Playing fighters competitively is a constant cycle of practice and study. New discoveries are made on a consistent basis in many games, and that means folks who want to keep up at a high-level will need to continually expand their knowledge of how their favored title operates. Fortunately, others out there do a great job of collecting these findings in easy to digest packages, and we were recently made aware of one such resource for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

In their ‘Tech of the Week’ series, Tourney Locator does an excellent job of providing bite-sized bits of Smash strategy on a regular basis for those interested in the game’s intricacies. Since April, they have released tutorials on concepts like ledge denial, delays, trump jumps, and more.

The latest installment in this series deals with sling shotting, or the act of utilizing a wall jump and a B-reverse to maintain speed and mobility while returning to the stage. This gives the player the ability to reduce their helplessness while trying to regain footing and set up unique opportunities for offense.

As our scene’s largest tournament, it regularly features some of the greatest competition around and serves as the culmination of the year’s most compelling storylines.

Combo video wizard Persona has recently been going through his old King of Fighters XIII combo videos and updating them. Last time out, he showed us some new tricks for Hwa Jai, now he turns his sights onto the EX version of Iori Yagami.

Unlike his Hwa Jai video, this new one has discarded all the combos from his previous EX Iori combo video. The result is a series of even more impressive combos for the wielder of the purple flame using tricks like empty canceling his rekkas and even busting out an infinite combo that can lead into stun.

Street Fighter V’s first beta test on PlayStation 4 is coming in less than two weeks. To help players get up to speed, Vesper Arcade has put together this system guide that breaks down the game’s systems so those who are in the beta spend less time trying to figure them out.

The video below focuses on the general game system, including the new V-Gauge and the options tied into it, such as V-Skills, V-Reversals, and V-Trigger. It also goes over other small changes, such as the removal of Street Fighter IV’s crouch tech option select and strike-invulnerability on backdashes, as well as how okizeme and ukemi now work.

Take note, however, that there are some things that he does get wrong. Specifically, he mentions that throw ranges in Street Fighter V are shorter, even though Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas has confirmed that they are the same as its predecessor, as well as attributing Crush Counters as coming from other games, even though Street Fighter Alpha 3 already has a similar counter-hit mechanic.

That said, this is still a pretty solid guide, and anyone who’s pre-ordered the game to try out the beta should give it a go.

Grappler fans trying out Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will most likely be drawn to Chadha. This mysterious monster has a plethora of command grabs that should keep anyone getting close to him on edge.

That said, Chadha can also do a fair amount of combos, as this video from Sebastian Rikk will demonstrate. While the combos here may not be the most damaging in his arsenal, a good number lead to useful reset situations. Additionally, the really damaging ones come from anti-air situations, which should keep players from trying to jump in on him.

After four years of putting on both singles and team tournaments, The Steam Co.’s Michael “IFC Yipes” Mendoza is set to take his popular Curleh Mustache invitational series back to California for yet another round of competition. This time around, however, it’s going to be even more exclusive.

Today, Curleh Mustache West Vol. 4 will bring together 32 of the west’s strongest Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players to once again prove they have what it takes to be called the best. Always the careful observer, Yipes has selected participants based on their performances at past Curleh Mustache West events. You can expect names like PG|Filipino Champ, EG|Justin Wong, BT|Clockwork, BT|Angelic, and TMP|NYChrisG scheduled to be in attendance.
