disrespectful.
By now, it’s common knowledge that Dang makes a point to use Guile’s sunglasses taunt on a regular basis. Although they don’t really do anything in-game, one could say those shades help the young competitor psyche himself up for the match at hand. Like a pep talk, really, but those small pep talks quickly became a speech of monumental proportions when he faced local players Brentt “brenttiscool” Franks and Chris Tatarian.
And that wasn’t the end of it. Dang stuck around for this week’s Wednesday Night Fights, and did the exact same thing. While his victory from the weekend’s tournament wouldn’t translate to a first-place finish at the weekly, his dedication to Guile’s shades only grew. Who else have you seen pass up guaranteed damage to taunt their opponent multiple times without any gameplay benefit?
If you saw the second-hand salt but missed out on witnessing this interesting tactic live, USF4 RBK compiled a bunch of footage from both of these tournaments in the video below to show just how far Dang went to spruce up Guile’s outfit in each of his matches.
Did Dang go too far or is this sort of thing to be expected in a competitive environment? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
Apart from offering up some of the best competition around with their worldwide qualifiers, Killer Instinct World Cup organizer Brandon Alexander recently announced their intentions to host an art gallery showcasing the work of the talented individuals that make up the fandom.
Ultra Arcade is looking for submissions from any and all community members, provided the art pays homage to Killer Instinct in some way, naturally. Samples can be sent to killerinstinctcup@gmail.com if you feel you’re up to the task.
Like many tournaments these days, the Killer Instinct World Cup is quickly moving beyond the confines of a mere competition to become a huge celebration of the genre we love so much. It’s set to take place January 30-31 in San Antonio, Texas, so don’t miss out! Further details are available here.
Ah yes, it’s that time of the year again. The leaves are changing, family is visiting from out of town, and stores will be filled to the brim with shoppers looking to grab (and sometimes fight over) deep discounts on a variety of items. Fortunately, those of us who dare not brave the cold weather and horrendous crowds still have a lot to look forward to in the digital space, and a few such deals recently showed up early on Xbox Live.
While many of these titles have seen recent discounts, these offerings are the lowest they’ve been in some time. Highlights include the entire Killer Instinct season two package for only $20 and a near half-off markdown on Mortal Kombat X premium edition, which bundles a bunch of downloadable content with the base game.
A full look at the current sales can be found below, and we’ll be sure to update our table should more become available over the next week. Please note that all of these details require an active Gold subscription to take advantage of.
After getting their introduction out of the way yesterday, David “UltraDavid” Graham and James Chen of UltraChen TV are ready to jump into the meat of their new World Warriors of Capcom Cup series. Funny enough, they’ve chosen to start out with the one fighting game player who needs no introduction, Daigo Umehara of Team Mad Catz.
From his Street Fighter Alpha 3 exhibition against Alex Valle to the full parry at Evo 2004 and beyond, Daigo is definitely the closest thing our community has to a superstar. As such, Graham and Chen focus on his performance throughout just this year in order to keep the video from being an hours-long affair.
For a recap of how this amazing player qualified for Capcom Cup, the inherent skill he brings to the competition, and more, be sure to check out UltraChen’s breakdown below.
What would you say if we told you the first King of Fighters XIV trailer included a brief glimpse of the character select screen? Crazy, right? Well, that’s the theory put forth by ATRyoSakazaki in their latest video.
While compiling footage for an excellent examination of the upcoming title’s graphical changes between teasers, Ryo stumbled upon a strange image that appears to be a rudimentary character select screen. In order to assure they weren’t pulling the wool over our eyes, we took a quick screenshot of our own and, yep, it’s definitely there.
By editing out the flames and extending the details that are in full view, Ryo posits that there are a total of 48 boxes compiled in 16 individual groups. This lines up perfectly with our previous report on a rumored cast list that, while months old, also mentioned Chang Koehan donning a prisoner uniform with the rest of his team.
Of course, while common sense points towards this hidden image being an empty character select screen, nothing we’ve seen of King of Fighters XIV in official materials confirms these findings. We’ll just have to continue speculating until we learn more. Until then, be sure to check out ATRyoSakazaki’s video below and let us know what you think.
King of Fighters XIV is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4 in 2016. A playable demo will be available at PlayStation Experience next month, so keep your eyes on Shoryuken for more details.
Thanks to the dedication of Novril and the Chemical Lovers team, aspiring Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- players now have another tutorial at their disposal. This week’s episode is all about grounded throws, and as such touches on their importance in the overall game, how to set them up, and how to work them into your own strategies.
In addition to this information, the team includes a brief segment surrounding an important option select to use when going for throws. The exact input for the OS varies depending on character, but you can find a full list of the best options in the video’s description.
If you’re looking to up your Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- game, or have a friend who is, be sure check out the rest of this video series.
With this year’s Capcom Cup rapidly approaching, Peter “Combofiend” Rosas took to Capcom-Unity this morning to provide a few more details on things like tournament format, schedule, and, of course, those oh-so-sweet payouts. So let’s dive right in.
Thanks to the increase in competitors, Capcom Cup 2015 will be broadcast across two streams, and matches will play out in 2/3 sets, switching to 3/5 upon reaching top sixteen. Of course, it also goes without saying that they’ll be sticking with the double-elimination format for the duration.
“But, Shoryuken, what about the money!” we hear you cry. Oh baby, let’s talk about the money.
Apart from being crowned the world’s best Ultra Street Fighter IV player, the first-place finisher will earn a cool $125,000, or half the event’s overall prize pool. After that, the payouts drop considerably but still continue to rival even the biggest fighting game tournaments thanks to Sony’s involvement: Capcom Cup’s runner-up can expect to walk away with $60,000 (before taxes, naturally!) and third-place will be rewarded $25,000 for their efforts.
And finally, if you plan on attending this event or watching from home, expect to set aside a good 12-hour chunk of time to take it all in, with high-level analysis interspersed between tournament matches.
Capcom Cup 2015 is scheduled for December 6 at PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, California. More details can be found by following the link below.
