Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late is a game that stands out in no small part due to its roster, which is filled with very unique characters and interesting designs that require a lot of knowledge to contend with. Today, ESL will be hosting Fatal 8, a special Mortal Kombat X exhibition serving as a precursor to their upcoming Pro League dedicated to the new title. As the game has yet to hit store shelves, this will be the perfect opportunity to catch a look at how early competition will play out.

The players invited to participate are rather varied, with a group that includes Carl “RZR|Perfect Legend” White, Ryan “Prodigal Son” Hart, Ryan “Ketchup” Neal, EJ “HB|Tyrant” Williamson, Christian “KiT|Forever King” Quiles, Malik “MIT” Terry, Tony “Tony-T” Pert, and Dominique “cR|Sonic Fox” McLean.

This Saturday, NYU Game Center is bringing you its yearly fighting game tournament, Spring Fighter 2015. This year’s competition titles are Guilty Gear Xrd, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Ultra Street Fighter IV, along with Lethal League and Killer Queen. As a special prize, the winner of the USFIV tournament will score a trip to Evolution 2015.

Following what has now become a tradition, NYU Game Center will be hosting a talk session with a major figure of the fighting game scene. In 2013, it was Daigo Umehara, and in 2014, Alex Valle. This year, Seth Killian will be interviewing the legendary ChoiBoy, John Choi.

Team Spooky’s Arturo Sanchez will be hosting a stream for the event, so whether you’re longing forward to the fighting games or the session with John Choi, be sure to tune into his Twitch channel, viewable below.

A couple of months back, we ran a couple of stories on a canceled Justice League arena fighter that was being developed by Double Helix Games before they began work on Killer Instinct, and Past to Present Online has since provided even more footage of this interesting title.

The videos below showcase a couple of matches from the game’s versus mode. The first one pits Batman against Bane, while the second highlights characters who have yet to make appearances in any DC Comics fighter to date: Lady Shiva and Morgaine Le Fey.

Being recorded of an unfinished build of the game, some weirdness is present. For example, characters float in a weird manner after they’re launched, hanging in the air for a few seconds before unceremoniously dropping down.

Another notable details is a system where characters can somehow gain attributes from other cast members, with Batman evoking Superman and Morgaine Le Fey gaining the powers of Sinestro.

Today, Persona continues their journey of bringing the highest-quality King of Fighters XIII combo videos to the community. Their latest offering focuses on Maxima, and as you might expect, this video is loaded with different methods of properly using the cybernetically enhanced fighter’s high-tech weapons.

As always, Persona has included plenty of kill combos, and in true combo video style, you’ll also get to see a full-screen carry in which Maxima utilizes an opposing projectile to help get rid of those pesky recovery frames. Also, be sure to take a close look at the way the combo against Raiden plays out, as it involves an interesting hit that allows Maxima to continue the combo even though the opponent is clearly in downed frames.

Any time a handful of characters begin to stand out as the most powerful in a game, the tournament scene becomes more and more saturated with them, and understandably so. That has been the case in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for quite some time now–there are, of course, always those character loyalists, or even folks who enjoy fighting the uphill battle that these titans often present.

In an effort to equip one of those low-tier characters with the tools that she needs to survive, MrOrchazm has put together a highlight reel of resets for Felicia while she’s backed up by Shuma-Gorath and Doctor Doom. While one of those aforementioned titans is on the team, the important thing here is that the Darkstalkers veteran leads the charge and, with a little help, she’s able to score big damage off of several situations.

Option selects are some of the most interesting techniques that a player can use in any fighting game. They give the player a safe way to approach their opponent, with anything the latter does leading to one of two possible outcomes that are favorable to the former.

In this new video, Paul Ramos demonstrates one such option select for Killer Instinct’s Hisako. The great thing about this technique is that it is meaty, done when an opponent tries to wake up from a knockdown. By hitting heavy kick and then all three kick buttons, Hisako can create an option select that just about counters any reversal the other player tries to do on wakeup.

Beware, however, of an opponent that opens with a block, as that will leave the ghostly fighter vulnerable to punishes.

Furthermore, Ramos released another video today that builds off this option select, allowing Hisako to go into her rekka string when landing the meaty opening attack instead of entering a counter state.
