Tekken series producer, Katsuhiro Harada, revealed as DLC character for Tekken 7 in hilarious April Fool’s Joke

The REAL King of Iron Fist has finally come to claim his crown!

Though Season 2 of Tekken 7 came to an end at the close of February with the release of Julia Chang and The Walking Dead’s Negan, it seems another character could be heading to the game in the future, as the true King of Iron Fist has finally decided to step into the 3D arena.

Earlier today, Chief Series Producer Katsuhiro Harada tweeted the following, announcing that he’ll be the next entrant into the King Of Iron Fist Tournament 7, even revealing screenshots of him in a very fine suit facing off with Kazuya Mishima atop the G Corporation’s Helipad. His message reads as follows:

This model looks very similar to the one that was threatened by Negan during his reveal trailer to release him alongside Julia in the game’s latest update. Though this is clearly a fun April Fool’s Day joke, we have seen an in-game avatar of Harada in a Bandai Namco Entertainment 3D title before, as he could be faced, clad in Heihachi Mishima’s trademark gi, in the Quick Battle Mode of 2012’s SoulCalibur V, rewarding players that defeated him with the Soul of Devil Jin moveset that was exclusive to Create-A-Soul custom characters, allowing them to harness the Devil Gene and the powers of Devil Jin on the Stage of History.

Interestingly, response to this joke has been extremely positive from the Tekken community, with fellow Tekken producer, Bamco Game Designer, and Harada’s personal translator, Michael Murray, Tweeting out his shocked surprise over the response, while also noting that he shows up during Harada’s Rage Drive to, “try to show him the mute/block button as he steamrolls over trolls, LOL!” Mr. Wizard has also preemptively banned Harada from Evo, citing that he’d be, “way too broken!” Let us know in the comments section if you’d be willing to buy Harada-san as a playable character in Tekken 7 and Happy April Fool’s Day from all of us at Shoryuken!

Dead or Alive 6 World Championship set to begin at The Mixup in Lyon, France on April 20th

The Tour will have $90,000 in prize money up for grabs!

It appears the 2019 Season of the Tekken World Tour won’t be the only competitive circuit beginning at The Mixup in Lyon, France this April, as Koei Tecmo Games and Team NINJA have finally revealed the details of their upcoming Dead Or Alive 6 World Championship, following its announcement at Evo Japan last February.

Qualifying events will be held in North America, Europe, and Asia, with the Finals event culminating later this year at the DEAD OR ALIVE Festival 2019 in Tokyo, Japan, where the 16 best Dead Or Alive 6 players across the globe will battle for ultimate supremacy.

As far as competitive rankings go, the tour will consist of three “Offline Fatal Match Events.” These will be the equivalent of the Premiere Events seen on the Capcom Pro Tour, with the winners of each earning immediate qualification and the remaining members of the event’s Top 16 being awarded a sliding scale of points towards their respective Regional Leaderboards.

There are three Regional Leaderboards in total, those being U.S., Asia, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa.) This trio of events will also have an $8,000 pot bonus up for grabs. Additionally, there will be eight “Offline DOA6WC Point Match” events, which will be the Tour’s equivalent of the CPT’s Ranking Events, as well as well as four “Online DOA6WC Point Matches.”

Eventually, 3 spots will be given to the tournament winners of the “Offline Fatal Match Event” (CEO 2019, Summer Jam, The Fatal Match in Japan), 11 additional players will be chosen based on their ranking on the DOA6WC Point Leaderboard, with three available spots for Asia, five for the United States, and three for the EMSA. Finally, there will also be two spots available to the Top 2 placers in the Last Chance Qualifier Tournament that will be held the day of the Finals at the DEAD OR ALIVE Festival 2019.

Players who have qualified through winning an Offline Fatal Match may still participate in other events, but any earned points will be considered null and void, so they do not factor into the Leaderboard standings, and should they win, the Rule of Succession will shift the qualification spot down the line until it is awarded to a player who is currently un-qualified.

