Ledge-canceling opens up plenty of interesting options in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but some of these options are more obvious than others. In a recent video, StylesX2 discusses how to take advantage of this mechanic to tack on moves after a successful multijab that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible.
Perhaps the most notable option that this sort of ledge-cancel affords is Mac’s ability to follow his jab with a K.O. punch for a stylish way to end a stock. This also adds combo potential to all of the other characters who prefer fast-paced punches when holding down the attack button; so, yes, that means characters like Diddy Kong and Sheik benefit from it, but so do Mr. Game & Watch and Captain Falcon.
If you’re looking for new options when you have your back up against the wall (or lack thereof), be sure to check out this tutorial.

Although R. Mika was just announced yesterday, we already have some more gameplay footage of the professional wrestler courtesy of Capcom’s presence at PAX Prime. Associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas stopped by Twitch’s convention booth with the latest build of Street Fighter V, ready to hand out rainbow-tinged beatdowns.
When he wasn’t humiliating Mike Ross, Rosas provided some great insight into R. Mika’s development and how she has transitioned to the upcoming title. “It’s so funny because in the Alpha series, she was seen as kinda weak. I thought she had potential but nobody was really digging her. But now, she’s out, she’s been redesigned, and she’s a serious contender. I think she has all the tools to beat all the characters in the game.”
By combining a throw-strengthening V-Skill, “Ric Flair chops,” and her iconic booty bump–the only move retained from Street Fighter Alpha 3–R. Mika has the tools to shift in and out of the typical grappler role comfortably. “She is [Street Fighter V’s] first full grappler,” Rosas continued. “I mean, she has some decent buttons. So, the idea here is, of course we want to make sure every character is a threat outside of their defined way to play. A grappler, generally speaking, has decent pokes and good command throws. Since her command grabs are a little slower than your typical SPD startup, her normals are a little better, so she can get in, she can play footsies, but she’s way offensive. Sorry, not way offensive, it’s more methodical offensive.”
As was mentioned in the original reveal, R. Mika also brings her tag-team partner Nadeshiko to the fight as well, allowing her to set up some nasty mixups and traps. Apparently, players will be able to choose the assist timing as well as what side she comes out on.
Ross also picked Rosas’ brain about how Street Fighter V has changed as a whole. “There’s been slight speed adjustments, and we also made some adjustments to how V-Trigger is activated. We’ve really been looking at the game from E3 until now and are constantly making adjustments. When the game finally drops, when people do pick it up, it will definitely have more adjustments made to it than we’ve even seen here.”
Be sure to check out the full archive below for more R. Mika footage. The segment in question begins around 1:05:30.
After receiving delays both official and rumored, fans expecting Mortal Kombat X to land on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have waited months since the title launched on current platforms for an official release date. Unfortunately, it appears as if that day will never come.
“After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game,” the publisher’s announcement states. “We were not able to get [these] versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.”
Past details mentioned that NetherRealm Studios focused entirely on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, leaving development for older platforms to High Voltage Software. You may remember that name as the studio behind the lackluster PC port, which required numerous updates and patches to reach a playable state after release.
All in all, it’s hard to be surprised by this news, as disappointing as it is. This was likely the final fighting game to appear on previous consoles outside of continued PlayStation 3 support from publishers like Arc System Works and XSEED Games, and fans of the genre will eventually need to move on to keep up with the competition.
Yesterday, Ed Boon hinted that the upcoming Kombat Kast will include some “news and klues” regarding the future of Mortal Kombat X. While we all have our own ideas of what exactly these klues may be, the folks at NetherRealm Studios have started to tweet out hints at the sort of changes that we can expect.
Most of the hints come shrouded in a healthy amount of ambiguity, like Tyler Lansdown’s tweet that “Ermac players will be flying high on Monday,” which could mean anything from damage increases to all of the red ninja’s tools to a simple tweak to his flight ability in the Spectral variant.
Other tweets offer more insight into the exact nature of the changes they suggest, like new Brood Mother combo options for D’Vorah, a hint that Cryomancer Sub-Zero will see improved rushdown potential, and a new move will be coming to Sun God Kotal Kahn.
In certain games, counter-hits are awarded special properties that lead into big damage. Such is the case with Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- where, at the very least, they give more hitstun and can even lead to wallbounces and ground slides.
May is a character that can benefit greatly from these counter-hit situations. In their new video, 2ndState goes over a number of damaging combos that lead from grounded, anti-air, and air-to-air counter hits; some of the strongest can lead to over 50% damage on an unlucky opponent.
2ndState also released a video dedicated to May’s oki game last week, so be sure to check that out as well if you haven’t already.
As some of you may have heard, Rainbow Mika is the latest character to be announced for Street Fighter V. In line with this, Vesper Arcade has done a short breakdown of her reveal trailer.
In the video, Vesper points out that a good of her classic normals have survived the transition from Street Fighter Alpha 3, including what seems to be her forward kick command normal and her crouching strong punch anti-air. He also takes note of her “Stone Cold Stunner” V-Reversal and wonders if it’s a single motion or an actual follow-up.
Another thing he takes note of is how Nadeshiko’s V-Trigger assists seem to combo, or hit off the ground, after some of Mika’s throws, such as the bulldog that she pulls on Vega. Unlike M. Bison’s headstomp OTG, however, it doesn’t seem like the opponent can quick rise out of the follow-up.
Speaking of Mika’s V-Trigger, Vesper also goes over a segment of the trailer that seems to indicate how long it takes before Nadeshiko appears on screen. After activation, Mika is still able to block and punish a roll from Vega before her partner comes out.
Of course, these are just some of the things Vesper talks about in his video. Check it out below to see the rest.
