Character packs 4-6 dropping on 8/6/18 for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, details teased for new announcement

Arc System Works is looking to co-opt the announcement hype today. At the close of Evo 2018‘s BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle tournament, they revealed that character packs 4-6 will be released in a few days on August 6th. These packs add the following characters…

 

From BlazBlue:

  • Nine
  • Izayoi
  • Mai

From Under Night In-Birth:

  • Merkava
  • Yuzuriha
  • Mika

From Persona Arena:

  • Mitsuru
  • Labrys
  • Akihiko

 

This huge surge of characters dropping on the 6th isn’t enough for Arc System Works, though: there’s an additional announcement at the closed event for Cross Counter TV’s Bar Fights tonight. While playing coy, the developer called special attention to the “colors” at the end of their slide. It could be assumed that tonight’s announcement will be the addition of a new franchise to BBCTB. Will Guilty Gear characters make their way to ArcSys’s crossover fighter, or will this be an all new property never before seen in a ArcSys fighting game?

Arc System Works to make World Premiere announcement tonight at Cross Counter TV’s Bar Fights

While the action is raging at Evo 2018 this weekend, it’s about time to get into some game announcements! Cross Counter TV has just revealed that Arc System Works is set to make a World Premiere announcement later tonight at the Bar Fights event taking place at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be streamed at barfights.crosscounter.tv, with the festivities kicking off at 8:00 P.M. PT and lasting for around 6 hours, until 2:00 A.M. PT on Sunday morning.

We’ve already seen the original Guilty Gear ported to the Nintendo Switch at the company’s booth, and with this being the 20th Anniversary of the franchise — in addition to the 30th Anniversary for the company itself — could it be time to get ready to rock once again? We also know that there are nine upcoming characters set to join the cast of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, with Cross Character Pack 4 rumored to release this Monday, August 6th. Could some of them finally be officially unveiled? ASW is also publishing the new 3D Arena Fighter, Kill La Kill The Game: IF, which has been available for Evo attendees to play for the very first time. Could we see some new characters don their Goku Uniforms and jump into the madness?

Try out the original Guilty Gear on the Nintendo Switch at Evo 2018

If you’re at Evo 2018 and are a current (or potential future!) owner of a Nintendo Switch, then you should set a few minutes aside to check out the Arc System Works booth. There, you will find a demo of their latest port for the original Guilty Gear:

It’s unlikely you’ll miss the ArcSys booth’s massive western-themed display in the center of Evo:

The Guilty Gear port was announced back in may, and is something of a companion to the Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R port announced around the same time. Both titles, as of now, have no further information on launch date and region release — but if they are showing off a build at Evo 2018, we have to think that a release is coming soon!

Capcom continues to tease the reveal of G in Street Fighter V with the mysterious “Message To The People”

“My voice is your voice. What I fight for is to fight for all of you.”

After switching their social media avatar to indicate a new character was incoming, Capcom has expanded their hype-building efforts for the upcoming reveal of G — the next Season 3 DLC fighter for Street Fighter V — via a mysterious campaign both on Twitter and on the floor of Evo 2018 itself.

Numerous FGC personalities have tweeted about receiving fragments of what appear to be some kind of manifesto. You can find them under the #MessageToThePeople hashtag:

Soon, the pieces of this declaration were assembled:

The entire “Message To The People” reads:

To the people of Earth who yearn for unification
Only you have discovered the knowledge I have bestowed upon you
Presented with this knowledge, you will now understand my purpose
One voice plus the seven continents to carry mankind
All that divides us, I will Smash Over and Under to Burst
The Impact of my dream will charge us with the power of Earth
Every Charge you build will strengthen my voice
Victory will be achieved once we become Pangaea once again
One world where I will be your President

This certainly gives us a glimpse into the intentions of the mysterious “G”, and definitely seems to have some pretty heavy Illuminati leanings. Could G be a version of Gill after all? Is this the Secret Society’s first attempt to seize power of the world? Or is there something even stranger going on? We don’t have a clear idea of what Gill is specifically up to during Street Fighter V yet, so almost anything is possible. G could even be a predecessor in the Illuminati to Gill — or a member of the Secret Society that has parted ways with them to pursue his own philosophy.

The strange declaration may even hint at some aspects of G’s gameplay: “Smash Over and Under to Burst” is rather suspicious, and the multiple references to “charge” could be a clue. Either way, when “One voice plus the seven” come together tomorrow night at Mandalay Bay for Street Fighter V top 8, we can expect to learn some more about this unusual character.

Eric Jacobus embraces the Satsui no Hado in the latest “Real-Life Tekken”

The latest episode of “Real-Life Tekken” heads to the Streets!

After emulating the moveset of SNK guest character Geese Howard back in December, stuntman and actor Eric Jacobus returns for the first episode of “Real-Life Tekken” in 2018, choosing to take things to the Streets by emulating the moveset of another Tekken 7 guest fighter: Akuma.

Clad in a blue karate gi, Jacobus proceeds to Gohadoken, Goshoryuken, and Tatsumaki Zankukyaku a punching bag with all of the ferocity and killing intent of the “Raging Demon” himself (or at least as much of that as you can muster in reality). He even manages to pull some extremely impressive Demon Flips with brilliant usage of mats, and a hilarious “recreation” of the Raging Demon with firecrackers.

Jacobus notes that, “Akuma’s moves are the result of doing karate in sandals for a thousand years. His stance is totally grounded, as if his toes are gripping the ground. Everything is heavy-handed and karate-based, except for some of his impossible airborne attacks. Nonetheless, if you find yourself in a street fight and you’re wearing flip flops, don’t try to fight like Akuma.” You can view the full video below.