Finally, if any qualified players choose not to participate in the Finals in Japan, (though Koei Tecmo is offering assistance with travel and lodging), then additional slots will be opened up for the LCQ Tournament. The overall prize pool for the entire Tour will total to $90,000 or the equivalent of 10 Million Yen. The event schedule is as follows:

  • The MIXUP – April 2oth-21st, Lyon, France (Offline DOA6WC Point Match) $5,000 pot bonus
  • KVO X TSB 2019 – May 2nd, Osaka, Japan (Offline DOA6WC Point Match) $5,000 pot bonus

Joker’s character model potentially revealed through weekly ad for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighters Pass

Could the Persona 5 fighter be coming this week, or was it simply a corporate communication mixup?

Electronics retailer, Best Buy, might have released the first look at the character render for upcoming DLC fighter, Joker, for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through its weekly ad highlighting the Fighters Pass.

The design is definitely a nice adaptation of the stylish RPG character. If this truly is Joker’s render for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’ll only look better in motion. Those looking for more details on Joker are out of luck, however, as following the link takes you to the store page for the Fighters Pass with no additional information. Check out the full ad for yourself below.

Super Smash Bros Joker Render Best Buy Ad

Joker is set to release sometime before the end of April as the first Challenger Pack of the Fighters Pass which is available for $24.99. All Challenger packs are also sold individually for $5.99. Each Challenger Pack includes one DLC fighter, one stage, and additional music tracks.

All packs are set to release by February 2020. Those who purchase the Fighters Pass, on top of gaining access to each of the five Challenger Packs, will also receive a Mii Swordfighter costume based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Dead Or Alive 6 Version 1.03a is live; Happy Wedding Volume 2 DLC costumes and Phase 4 now available

With online lobbies soon to follow

Dead or Alive 6‘s Version 1.03a, released today, which contains more balance changes and bug fixes for a number of fighters and updates to Quest Mode’s costume part allocation. Quest Mode will now roll over unlocked costume parts to new outfits and this works retroactively as well. Log in to receive any missed out costume parts from previously completed quests!

Pre-Order DLC character Phase-4 is finally available for individual purchase and the Happy Wedding Volume 2 set of costumes have also been released. This set contains 13 more wedding-themed attires for Ayane, Brad Wong, Christie, Eliot, Helena Douglas, Diego, Honoka, La Mariposa, Mila, Phase-4, Rig, Tina Armstrong, and Zack. You can see the official notes pertaining to the update here.

Sadly, this upcoming update will not include Online Player Match Lobbies. While Team NINJA initially promised to release them before the end of March, they have now been delayed until sometime in April, as part of Version 1.03b.

Earlier this month, Dead Or Alive 6 received its Version 1.02 update, which addressed the much-complained-about grind of unlocking Costume Parts at random, as you will now only receive parts towards the character you are currently using,  as well as the release of the first part of the Season Pass 1 content, the Happy Wedding Volume 1 DLC Costumes.

The update also included balance changes for Zack, Tina, Jann Lee, Ryu Hayabusa, Kasumi, Kokoro, Hayate, LeiFang, La Mariposa, Christie, Brad Wong, Hitomi, Mila, Marie Rose, Nyotengu, Cyborg Raidou, Honoka, Phase-4 and NiCO, which you can find in PDF form at the following link.

The first Happy Wedding set includes 13 new costumes that see Kasumi, Kokoro, LeiFang, Marie Rose, NiCO, Nyotengu, Hitomi, Cyborg Raidou, Ryu Hayabusa, Bass, Bayman, Hayate, and Jann Lee, don their finest wedding dresses and tuxedos for a classier take on Fighting Entertainment.

Both sets can be purchased as part of the Season 1 Pass for $92.99. The Season Pass also includes Bonus Costumes for Nyotengu and NiCO, the New Costume Set Volume 1 in April, which consists of 13 new outfits, the New Costume Set Volume 2 in May, which will bring 13 additional new attires.

Finally, two Guest Characters from SNK’s The King of Fighters XIV will join the battle, including the returning Mai Shiranui and one other fighter that has yet to be revealed. Season Pass holders will receive both the characters and their Debut Costumes Sets, which will contain 5 outfits each. Both characters and their costume sets are scheduled to release in June.

