Beefy Smash Doods Live Up to Their Name with These Serious 2-on-1 Combos in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

The Beefy Smash Doods are at it again, this time bringing ultimate pain to one unfortunate target with two sets of fists. Thanks to the intelligent abuse of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’s mechanics, the team pulls off some seriously absurd strings: Diddy gets a chance to fully charge his peanut gun, Jigglypuff lands two Rests, and Captain Falcon gets one of the most beautiful alley-oops into his knee that I’ve seen.

The creators do note a few things in the videos’ description that warrant a mention here as well: footstools don’t allow the affected player to tech, and jab locks force characters into a standing animation during which they’re vulnerable to whatever their enemy chooses to bop them with. Additionally, since these combos were obviously staged, DI isn’t taken into account.

You’ll probably never see them in a doubles tournament, but that doesn’t make these combos any less satisfying to behold.

Shoryuken Readers Overwhelmingly Support Baiken’s Possible Return in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

As some of you may remember, we launched a fun poll a few weeks back that asked which classic character you want to see make an appearance in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. To keep things from getting too out of hand, we used the list of choices provided by Arc System Works themselves, who are currently running their own, official poll in Japanese arcades.

Inspired by the folks over at Kakuge Checker, we put the question to our readers, who came out in droves to participate. After all was said and done, 5733 individual votes were cast, giving us an interesting picture of where each character stands.

Before we get to the full results, I have to stress that this is nowhere near being sanctioned by the developers. This was merely an experiment to see how our audience would respond, and has no bearing on who will eventually join Guilty Gear Xrd’s playable cast.

Alright, now that we’ve got that out of the way, onto the results!

Baiken was the huge favorite, garnering over a quarter of the votes ahead of Dizzy and Bridget in second and third, respectively. While none of these stats are mindblowing, they do go to show just how popular the one-armed, one-eyed swordswoman actually is, at least among our readers.

Rounding out the top ten are A.B.A, Holy Order Sol, Testament, Zappa, Izuna, Valentine, and Raven. The last three are perhaps the most surprising due to their connections with Guilty Gear 2: Overture, the action-RTS hybrid that departed from the series’ fighting roots.

For a full look at how things shook out, be sure to check out the full results below. For comparison, we’ve included Kakuge-Checker’s tally as well. Please note that the Japanese site allowed multiple choice, whereas we only gave folks a single vote. All percentages are approximate.

Shoryuken (5733 total votes)

  1. Baiken – 1490 (26.0%)
  2. Dizzy – 675 (11.8%)
  3. Bridget – 470 (8.2%)
  4. A.B.A – 454 (7.9%)
  5. Holy Order Sol – 353 (6.2%)
  6. Testament – 351 (6.1%)
  7. Zappa – 343 (6.0%)
  8. Izuna – 273 (4.8%)
  9. Valentine – 234 (4.1%)
  10. Raven – 229 (4.0%)
  11. Robo-Ky – 216 (3.8%)
  12. Anji Mito – 175 (3.1%)
  13. Justice – 134 (2.3%)
  14. Fanny – 126 (2.2%)
  15. Kliff Undersn – 125 (2.2%)
  16. Dr. Paradigm – 85 (1.5%)

Kakuge Checker (2826 total votes)

  1. Holy Order Sol – 429 (15.2%)
  2. Baiken – 398 (14.1%)
  3. Bridget – 315  (11.1%)
  4. Dizzy – 275  (9.7%)
  5. Valentine – 178 (6.3%)
  6. Testament – 154 (5.4%)
  7. Anji Mito – 141 (5.0%)
  8. Zappa – 119 (4.2%)
  9. A.B.A – 116 (4.1%)
  10. Izuna – 112 (4.0%)
  11. Justice – 108 (3.8%)
  12. Raven – 107 (3.8%)
  13. Robo-Ky – 106 (3.8%)
  14. Dr. Paradigm – 103 (3.6%)
  15. Fanny – 92 (3.3%)
  16. Kliff Undrsn – 73 (2.6%)

Are you asking yourself how these fighters might play when they reach Guilty Gear Xrd? Well, lucky for you, Arc System Works battle planner Pachi is way ahead of you, and already provided his thoughts on how they may change should they return in -REVELATOR-. Be sure to check out our translations if you haven’t already.

Finally, thank you all for participating! Let us know what you think of these results in the comments.

Put Kirby’s Hup Cancel to Good Use in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Kirby has been holding down a place in the Super Smash Bros. roster since the game first hit shelves well over a decade ago. Over the course of his long stay among the rest of the Nintendo greats, the savior of Dreamland has come to be associated with a few things, among them easy kills on the uninitiated thanks to his ability to inhale opponents and leap to his own demise and the Hup cancel.

Named for the sound that he makes during the startup of his down air, the Hup cancel allows Kirby to negate landing recovery in various situations, leading to a good number of mixup opportunities.

For a breakdown of how to perform this technique in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, as well as some ideas on its applications, be sure to check out the video below.

Latif Goes Up Against Dashio in Ultra Street Fighter IV Exhibition

In a recent stream, the folks at YUBIKEN hosted a first-to-five Ultra Street Fighter IV set between C. Viper faithful Latif and their very own Seth mastermind, Dashio. Recorded shortly beofre his impressive victory at Tokyo Game Show 2015, Dashio brings out the sort of Seth play that dropped more than a few jaws just last weekend.

With such explosive characters under their control, there’s no shortage of stuns, high-damaging combos, and insane mixups to behold in the footage below. To help keep the hype levels high, as well as demonstrate the friendly nature of the exhibition, viewers get to see Latif react to the clutch moments that close out most every round.

YUBIKEN also recently hosted a first-to-three set between their own KichijojiKEN and Humanbomb of Canada Cup Gaming, during which both players stuck to using series protagonist Ryu. Be sure to follow this link to check it out as well!

Meet Tianhuo, the Half-Dragon Cast Member of Them’s Fightin’ Herds

After launching their Indiegogo campaign earlier this week and unveiling Them’s Fightin’ Herds first five characters, the fine folks at Mane6 recently dropped information on a sixth, rounding out the indie fighter’s initial cast. While “imposing” may not be the right word for this half-dragon character, Tianhuo certainly represents a different side of this decidedly cutesy title.

Tianhuo is based off the fabled longma of Chinese mythology, and sports a pair of fiery wings that are much more than show. According to Mane6’s gameplay description, she is capable of flight-based attacks and can cancel her entire movelist into Firecracker, her unique Magic ability.

In other news, Mane6 recently threw their hat into the ring on Steam Greenlight, the service that allows smaller titles to be published on the platform if enough interest is shown from the community. Should you feel like helping be sure to visit their official Greenlight page and vote ‘Yes’.

At the time of publishing this article, the Indiegogo stands at $160,405 of the overall $436,000 goal after just four days.
