Southern California will be getting into the global Tekken tournament action this weekend with its own qualifier. The qual is going down at the Round 1 arcade in Puente Hills Mall. The winner will land a spot in The King of Iron Fist 2015 Grand Final, a $80,000+ prize Tekken 7 event featuring qualifying players from around the world.
Some of Cali’s best Tekken heads will be participating, looking to claim the qualifier spot for their own, including Mr. Napps, RIP, JustFrameJames and more. Check out the action on Team Spooky’s stream and follow the brackets on Challonge.
The folks over at Team St1ckbug return this weekend with a brand new tournament for the local New York City community, with a twist.
Today’s event, while also featuring some of the best players in the region, will also welcome out-of-state talent to their competition, including Nakkiel, MC|GCYoshi13, Kid Viper, and blackSNAKE, all of whom were flown out thanks to Biscuits and Hotashis. You can also expect to see Southern California’s Beautifuldude and a number of Canadian players in attendance as well.
Due to attendance expectations, they will only be running tournaments for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND.

Netherlands’ Red Fight District is back for another year. Taking place in Amsterdam, this year’s RFD is an Ultra Street Fighter IV Capcom Pro Tour ranking tournament. Players will be looking to score some of those precious points. In addition to Ultra Street Fighter IV, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat X, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will also be a part of the event. Street Fighter V will also be in playable form at the venue.
In addition to some familiar European faces, Gonzalez of Japan will also be participating in the event.
The Ultra Street Fighter IV Capcom Pro Tour returns to China this Saturday and Sunday for another event, this time in Chengdu. Ze Fighting Game Championship is a Capcom Pro Tour Asia event, with a qualifying spot for the CPTA finals later this year as well as points for the top 16 placers.

The road to Bandai Namco Tekken 7 global tournament THE KING OF IRON FIST TOURNAMENT 2015 kicks off in Japan! On Saturday September 26 is the OSAKA CHALLENGE, followed on Saturday October 2 by the TOKYO CHALLENGE, the first round of qualifiers in Japan for the global tournament.
Each Challenge will have a Women’s 1on1, Student 3on3 and Open 3on3 division, with prize pools of 150,000 yen, 300,000 yen and 500,000 yen, respectively. The winners of each women’s division will qualify for the GRAND FINAL directly, while the winning teams from student and open divisions qualify for JAPAN ROUND in November, with the chance to then qualify for the GRAND FINAL.

With everyone focused on the inadvertent reveal of newcomer Laura, it’s easy to forget that Zangief was just recently confirmed to return in Street Fighter V. That said, anyone still looking forward to seeing the Red Cyclone in the hands of top players are in luck.
None other than reigning Capcom Cup champion, Evil Geniuses’ Momochi himself, will be demonstrating Zangief in Street Fighter V alongside Capcom’s Tomoaki Ayano as part of he and Chocoblanka’s Shinobi no Kai 2 Vol. 2 broadcast.
The event, which will see Momochi play and help others learn the game, is currently live. The next session is scheduled for 2:30 PM JST (10:30 PDT, 1:30 EDT tonight), but no word was provided as to when viewers can expect the Zangief demo. Stay tuned!

Thanks to the complexity of the fighting genre and the abundance of nuanced features that our favorite titles tend to contain, Bafael still has plenty of topics to work with in his Ultra Street Fighter IV Primer series, even this late in the game’s life.
His latest video covers a handful of closely related topics beginning with true blockstrings and then moving on to auto guard, chain canceling, and proximity guarding. As with all of Bafael’s videos, viewers will find out how these topics affect gameplay on a match-to-match basis and, especially in the case of true blockstrings, how to use these mechanics to solidify a stronger game the next time you step into the arena.
Few competitive Killer Instinct regions come to mind outside of the United States. For whatever reason, it hasn’t gained the same foothold elsewhere, but that hasn’t stopped small pockets of the world from developing their scene with the release of the title’s latest installment on Xbox One.
One such pocket is Japan. Renowned for their skill in pretty much any fighting game you can think of, Japanese competitors have begun to spring up, bringing new ideas and techniques to the table with them. Names like Domi, who was the only non-American to qualify for Evo 2015’s top eight bracket thanks to his surprising Cinder play, and OGTY, translating his success in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, have proven that they deserve to be counted among the world’s best.
Fortunately, Ultra Arcade has recognized their talent, and will be providing Japan with their very own Killer Instinct World Cup qualifier in Kombo Klash Japan, scheduled for later this month.
Ultra Arcade’s Killer Instinct World Cup is an answer to the Capcom Pro Tour, and its organizers are hoping to do for Killer Instinct what Capcom Cup did for Street Fighter. By holding qualifiers, they are ensuring that they bring together the best players they can find, as well as making sure the entire community is represented.
As of this writing, TSC|CDjr, UA|Bass, UA|MyGod88, UA|Paul B, and MOR|Rico Suave have qualified for the finals, a fitting testament to the level of competition this event is sure to provide.