Be on the lookout for more news about the long-awaited online lobbies here at SRK!

SoulCalibur VI Version 1.30 patch notes released; Amy Sorel now available for purchase

The “Winter Rose” returns to the Stage of History!

Last Monday, Bandai Namco Entertainment released the latest patch for SoulCalibur VI, upgrading the game to Version 1.30. This patch included balance adjustments for all 22 characters, in addition to some notable system changes. Core mechanics like Reversal Edge, Grapple Breaks, 8 Way Run, Guard and Reverse Impacts, and Battle Camera Angles were all affected. The Sunken Dessert Ruins and Master Swordsman’s Cave: Azure Horizon stages were also increased in size in an effort to reduce the frequency of Ring Outs on them.

As a result of these adjustments, characters such as Siegfried and Nightmare, who had the Ring Out capabilities of some of their throws removed, have had the property restored. This does come at the cost of an increased Grapple Break window, which has been universally applied to all throws in the game. This necessitates that Taki is given a second Grapple Break command, now that they are easier to perform. That way you do not lose too much of her aggressive pressure advantage following a successful throw.

In comparison to the previous two balance patches, Version 1.10 and 1.11, the character-specific changes are on the lighter side. Each of the warriors receives minor buffs, with very few nerfs, in order to improve their individual performances in battle. This brings the characters closer in line with the battle philosophies that Project Soul intended them to portray. There were also several quality-of-life changes made to the game itself, such as finally adding the ability for players to configure their buttons at the character select screen.

Preparations were also made for the release of the game’s third DLC character, returning veteran Amy Sorel, the adopted daughter of Raphael, also known as the “Winter Rose”. Amy was made available for download yesterday, as the second of the three characters contained in the title’s Season Pass, coming bundled with her own Soul Chronicle story as well as adding her Creation Parts to Create-A-Soul. She also received her SoulCalibur IV attire as an alternate costume.

You can see the full notes with developer explanations at the following link and can catch Amy’s reveal trailer from Evo Japan below, for those who might have missed it.

We also have some comments on the new character from SCVI’s Battle Director from an interview with 4Gamer, which have been translated by Avoiding The Puddle, which explains her new “Abandonment Level” mechanic:

“Brought back from SoulCalibur IV, Amy returns as a Rapier wielder having learnt the art of fencing under Raphael. As a fighter, she has a natural talent for ‘reading’ the enemies movements during the battle.

While she has short range and her attack power is on the low side, she can perform many extremely fast techniques to match the opponent’s brute strength in an up-close battle.

While maintaining many of her moves from the previous SOULCALIBURs, SoulCalibur VI adds new actions where she throws roses at the opponent. Even if you have played Amy in the previous games, there are new things to try out this time around. Her unique component in SoulCalibur VI is that she has certain abilities in her movelist that raise an “Abandonment Level” (見切りレベル). Over the course of a match, you can gradually build this up to later unleash a very powerful attack.

As a character, Amy is recommended for players that prefer a more strategic approach to their gameplan that lays their ‘cards’ out early and then over time, build-ups and wins with a ‘strong card’ finish to secure the victory.”

Amy is available as part of the Season Pass for $29.99, which also includes the already-released Tira (as a bonus), 2B, and the Character Creation Pack A. The season pass also includes a yet-to-be-revealed fourth character and Character Creation Pack B. Amy can also be purchased individually for $5.99.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Version 04.030 patch notes released; “Mike-Like” Balrog costume returns

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition has wrapped up its latest round of server maintenance, and the Version 04.030 update has been applied. As of now the recently-announced Field of Fate stage is now available in the in-game Shop for either 40,000 Fight Money or $1.99. Additionally, Balrog’s “Mike-Like” Costume, which sees him don the attire of Mike from the original Street Fighter game, has returned to Menat’s Fighting Chance until May 25th, for those who weren’t able to receive the fortune from the soothsayer the first time around. Finally, some battle-related bug fixes have been applied to Karin Kanzuki, Rashid, Blanka, Ed, and G, the most notable of which is increasing the damage on the “Master of the Turbulent Wind’s” Dash Spinning Mixers, which had been unintentionally reduced during the initial Season 4 balance update, making the UAE fighter ever stronger. You can see the full list below.