Enjoy Mitsuru Kirijo’s English voice clips, and more BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle leaks courtesy of BonusKun

Even more English voice clips and upcoming song lists point to the remaining BBTAG DLC characters!

On the eve of its debut at Evo 2018, more leaks just continue to keep springing for the remaining DLC characters yet to be officially revealed for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, courtesy of Twitter user BonusKun. After revealing English voice clips for BlazBlue’s Izayoi, Nine The Phantom and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Labrys and Akihiko Sanada, in addition to Under Night In-Birth’s Merkava and Yuzuriha, he has now posted English voice clips for the leader of the Shadow Operatives, Mitsuru Kirijo.

In addition to revealing that her role will be reprised by Tara Platt, we now know that she will have special interactions with P4A’s Naoto Shirogane, Akihiko Sanada, and Aigis, BlazBlue’s Jin Kisaragi, Nu-13, and Mai Natsume, and Rachel Alucard, UNIEL’s Orie and RWBY‘s Blake Belladonna and Weiss Schnee, even invoking the latter’s infamous “Ice Queen” nickname.

Also, BonusKun has also discovered exactly where each of these remaining nine fighters will be placed within their individual columns on the Character Select Screen. Izayoi will be in front of Azrael, as they both hail from Chrono Phantasma, while Nine and Mai will be beside Es and Jubei, respectively, rounding out the Central Fiction quartet. On the P4A side of things, Mitsuru and Akihiko will be next to each other and beside their Persona 3 companion Aigis, while Labrys will be between her sister and Yu Narukami. For UNIEL, Merkava will be in front of Vatista, continuing the mirroring of the original arcade character reveal order, with Yuzu and [st]’s Mika Returna rounding out the column.

Next, we also have some song leaks that further point to these characters, just in case you still weren’t convinced yet. The list of upcoming themes is as follows:

  • VARIABLE HEART (Mai Natsume Theme)

Though the songs are the expected fare, Reincarnation stands out as an interesting inclusion, as it served as the Mercury Family vs. theme for whenever Nine battled either her daughter Kokonoe or her beloved sister Celica, neither of whom are currently in BBTAG. BonusKun speculates that this could just be being repurposed as a vs./team theme for Nine and her husband Jubei, as they lack a proper vs. theme in BBCF, but that remains to be seen.

Finally, there is an interesting image that is currently going unused, but looks like it could fit right into the main menu as a new tab. It looks like a Keystone reflecting the images of DLC characters from all four franchises: Jubei, Blake, Carmine, and Aegis, suggesting the possibility of a new in-game interface to the online stores for purchasing DLC characters and colors, similar to the one currently seen in Street Fighter V. Dive into Darkstalkers with The Nostalgic Gamer’s Fighting Game Primer series

Step into the world of the Night Warriors with these guides from The Nostalgic Gamer!

After concluding his “Meet The Darkstalkers” series last April with an episode covering Lilith Aensland, The Nostalgic Gamer continues his Darkstalkers Forever project with a three-part “Darkstalkers Fighting Game Primer” mini-series. It serves to introduce newcomers to both the wold of Darkstalkers (as well as the fighting game genre as a whole) though the lenses of Night Warriors and Vampire Savior, the two most-commonly played installments of the franchise, which are also part of Capcom’s 2013 Darkstalkers Resurrection release.

Though the series begins by explaining the very basic concepts of 2D fighting games (which will no doubt be familiar territory to the majority of our readers), TNG goes on to outline mechanics that are specific to Darkstalkers such as Pursuit Attacks, Holds, and the Dark Force system in Vampire Savior, as well as the core differences between the two games.

Finally, the third part of the Primer discusses ways for new players to get into the genre and stay for the long haul, as well as just exactly what drives many of us to log hours and hours of study and playtime into our video game genre of choice — especially for a 21-year old game like Savior.

With this weekend’s AnimEVO having a 56 entrant side tournament, this series is definitely a recommended watch if you’re new to the game, but invested in spectating the event. BornFree interviews Smug at Defend the North 2018, talks Balrog, Fortnite, and more!

There are few, if any, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition players that ooze the charisma that RISE|Smug does. With a wild sense of humor and a finely crafted Balrog, Smug manages to always come out of a tournament as the most talked-about player, win or lose.

It doesn’t hurt any that, lately, he’s been doing an awful lot of winning: he’s currently 6th on the NA Capcom Pro Tour leaderboard, and walked away with a top 3 finish at the event today’s interview was filmed at: Defend the North 2018. Season VII of For Honor adds a new map, updates the Valkyrie and Warden heroes

While the game hasn’t made the news much as of late, Ubisoft has been continually updating their unique hack-and-slash fighting game hybrid For Honor. Season VII of the game, called Storm and Fury, has just gone live, and it brings with it a new map as well as some significant tweaks to a couple of heroes.

First off, Storm and Fury‘s new map is called Secluded Keep. Billed as a former retreat of some lord that’s now been turned into a highly-contested outpost, Secluded Keep will be available in Tribute, Skirmish, Elimination, Brawl, and Duel playlists.

In addition to this, two of the game’s existing heroes, Valkyrie and Warden have received significant reworking. This involves what Ubisoft has called “major updates” to both heroes’ movesets to make them more “versatile and viable for competitive play”.  This should be great news for players of both classes.

Other changes in Season VII include updates to player progression with the addition of new legendary gear, 10 new Reputation levels, and two new ranked divisions: Master and Grandmaster. Additionally, Ranked Duels are now available outside of tournaments.

Of course, this isn’t the biggest update that For Honor is going to get this year. This October will see the release of the Marching Fire update which brings with it the new Wu Lin faction and 4-on-4 Breach Mode, among other changes.