3/26 Update Info (Ver. 04.030)

Following server maintenance on March 26, 2019, Street Fighter V has been updated to Ver. 04.030.

• DLC
— Stages
Field of Fate

• Fighting Chance
— Get Balrog’s “Mike-like” Additional Costume through “Lookalike” now available again in Fighting Chance.

• Battle Related Bug Fixes
— Karin
Fixed a bug where, after Karin gets hit with M. Bison’s V-Trigger II move Psycho Charge, if Karin successfully lands her backwards throw Arakuma Inashi and M. Bison performs recovery, the Psycho Charge status would not be removed.

— Rashid
As of Ver. 4.000, the damage for Dash Spinning Mixer was lower than intended. The damage has been restored to the values before Ver. 4.000.

— Ed
When hitting Psycho Snatcher – Air (non-hold version) against an airborne opponent who is relatively low in the air, the 2nd hit would not connect regardless of if the 1st hit connected. To fix this issue, the hitbox for the 2nd hit has been expanded in the downward direction, which helps to alleviate the situation.

— Blanka
Fixed a bug where, during the hit stun for certain attacks, Blanka’s horizontal hurtboxes would become larger than intended. The hurtboxes have been fixed to be the normal size for the corresponding motion.

— G
Fixed a bug where if G performed his V-Trigger II move G Rage, but if the move’s armor properties absorb a projectile attack at the same time as the throw becomes active, G would not be able to throw the opponent character.

We hope you continue to enjoy playing Street Fighter V.

A V2 skin for the Green Ranger is also available as a pre-order bonus. The Battle For The Grid Twitter account has also announced the game’s release dates, which vary by region and platform.

Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players will be the first to receive the game this Tuesday, March 26th, while PlayStation 4 players in Europe will get their hands on later next week on Thursday, March 28th. Unfortunately, PlayStation 4 users in the U.S. will have to endure the longest wait, as the game won’t be available until Tuesday, April 2nd.

Embrace death! New Samurai Shodown trailer and gameplay footage from PAX East 2019

SNK’s return to sword-slashing combat looks very promising — and bloody as hell.

As promised, SNK delivered a much closer look at their upcoming return to the classic franchise Samurai Shodown at PAX East 2019, beginning with a fantastic new trailer:

And the window has narrowed for the game’s release: now we can expect the title to be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2019, offering just over a month (at least) before we see the game on the Evo 2019 main stage. It will arrive on Switch and PC sometime later.

As gorgeous as the game is looking in the trailer, the gameplay is where it counts — and multiple sources are starting to provide video of exactly that. Here is 12 minutes of gameplay from IGN:

We can see that the game’s spirit seems to be intact: careful neutral game is required because of huge punishes on mistakes and whiffs. Here’s some more from LI Joe:

Or, how about a whopping 44 minutes of gameplay from Gematsu…?

The game is set very early in the franchise timeline, will have 16 fighters in the roster at launch (including three newcomers) and will feature an A.I. training system. From the press release:

Once again set in the late 18th century, after the events of Samurai Shodown V and prior to the events of the original game, Samurai Shodown will see the return of thirteen classic characters, including Haohmaru, Earthquake and Galford, who will be joined by three brand new characters to the series. Additional characters will also be available via post-launch DLC.

Developed in-house at SNK by the same team that brought us King of Fighters XIV, Samurai Shodown features a host of modes, such as Story, Practice, Online Battle and multiple offline battle modes. The new game will also debut an innovative new asynchronous online mode called “Dojo” that uses deep machine learning to create a CPU-avatar that learns from players’ actions during offline modes and creates a Ghost AI character. Players will be able to upload their Ghost to the leaderboards and also download Ghost data from other players. Players can take on Ghosts in 1v1 battle, or take on the Ironman Challenge and attempt to take down up to 100 ghosts in one go.

The game will be published in North America and Europe by the Los Angeles-based Athlon Games. We’re definitely looking forward to “embracing death” this summer!
